ABSTRACT

Rapid prototyping is the name given to a host of related technologies that are
used to fabricate physical objects directly from Computer-Aided Design
(CAD) data sources. These methods are generally similar to each other in that
they add and bond materials in layer wise-fashion to form objects. These "three
dimensional printers" allow designers to quickly create prototypes of their
designs, rather than just two-dimensional pictures.

Such models have numerous uses. They make excellent image aids for
communicating thoughts with co-workers. In addition, prototypes can be used
for design testing.

Through this work it is aimed in practically fabricating a component having

different design features such as gear cutting, step turning, left hand and right
hand thread cutting, taper turning, half round groove, key way. By fused
deposition modeling one of the most employed technique in rapid prototyping
due to its more flexible advantages over the other processes and also by
conventional modeling

After fabrication of component by two methods the process parameters such as

surface roughness, build time, build volume, support material, of the prototype
model and also the manufacturing time, percentage material wastage, surface
roughness are to be evaluated and results were plotted down for better
presentation of the processes
