 What Is An Operating System?

An operating system is software that is used to communicate with the hardware like keyboard,
mouse, monitor, webcam etc and allows other programs to run. It is comprised of system
software and files your computer needs to boot up and function. Every desktop computer, tablet,
and smart-phone includes an operating system that provides basic functionality for the device.
Common operating systems include Windows, Mac-OS X, and Linux. While each Operating
system is different, it provides a graphical user interface (GUI), which includes the ability to
manage files and folders. GUI also allows to install and run programs written for the operating
system. While Windows and Linux can be installed on standard PC hardware, Mac OS X can
only run on Macintosh computers. Therefore, the hardware you choose affects what operating
system one can run.

Mobile devices, such as tablets and smart-

phones also include operating systems that provide a
GUI and can run applications. Common mobile
Operating systems include Android, iOperating
systems, and Windows Phone. These Operating
systems are developed specifically for portable
devices and therefore are designed around touch
screen input. While early mobile operating systems
lacked many features found in desktop Operating
systems, they now include advanced capabilities,
such as the ability to run multiple apps at once.

An Operating System is a computer program that

manages the resources of a computer. It accepts
keyboard or mouse inputs from users and displays the results of the actions and allows the user
to run applications, or communicate with other computers via networked connections.

Since several manufacturers make Android-based phones, it is not always easy to tell if a phone
is running the Android operating system. If you are unsure what operating system a phone uses,
you can often find the system information by selecting "About" in the Settings menu. The name
"Android" comes from the term android, which refers to a robot designed to look and act like a
