Home Science PBI Project

Science is all around us. Its a spider trapping a fly in its web, its growing a
garden in your back yard, its the summer thunderstorm that rolls through every day.
Science is the cookies baking in the oven, cleaning the dirty dishes in the sink, and
charging your iPhone and laptop.
Over the course this unit, we will be covering the Nature of Science. Specifically,
experimental design, variables, evaluating scientific information, measurement and
scientific tools, and scientific theories and laws. Each of these topics will assist you in
completing this units project.
Directions:
Your task is to observe something at home that can be scientifically tested.
o Develop a testable hypothesis.
Design an experiment to test this hypothesis.
Create an oral presentation about your experiment
o The method of presentation is up to you, but it must last 5 minutes.
Examples include a powerpoint, poster, prezi, etc
The presentation must include the following:
o Observation
o Hypothesis
o Materials
o Methods (Procedures)
o Results (Presented in a table and a graph)
