In many applications, thermoplastic materials are not the ideal material for the job.

They either are


not strong enough or they dont possess the dimensional stability required. Through by adding
fillers in polymers, we can increase the dimensional stability and stiffness of the material. Also,
these are used to change and improve the physical and mechanical properties of plastics.

I. Advantages of Fillers
Shrinkage will be less.
Increases stiffness
Increases in modulus of elasticity, compressive and flexural strength
Good thermal conductivity
Improves electrical properties and thermal and chemical resistance.
Reduces the material cost.
Lower temperature dependence of mechanical and physical properties.

II. Disadvantages of Fillers


Reduced impact strength
Directional warping
Increased abrasion
Reduces surface appearance quality
