PROCEDURE:

Part I: How do sediments settle in a lake bed?

1. Place the sediments in a transparent jar and fill it with enough water.
2. Tightly close the jar.
3. Gently shake the jar to loosen the sediments.
4. Stand the jar upright on one end, and then flip it over so that it stands up on the other
end.
5. Observe the water and the sediments for a few minutes. Repeat.
6. Draw the appearance of the sediments inside the jar. Label each section with the type
of sediment that is found at that level.
