Ms. Merceda Doris Gooding

706 Clopper Road, Apartment 32
Gaithersburg, MD 20878-1345

Dear Ms. Gooding,

To stay up-to-date with my
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the work in Congress
Affordable Care Act (ACA) and your concerns regarding the
American Health Care Act (AHCA). I am proud to stand with you in
opposing the repeal of the ACA and voted against the AHCA
when it passed the House by a vote of 217 to 213.

The ACA has expanded healthcare to over 20 million people, Join My E-Newsletter
including 400,000 Marylanders. Repealing the ACA could not only
put many at risk of losing coverage, but it could also impact the
millions who are protected from being denied coverage due to a
pre-existing condition, or who were charged more for healthcare
simply because they are women. Thanks to the ACA, people can
no longer lose coverage due to annual or lifetime limits and young
people can stay on their parents' plans longer.

The Republican legislation to repeal and replace the ACA is a bad

bill, plain and simple. The AHCA is one of the cruelest and most
poorly-constructed policy proposals I have ever seen. Somehow,
over the course of negotiations, this bill got even worse. The
latest version of the legislation allows states to opt-out of
protections for Americans with pre-existing conditions and to opt-
out of Essential Health Benefits protections, meaning that
insurance plans would no longer have to include basic provisions
such as ambulance services, emergency room visits, prescription
drugs and pediatric and maternity care. T he President and
Republican hardliners scrambled to jam through a bill that would
impact the lives of nearly every American with no oversight, no
transparency and no deliberation. This legislation is illogical,
immoral and wrong for the country.

I make it a point of principle to take every bill we see in this House

in good faith, whether it comes from a Republican or a Democrat
and give it a fair and impartial analysis. Sadly, from the very
beginning it was clear that this is a devastating bill for millions of
people, designed to quickly meet a partisan campaign agenda, not
actually help the country or reform our health care system in a
thoughtful way. Like all pieces of legislation, the Affordable Care
Act isnt perfect and we should work together diligently to fix it,
because for too many people quality and affordable health care is
still out of reach.

The American people have made it clear they dont want this bill,
they dont like this bill and theyre flat-out afraid of the
consequences this bill will bring. We must continue to speak out
against this disastrous legislation and do everything we can to
make sure it does not become law.

Again, thank you for sharing your opinion, and please do not
hesitate to contact me in the future. For periodic updates of my
