Science Experiment

Mela and MJ: Good morning teacher good morning classmates! Today, we
are going to do an experiment that shows how chemical change takes
place.

What is a chemical change?

A chemical change occurs as the result of a chemical

reaction. During a chemical reaction the atoms within a
substance are rearranged into different combinations.

Mela: Now that you know what chemical change is, lets proceed
with the experiment.

MJ: So we have here two ingredients, the baking soda and vinegar.
As you will notice, the baking soda is classified as solid and the
vinegar is classified as liquid.

Mela: We will put vinegar in this container. To be a little more

interesting, lets put color to this vinegar. On the other container,
we will put baking soda. Now, we are ready for the reaction. Now
MJ, can you do the honor?

MJ: Sure!! Classmates can you do a countdown? 76543

Mela: The vinegar and baking soda reacted when mixed and
formed bubbles which created carbon dioxide.

Mj: Now why do the baking soda and vinegar reacted to each
other?

Mj and Mela:

They react because baking soda is a base and vinegar is an acid

dissolved in water. When you mix an acid and a base in a solvent,
which in this case is the water, usually the acid transfers hydrogen to
the base to form a new compound. In this case, the new compound is
called carbonic acid, which then decomposes to water and carbon
dioxide gas.

MJ and Mela: We hoped that you liked our experiment!!

THANK YOU!
