Introduction
The real miracle is a man who can walk with God every day

Harold Klemp

Shalom! My name is Jennifer Cheong but family and friends call me Jenn.
Thank you for taking the time to download my very first eBook.

Let me start by asking you some questions. Have you ever suffered the
morning blues and think to yourself, When is the weekend coming? Or
have you ever gotten a call for a job interview and spent hours preparing
for it only to mess it up on the day with your nervousness? How about
feeling inadequate at in your job role because you dont have the necessary
skills? Or needing to hurry home but youre stuck in that awful traffic.
Finally, how about nursing that heartbreak over someone and wondering
when you will get back up on your feet?

I have good news for you! There is a solution to overcome all these
challenges everyone will face at one point or other. I guess youre
wondering, How will your eBook make my journey in life any different?
To answer your question, I would like to share with you a little about my
personal journey

2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

I come from a small family with two younger sisters. To everyone looking
in, its pretty much a normal childhood where my mom was a full-time
housewife and my dad worked long hours as a plumber to provide us with
a comfortable life. I grew up, graduated from university, found great jobs I
enjoyed, had great friends, met my wonderful husband later on and am
now a full-time leisurely housewife.

But you know, you may see all these outward things people show and
never know their difficult trials, their arduous journey, and their tears. My
family is a typical Chinese non-believer family where we had quite a few
idols at home. My mom went through extremely difficult times with
rejection not only from her own family but my dads, all through her life.
My sisters and I hated Chinese New Years as we would see her go through
the pain over and over again. I started resenting her for chasing after those
who dont care for her and lashing out at us the family who loves her.

When I was three, I was sexually molested by a neighbor. I cant really

remember much of what exactly happened, only that I was very frightened
and felt deeply ashamed. We moved away soon after that incident. I had a
difficult time making friends I could relate to since I was frequently moved
since kindergarten.

When I was 14, a classmate led me to Christ. The moment my parents

knew, I was chased out of my house with a cleaver knife. The good thing
was, I am extremely stubborn and refused to budge on renouncing Christ
to appease my parents. I started attending church with my classmate but
after we graduated from secondary school, I stopped. I tried looking for a
home church but just couldnt find one that fit.

8
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

Due to the stress and pressure in my last year of university, the doctor
started prescribing me medication for insomnia and anxiety issues. I also
started experiencing worrying health symptoms which I ignored. I then
started my first job after graduation and was considered a high-flier in the
company by the end of my first year there.

But I left the job after a year due to

depression from dealing with a painful
heartbreak, my dad struck down with a
near-fatal second stroke and my moms
doctor suspecting she had cancer. The
whole world just seemed to crash on me.

It was then a concerned friend brought me to my current church where

Gods love slowly healed my broken heart and mind. I continued going
and serving in my church. Soon, I was once again enjoying my life.
Through this period of my 20s, the Lord
taught me slowly.

I went for my very first trip to Israel when I

was 29 and met not only many precious
Kingdom friends but also my husband
during that trip. I wished it was a happily
ever after right here. Unfortunately, it was
not to be so.

9
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

When I was 30, the health symptoms I had been ignoring in my body for
over a decade, exploded. I became very sick and lost 22 pounds (10 kg)
within 2 weeks. The doctors were unable to diagnose me. I became even
worse after ingesting different drugs with severe side effects pumped into
me. My parents were frantic begging various doctors to find a solution to
save my life. Strangely, after a month of being bed-ridden thinking I was
going to die, I recovered.

Five months later, the debilitating symptoms

returned again. My hair started falling off. I threw up
whatever I ate. I was constantly in pain and hitting
the toilet. I was just exhausted. I refused to return to
the hospital for more tests and told my parents, Let
me die. My parents broke down and begged me on
their knees to go back to the hospital.

After much persuasion, I returned to the hospital. By then, my parents

have received the Lord and began praying for a doctor who could treat me.
I was finally given a diagnosis Crohns Disease. At the time of diagnosis,
there were only 200 patients suffering from Crohns in Singapore. It was
rare and pretty much unheard of here in Singapore.

I was given proper treatment and discharged. However, for the next eight
years, I had three more relapses and enjoyed a hospital stay almost every
year due to infections. I was finally advised to stop working during my last
relapse which became life-threatening. At that time, I had been so trodden
down with the physical and mental torture of the sickness, feeling robbed
of my youth and just wanted to give up and go home to the Lord.

It was during the most critical period on the hospital bed that I had one of
the most beautiful conversations with the Lord. It changed me and got me
wanting to live again.
10
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

I stopped working after the discharge and re-started some of my favorite

hobbies for a year. During this time, I realized I had been struggling all
along trying to reconcile all the negative events in my life with who God is
to me.

My husband kept encouraging me. He shared how he was so blessed by

some of the practical tips I had randomly told him at different stages of his
life about how to involve God in his life. I also finally stopped struggling
and realized this: life is life. Bad things happen. I dont know if theres a
reason or not and thats totally no point in thinking about the reason.
Theres always ups and downs, but God will always be there for you. And
if you let Him, He will rush in and turn them all around for you.

I discovered a lot of believers have this

disconnect from knowing God and His
Word versus applying Him to our daily
lives. In 2016, I decided to start a small
Bible study group, Hagah (which means
meditate in Hebrew), to grow with fellow
believers in applying the Bible into our everyday lives. Hagah now has
two active groups with a third one starting.

I wrote this eBook to compile some of the precious gems which I had
experienced and also benefitted people in my life when I shared with them.
They started to see God differently. They started to return His love. They
started to believe that He cares not just for the big things but every single
thing that you care about, even the silliest ones.

And Im sharing these with you, dear readers. I really believe that no
matter which stage of your life you are at, the mountains high or valleys
low or even just plain walking on normal grounds, letting God walk with
you is the best thing you can do. You will encounter His wonderful love
11
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

and change your life from glory to glory. Let Him in. He will lead you to
victory grounds!

In this eBook, I will be sharing my personal stories of how the Lord has
transformed me with each challenges. Each of these challenges took me a
long time to have that metanoia, the Greek word for repentance.
Metanoia means to change ones mind. We have certain pre-conceived
ideas or habits ingrained in us that make it hard to open our minds and
hearts to receiving freely. So I have included 60 practical wisdom actions at
the end of each chapter to help you with this. Use each chapters practical
wisdom actions weekly. Internalize and make them your daily habits
instead.

May you be blessed with an abundant supply of peace and success!

My Friend, My Lover
Dance with me
O lover of my soul
To the song of all songs
Romance me
O lover of my soul
To the song of all songs

Dance with me by Paul Wilbur

Lion of Judah album

Do you know there is someone

who loves and cares for
everything that goes on in your
life? Do you know you have a
friend who will never abandon
nor betray you? Hes called the
Friend of Sinners. Hes called
the Lover of your soul.

Many years ago in my early

20s, feeling lonely and set
adrift in one of many searches for somewhere to belong, I asked Jesus,
Will You be my Lover, Jesus? Will You woo me? The thing is many of us
have no problems knowing that Jesus is God. For the believers, we all
know we have eternal salvation purely because of His divine, perfect
finished work at the Cross. But how many of us really see Him in our daily,
mundane everyday lives as our Friend, our Lover?

How do you interact with your BFF or friends? You may call them on the
phone or hang out with them for coffee and chat about nothing and

13
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

everything with them. You may be hanging out at a mall, searching for the
best outfit for a date. Or you may be watching a sports game with your
buddies, cheering for your favorite team. Or you may offer a silent
presence to a grieving friend whos going through a loss.

How about your lover? How would you romance someone you are
attracted to and is starting a relationship with? Flowers, sweet kisses and
tender whispers? Excitedly talking and sharing to get to know each other
more, about what he or she likes, about how he or she spends their day,
daily phone calls if youre not meeting up for the day?

Do you do that with Jesus? Like I said earlier, Hes called the Lover of your
soul. Hes called the Friend of sinners. He is yours. He wants a relationship
with you. Build a two-way relationship with Him. Give to Him what you
would give your friends and your lover.

I practice it by waking up and saying, Hey morning Jesus! I may be

walking down the street heading to work and say, Jesus, Im giving You a
call right now to let You know Im thinking of You. I may pass by a tree
blossoming with beautiful bright pink flowers and say, Wow Jesus, are
those flowers for me? Theyre beautiful! I love them. Thank You! I may be
at lunch and tell Him, This chicken tastes delicious, Jesus. Youve got to
try it one day. I may be at work and grumble to Him, This task is really
getting to me, Jesus. Sometimes, I go to bed saying, I would really love it
if you wake me up with Your song in my heart, Jesus. At those times, I
would be waking and opening my eyes slowly in the morning with one of
my favorite songs about Him resounding inside me.

And when I go through a challenge, just like how you may call one of your
closest friends for a word of comfort or encouragement or simply a
shoulder to cry on, I go to Him the same way. You know, Jesus, I dont
know if I can go through this. Jesus, its been really tough and Im just so
tired. I imagine Him holding tightly to my hand saying, Im here, Jenn.
Dont give up.

14
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

If you cant see Him as your Lover yet, start by being His friend first. Start
talking to Him about the little things in your life, the big things in your life,
your dreams, and your hopes. Make Him your BFF. Talk to Him. Joke with
Him. Laugh with Him. Cry with Him. Go through every part of your daily
life with Him. Build your friendship with Him. Build your romance with
Him. I can share with you that its worth it and one of the most beautiful
and real relationship you can ever have.

4 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Build a two-way relationship with God.

2. Talk and share with God about your daily life and issues as you
would to your BFF.

3. See God as someone whos your boyfriend or girlfriend youre in the

season of courtship with. Ask Him to romance you.

4. Start looking around for His love gestures to you. He may surprise
you with a beautiful sunset or a blanket of diamonds in the velvet night
sky.

Youve Got Mail
Jesus loves me, this I know
For the Bible tells me so

Jesus Loves Me (Song)

Anna B. Warner, 1860

Why do you go to church? Some go because

its the duty of a Christian to go church. Some
go because their loved ones or friends force it
on them. Some go because they feel guilty if
they dont. And some go because they feel if
they dont, God will punish them.

Well, even if those are bad reasons, Im still glad you chose to go. But Im
here to give you better reasons to go. Imagine this: Theres no Internet or
phone. You are in a long-distance relationship. You are illiterate. Knowing
this, your lover has planned, before leaving, to get someone to read for you
the letters hes going to send to you. So every Sunday, when the letter
comes, you will need to meet the friend who is going to read the letter to
you. But if you stop going to this friend, over time, you will lose touch with
your lover. The feeling you have for your lover will fade away even though
your lover is still in love with you and has never stopped ardently writing
to you.

That lover is God. Every Sunday, He appoints His steward to read about
His love, His provision and His plans of good for you. Over the course of
the week, you may have disappointments and get bogged down by the
daily issues life inevitably brings. And every Sunday, the Lord washes
16
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

your mind and your soul with His love letters. The love letters recharge
you for the week. It prepares you for the week ahead till your next letter. It
boosts your confidence and trust in your Lover, knowing He hasnt
forgotten you. He may even provide a Word of wisdom that you may need
in the coming days.

So beloved, forget all the reasons you previously had of why you should go
to church. Instead, every Sunday morning, as you wake up, get excited to
receive your love letter sent direct from Heaven!

3 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Every Saturday night, even though youre not feeling it, tell someone
you know, Ooh Im so excited about tomorrow. Ive got a hot date
with Jesus!

2. There are mornings you wake up on a Sunday and just want to

snuggle back into bed. What should you do? Imagine if its a hot guy
(for the girls) and a gorgeous lady (for the guys) waiting for you to turn
up for your date, would you drag yourself out of bed? Or would you
stand your date up? Jesus is so much more than that hot guy or
gorgeous girl. So while still on the bed struggling to get up, say out
loud, Im looking forward to a date with you today, Jesus!

3. I found that when I make a firm decision that I want to hear Gods
love letter, I can pay better attention in church. Why? Because you
already have the correct mindset and attitude and you will be alert to
grab any precious gems from your Heavenly Lover.

Starting the Day
With a Victory Jump
Im whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy;
Im singing your song, High God.
The day my enemies turned tail and ran,
they stumbled on you and fell and their faces.
You took over and set everything right;
when I needed you, you were there, taking charge.

Psalm 9:2-5 (MSG)

Sometimes I wake up feeling great. Those days are mostly the weekends or
the holidays! Woohoo! Most times, it can be very blah especially if I
know the day is going to be filled with some unpleasant or boring tasks.

It occurred to me one day if I wanted how I started my day for the rest of
my life to be dictated by my feelings, which are mostly based on external
circumstances well beyond my control. So I made a decision.

That very next morning, I woke up, blasted my

favorite Christian songs on my stereo and got
ready to head out to work. I said my good
morning to the Lord, stepped out of the house
and did what I called a victory skip!

Yes, in my formal business suit, heels and

outside my house, I jumped up with both knees
bent and hands up in the air, shouting in my
head, Woohoo, another awesome day with
Jesus! So if people see me, they would only see

18
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

this crazy woman, jumping up suddenly but silently. I was trying not to
wake up the neighbors. But at the point of writing this, it did occur to me
very belatedly maybe I should have done my victory skip inside my home
and not scare the neighbors who did see me. Haha! But thats okay.

I always hear this, Actively seek the Lord. The Merriam-Webster

dictionary says that the word active means to be characterized by action
rather than by contemplation or speculation or to be producing and
involving action or movement. Yes, I understand that one way of doing
that is to start reading the Bible, praying, and so on. And all that is great!

What I wanted was to look for a simple, practical way to inject the Lord
into how I start my day. Since I love music, blasting my favorite Christian
song was bound to wake my mind up energetically as I go through my
routine prep to get ready to head out for work. It also gives me a positive
attitude towards my day. Who can be negative while dancing and shaking
to their favorite song?

And as I take my first step out of the house to face what the world brings, I
want to start that step with a victory jump. The moment I leap up, its like
the heavy bags of blah drop off me. The moment I shake my hands up in
the sky, the shackles of worry release me. It may be for a moment but that
moment was where I opened the door and let God in to take charge of my
day. It is the moment I actively choose with my body and mind to start my
day with victory in Him.

19
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

3 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Do a little victory jump when you get out of bed in the morning. If its
too early for you, do it the moment youre ready to leave your house to
face the day.

2. Whistle, sing a happy Christian tune or play your favorite praise song
while you dress for the day.

3. If you remember a joke or something funny, share it with Jesus. Enjoy

a morning laugh together with Him.

Traffic Woes

God meets daily needs daily. Not weekly or annually.

He will give you what you need when it is needed.

Max Lucado

Traffic. Transportation. Now thats a

universal frustration everyone is sure
to have faced in their daily lives in a
busy city. Ever headed out late,
rushing to the bus stop, just to see the
tailgate lights of your bus going off?
Ever tried to grab a cab with a million
other people waiting around
impatiently? Ever been in a car and the
traffic jam youre in seem to be as thick
and sticky as a big bottled jar of fruit
jam? Or just minding your own business driving and the other cars just
seem to be on a vicious vendetta to cut you off. Woah the list of traffic
woes are indeed endless.

So what do I do? I tell my God all about it. When I have to take a bus or cab
and am running late, I tell Him, Lord, Im really late. I know its my fault
for being lazy and slow. Please let the bus (or cab) be right there for me
when I get there. And you know what? The bus will come the moment my
feet hits the bus stop.

Or I tell Him, Lord, theres like a gazillion folks in this queue waiting for a
cab. Im really, really tired and just want to go home right now. Please,
send a cab just for me. And again, you know what? A cab will roll up the

21
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

road, winding down its windows, the driver shouting out, Only taking
passengers heading to Chinatown! And for some reason, there will be no
other folks heading to that area. So I get to go past all of them straight into
the cab. It feels like trying to get into a high class establishment with a
humongous long queue, only to be singled out as the VIP and going
straight in.

Or when in a traffic jam, turn up the music and start singing along about
the goodness of our Lord. It beats staring at the cars and trying to laser
beam them off with the single-minded power of your eyes. And if music is
not your kind of thing, give a call to someone you love but have not been
spending as much time with and check in with them (please, do use a
hands-free cellphone or a wireless headset to make the call).

And if no one is available to talk, how about just taking that time to pray
for someone you know who needs a prayer? And hey, if music, talking to a
loved one, praying still doesnt work for you, the best thing to do is talk to
your God, Hey Jesus, this traffic jam totally sucks. I really need to be on
the way and not be stuck in this jam. Please, help me out, Lord. You may
find our God who specializes in breakthroughs and miracles can actually
clear a path for you.

Finally, for drivers who are frustrated by other non-competent drivers, tell
the Lord, That driver really made me mad, Lord. Please, transform that
driver so that he will not be a reckless harm to others. And if it really isnt
a day you could handle any provocation on the roads, say, Lord, today
has been a tough day. Please, clear the way for me. Go before me and make
sure there are no other drivers there that will upset me.

I have a health condition that makes it really crucial I get home in time
whenever an attack hits. Sometimes the attack happens right in the middle
of traffic, be it in a car (as a passenger) or during a walk back home and
encountering several traffic lights. Many times with cold sweat breaking
out, I will just cry out softly to the Lord, Please, make sure all the lights
are green for me to get home in time, Lord. Please, make sure no traffic

22
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

hinders my route back home, Lord. And every single time, He is faithful
to make sure the traffic is smooth.

I have learned He is a God who cares for even how you move from place to
place. Isnt He awesome?

4 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Ask God for your bus or cab to be where you are at the right time.
Nothing is too silly to ask from Him.

2. Traffic Jams: Use the time to have a chat with God. Ask Him to clear
the roads for you or make the route to your destination smooth.

3. Instead of fuming at inconsiderate drivers, pray for them. You want

the roads to be safe for other drivers and pedestrians who may
encounter them too.

4. Always pray for protection every morning before you leave the house.
Ask the Lord to put you at the right place, at the right time.

5. When you find yourself next in one of those traffic woes above, trust
that its because Hes protecting you on the road.

6
Open Doors, Closed Doors
When one door closes, another opens;
But we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door
that we do not see the one which has opened for us.

Alexander Graham Bell

I first learned the concept of open doors, closed

doors from my church pastor. When I first
applied it in my life, I did not do it willingly.
But since then, I have applied it to every aspect
of my life where possible.

The first time I applied this was with regards to someone I was attracted to
and hoped for a relationship. I remember going for a few dates and was
starting to develop deeper feelings. But one day, I sat down and prayed,
Lord, I really dont want to pray this and You know it. But I dont want
more heartache. If this guy is not good for me, close the door tightly.
Remove him from my life. But if he is good for me, open the door for the
relationship to grow.

Within the week, the person was out of my life. I was shocked, to be
honest. At the same time, I knew the Lord has my best interests. The
moment I gave Him permission, He came in and removed the bad
influences away from my life.

You have to understand God doesnt take pleasure in taking things away
from you just for the kick of it. Understand this: His heart is for your
welfare. Indeed, if something will possibly harm you, He will happily
remove it the moment you give Him permission to intervene. But if its
good for you, He will bless you with it. I pray the same prayer for all job

24
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

opportunities offered to me as well as any new activities I want to engage

in my life.

Let me share with you a funny incident. I remember when I first took up
scuba-diving, I did not know how to swim. After the course, I was totally
crap in controlling my buoyancy in the water. Worse, I was unconsciously
hyperventilating underwater every single dive. Where people would have
an hours worth of air, I used it up in 30 minutes while still at least 65 feet
(20 meters) underwater. Yes, I know Its dangerous, reckless and where
was my brain?

After my certification, in one of my early dives, something dangerous

happened. Once again, I ran out of air while fighting some currents. I
signaled to someone nearby as I couldnt find my dive buddy. The persons
eyes nearly bugged out of his diving mask when he saw my air level was at
zero. Whilst calmly exchanging air hose with the person (since I had ample
experience with zero air by then), my weight belt suddenly loosened. I
started to shoot upwards uncontrollably. The belt disengaged totally and
nearly hit some unknowing divers below. I saw the panicked eyes of the
diver who was aiding me with the air. He tried to grab hold of me, to no
avail.

I shot up like a rocket to the surface of the water. Now please understand,
the whole thing was extremely dangerous. I am in no way thinking
anything about this is funny. I not only endangered myself but divers who
may be badly hit on the head with the weights on the belt. Praise God for
protecting everyone though.

Praise the Lord that other than severely blocked ears, I did not suffer any
major repercussions. I was forbidden to dive for the rest of the day. The
whole incident shook me up badly and I was unsure if I should continue
diving ever again since I obviously suck at it.

The next day (day two of our trip), which happened to be on a Good Friday
holiday, I stood at the door of my room sharing my indecision with my
dive buddy. One of my ears was still somewhat blocked and I was scared.

25
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

My friend asked me to pray. So I prayed that if continuing to scuba-dive is

an open door, the Lord should show me a strong sign. If not, He should
close the door for me. We then walked to the dive centre. It was early with
no one around. When we reached, we just stared in stunned silence at the
notice board. My friend turned to me and asked, Is that a good enough
sign for you? I just nodded dumbly.

So what was on the notice board? We were actually a group of eight to ten
friends diving in this particular trip. On the first day, we were all grouped
together and indicated on the notice board under a particular dive master.
But for some divine reason, only my friend and I were removed from our
group and placed with another two divers and a new dive master.

And on that board on Good Friday, the names of the divers in this new
group were: (1) Christ, (2) Abraham, (3) Jessie, (4) Jenn. God sure has a
great sense of humor! After that incident, I grew to love scuba-diving. The
dive master that was placed with my new group was extremely patient and
taught me to control my buoyancy better. I also learned how to swim and
tread water after that incident. More importantly, I asked the Lord every
single time to be my dive buddy and to reveal His beautiful, glorious sea
creatures to me.

So dont be afraid to ask the Lord to open doors that will benefit you and
close them if they will harm you. It can save a lot of hurt and pain when He
closes that door. Or it can show you a brand new, wondrous world when
He opens it.

4 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Be it be a new job, a new person in your life, purchasing a new house

or any kind of decisions in your life, ask the Lord to open and close
doors for you.

2. Trust Him and let go. Be prepared to turn away swiftly if the door is
closed. Be prepared to be bold and courageous to walk in if the door is
open.

3. You can only trust someone when you know his or her heart for you.
So start listening and reading love-filled, joy-filled, hope-filled and
peace-filled sermons and books. That will lead you to His heart plans for
you.

4. If you have asked the Lord and nothing is happening, its probably a
closed door. Remember the Lord is FOR you, NOT against you. If
opening that door may bring you more heartache, health challenges or
hinder your walk with Him, no matter how much your want and desire
it, He will not open that door. So move on.

Job Interview
Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged,
For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV)

Job interviews can be daunting not

knowing what they will be asking, what
they think of you, whether you will screw it
up by being a clumsy fool. And its even
worse if you really need the job or its the
job of your dreams and you really, really,
really dont want to be a clown at the
interview.

So you stay up all night to prepare for it. Here you are, preparing model
answers to potential questions, reading through the companys profile,
history, mission and every other single thing you can find. Im not saying
you shouldnt do this. I do agree that if preparation boosts your confidence,
go for it. I still do some amount of prep work for any interview but not so
much that it stresses me out and gets me all wired up in the wrong way
before the interview.

Im just sharing an easier way. I used to be the same nervous wreck going
for job interviews. Finally understanding about Gods supernatural, divine
favor helped me to breakthrough on this. I have formed an opinion that if
His favor is on me, the recruiters will like me more than any other
candidates they interview, even the more qualified ones.

28
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

I started praying, Lord, cover me with Your divine favor. You are a God
who gives good choices. If this job is good for me, give it to me as a choice.
Let the interviewers love me. I may not have the experience, the
qualifications but because Your presence is here and Your wisdom is in me,
they will want me in their company.

One day, I got a call to go for an interview. During the five-member panel
interview, I was taken aback when I was asked a question I had absolutely
no answer to. I made a quick decision to honor the Lord there and then by
replying honestly, I dont know the answer to it. They were taken aback
and asked, Even though you are a graduate of this field and you should
know this? I said, Yes. I regret to inform you that I am not able to answer
it.

You see, I dont want to lie, cheat or give a bunch of bull to get the job. I
feel thats not honoring God. I know He will give me a job. I dont have to
try to get it. He will bless me. And if I know He will give it to me, then I
dont have to be dishonest to get it.

When I left the premises, I was sure that the job was lost to me. I was
scheduled to go for another interview with another company the next day
and this time, I added in my prayer, Lord, please dont let them ask me
anything I dont know. Instead, let the interview be an easy and enjoyable
session.

The interview the next day was a drastic difference. When I arrived at the
premises, the Head of Department, who was interviewing me, brought me
to Starbucks and with a coffee, started casually chatting with me. We
talked a little on my previous work experience and what the role entailed.
But most of the time, we talked about scuba-diving which was a passion of
mine. It was one of the most enjoyable interviews Ive ever had.

The amazing thing was how good our Daddy God is. I got immediate
offers for both jobs with great pay packages and benefits! So start letting
God take charge of your interviews. You may end up enjoying your
interviews instead of dreading them.

5 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Dont be shy to ask the Lord, Dont let them ask me anything I dont
know. Let Him address any fears you have regarding your interview.

2. If theres a question you are unable to answer, always answer with

integrity and honesty where you honor the Lord with your actions.

3. If you feel you have trashed your chances at the interview, stop
feeling bad. If its an open door, God will open it no matter how bad you
think you were at the interview. And if its a closed door, give thanks
because He protected you from a job thats not good for you.

4. Dont fear asking the Lord for a great package and benefits. He is a
God who meets abundantly above and beyond what you can ask or
think. I do believe in putting a realistic remuneration to your potential
employer, if asked. But I have heard of many testimonies of people
receiving much more than their expected salary!

5. How about giving the Lord your ideal list of criteria for your new job?
I once listed down my ideal that the job will provide a great boss, great
pay and wonderful co-workers. I got all I asked then. But since I forgot
to include distance and job fulfillment, they were kind of missing in that
job. Since then, I learned my lesson. I just tell the Lord, You know me
best. I want the best job You can bless me with. I leave all the
requirements to You Lord. And He will love you back with a great job
with everything you need.

If Only Therere U-Turns In Life
No matter what we have done, no matter where we have been,
it is never too late to change direction, because God allows U-Turns!

Allison Gappa Bottke

God Allows U-Turns

Yes, if only life can have U-Turns. Maybe we can undo all of those wrong
decisions, not said that hurtful word to our loved one, and the list goes on.
Before we continue, I must admit I have not yet read God Allows U-Turns
but I really love what Allison G. Bottke wrote above.

While we were dating, my husband was going through a difficult season in

his career life. Before we met, he had given up a job to further his studies
overseas only to return home to lose a relationship, and being in need of
paying his study loan, he was still not able to find a job. He was very
discouraged and felt he had headed down a wrong
route.

His self-confidence had taken a real hit with what he

went through. While talking one day, I just said, You
know, God is a God of U-Turns. He can turn things
around for your good. You may feel you have gone
down the wrong route and made some bad decisions
or choices in life but He can give you a U-Turn without
short-changing you.

No, its not about you being sent back in time to re-start your life. Its about
Him taking you where you are right now and putting you in the place of
blessing that you feel you would be if you hadnt taken that route. So now,
if you had taken the wrong turn and ended up in Place B when all you

31
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

wanted was to be in Place A, God can not only take you to Place A. He can
bring you all the way to blessings beyond your dreams Place A+!

Better still though, U-Turns or not, just trust God that the destination your
journey is taking you will be a place of blessing the land of milk and
honey, your Promised Land.

3 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. If you feel you have missed an opportunity in your life because of

stupid decisions, ask Him for your U-Turn.

2. Remember God doesnt short-change you. If its a person or job

youve let go because of your decision, your U-Turn may not mean
getting back that person or job, but it means God can and will give you
someone or something even better than that person or job.

3. Gods U-Turn is not for you to keep looking back and staying in your
place of regret and negativity. Gods U-Turn is for you to believe you
can move forward to even better places because Hes the positive that
will always be with you.

Equipped for Success
And this is how you shall make it:
The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits,
and its height thirty cubits.

Genesis 5:15
New King James Bible

I want to ask you a question. Do you think God

knows how to use the computer? How about the SAP
software? Or say any of those business strategies or
techniques or leadership skills?

You see, I think a lot of us know and do think God is great. We all know He
is Creator. He created earth. He created us. He created the animals and the
plants and every other living thing. But that was like back in Genesis. Now
God is just busy at His throne dealing with other more important stuff like
lost souls, moral standards, dispensing spiritual gifts and you know, the
important heavenly stuff.

For me, thats limiting God. God transcends time. He is not a Creator just
in Genesis. He is Creator, full-stop. He is still giving creative ideas and
skills to us today. Colossians 1:17 (NKJV) says, And He is before all
things, and in Him all things consist.

He taught Noah how to build the ark. He taught Moses and his priests how
to lead and minister to people. He taught his kings how to win wars. He
taught his disciples how and where to spread the Gospel. And He is still
teaching today.

I believe God blessed man with creative ideas to invent new technology,
techniques and skills to improve lives. But man can take these ideas to use

33
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

them for corrupt and evil purposes. And I believe God not only keep up
with the times, He is ahead of time. We often describe some of the geniuses
as being ahead of their time, revolutionary, forward-thinkers to be able to
come up with such brilliant ideas. But the real brilliant one to me is God
where all these geniuses and Nobel Prize winners are just but a shadow of
true brilliance.

So having said that, how do I apply this in my life? Honestly, I discovered

it by divine chance. The first discovery was my first day of work at one of
my jobs. I had no prior experience or training for this role before. Plus, I am
terrible at anything remotely related to Math, which I thought this role
required. I was worried. But I loved this company so I took on the job. On
the morning of my first day, I panicked and told the Lord, Daddy God, I
seriously do not know what and how to do this job. Please, teach me and
guide me. And amazingly, He did.

I applied this to all my future jobs. The Lord always never failed to give me
ideas and skills to perform my tasks. I even managed to take on a triple
portfolio heading multiple roles in one company! When I was in marketing,
I always go to Him for ideas, such as, How should I pitch this ad, Lord?
Which medium should I use?

One time, I tried designing an ad myself. Having never had any graphic
design training before, I fumbled around till I hit a bottleneck. I searched
the Internet for ways to overcome that bottleneck and found nothing. I
went home frustrated. That night as I was dozing off to sleep, I suddenly
heard God say, Why dont you try doing this technique? The next
morning, I went back to work, tried the technique, resolved the issue and
finished the entire ad campaign.

This happened a few more times in different jobs. Each time, the Lord
patiently guided me and gave me ideas and solutions. I love it! Invite the
Lord to be your Trainer and Creative Director at work. He can definitely
equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need for your life,
removing your stress and frustration.

8 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Starting today, ask the Lord to teach you how to do your work even if
youre already considered a guru in the field.

2. Ask the Lord to give you ideas and solutions for your business.

3. Be open to flow and receive from the Lord. It may come in the form of
an idea in the middle of the night. It may be an open door to a seminar
or training opportunity where there are professionals to help you. It
may be the Lord guiding you on the Internet to the right website for a
solution. Do not limit the ways He can help you.

4. I know what youre thinking. Youre asking, How do you flow with
the Lord? Thats another big topic we cant cover in this eBook right
now but maybe in another one. ;) In short, listening to His Word and
involving Him in your daily actions will help you to flow better with
Him..

5. You can play Christian music in the background softly while youre
working. If it bothers your co-workers, love them by putting on
headsets.

6. Listen to a short love-filled sermon before you sleep.

7. Pray in the Spirit as you go about your work day. Talking to God
constantly to let Him know the areas you need His help. Do it softly.
You dont need to start shouting at your workplace. God can hear you
just fine even with the softest of whispers.

8. Have a little handwritten note placed on your work desk reminding

you of His love for you. I used to put up one or two of such notes in big
handwriting, saying things like, God is in charge today. Dont worry.

Rest!
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.

Psalm 3:5 (NKJV)

I love lists. Priority lists, action plans and schedules

of things to do all of which enable me to have a
clear mind for my day. Theres nothing wrong with
this. In fact, if youre someone who tends to be quite
disorganized or manages time poorly, this is a good
thing to do.

The problem is I get too stressed up and worried if I

see a long unchecked to-do list. I even get stressed after a vacation simply
because the laundry basket has overflowed. It felt like I would be stuck
doing laundry for the next year or so. In our world of deadlines, work
demands, people rushing all the time, we sometimes forget to stop and
take a deep breath.

I remember I was given a transcribing assignment by my church ministry

once. As I had a lot of other stuff waiting to be done, I decided that its
important to get the assignment done quickly. But I was exhausted as I did
not manage to sleep well the night before and had a busy work week. It
was a Sunday and I wanted to finish the assignment so I could focus my
mind back to work the next day.

36

But every single word I typed out was like a dentist trying to pull my tooth
out. Sitting there, typing word for word, it suddenly hit me what I was
typing. I had typed out what my pastor was saying right then, God said,
Rest. If you are tired, rest. Stop doing. Rest. I say again, rest. I blinked my
eyes as the sermon continued, Rest. Rest. Rest. Rest. It was funny. I
laughed and said, Okay Lord. I got it. Im going to go rest now. When I
woke up from my nap, I was refreshed and the transcribing task went so
much smoother.

Most times, we ignore the calls of our body telling us to rest. And we suffer
the consequences of it. Listen to the Lord. Rest. The demands from the
world never stop. But leave them to the Lord. He will take care of it.

One thing I did learn from my pastor was that if we give just a little bit of
time to the Lord every day, the rest of the day, God will multiply more
time for us to do our tasks. Everything will flow so much smoother for our
day. If quiet time in the morning isnt possible, start to involve His
presence into your tasks. So rest in the Lord even in the midst of your busy
schedule. You will find a significant difference to your day.

3 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Listen to the Holy Spirit in you, if He tells you to rest, flow with Him.
He knows whats happening in your body.

2. Spend a little time, maybe 5 to 10 minutes just reading a Bible verse

and reflecting on it. Or just spend a few minutes praying and giving
over your day to the Lord. He will bless the rest of your day.

3. If youre easily flustered or disorganized, having priority lists and

action plans help. Prepare them and ask the Lord for wisdom to know
what to do, when to do, how to do for all the items you have in your list.

Lost & Found
God, your God, will restore everything you lost...

Deuteronomy 30:3
The Message Bible

When I was 17, my wallet containing my social

security card (identity card) was stolen at a games
arcade centre. I was devastated. It was my first
experience losing something important. I went to the
police station to lodge a report but it was a lost
cause. The card cost me $100 to replace at that time
which was a hefty fee for a poor student from a low
income family.

I wasnt attending any church at that time, so I did not even know God can
restore. It was in my current church that I started hearing about restoration.
When I was 28, I decided to fly to Australia to visit some friends and also
head out to visit a church I had been dreaming of visiting.

My care group leader drove me to the airport. After I checked in, I

discovered my cell phone was missing. We searched everywhere from the
check-in counter, to the car park, and to my leaders car. Nothing. I was
devastated and could do nothing as it was time to board the flight.

On the plane ride, a sermon I heard that very morning from a visiting
pastor, Reverend Col Stringer, came to mind. He said all of us have pre-
programmed highways in our brain where Action A automatically lead to
Negative Reaction B. And every time Action A happens, Negative Reaction
B will be our programmed response. Thats how we were taught to react

39
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

since young. He said God wants us to forgo that ingrained highway.

Instead, God is going to build new highways in us a God Reaction
highway.

So in the plane heading to Australia for my vacation, I made a decision. I

told the Lord, Daddy God, I am really, really upset about losing my
phone. Im also worried about how I am going to contact my friends when
I reach the airport. But Im choosing right now not to let this loss affect the
start of a vacation with you. Im choosing right now not to let this loss rob
me of my dream of visiting a church I really like. Im choosing right now
for You to take charge of everything including restoring my phone back to
me and if not, blessing me with a better one.

On the second day of my trip, I received an email from my leader. In her

email, she expressed her amazement that she found my phone in her car.
Now there were three of us who hunted every single inch of that car and
found nothing that night. But the moment I gave it to the Lord, it appeared!

The following year, I returned to Australia for a conference. During the last
night of the conference, I lost a diamond cross pendant necklace which my
sister had given me. I was at the conference venue entrance filled to the
brim with a huge crowd. When the door opened, everyone surged in to
grab a good seat. By the time I discovered the necklace was missing, the
conference session was going to start. My friends and I rushed around
trying to search for it all the way from the entrance to our seats but we just
could not find it.

I was devastated. That necklace was a precious gift. It was from my sister
whom I felt I had treated badly when we were young and had grown apart
now that were adults. She had moved away from the country for work and
I would see or hear from her very rarely. And when she gave me the cross
pendant necklace, she was still not a believer then. So the necklace was
extremely precious, priceless and special to me.

As the speaker started speaking in the conference, I couldnt concentrate in

my distress and was just staring dishearteningly at the grey concrete floor.

40
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

You know something? No matter your state of mind, God can still reach in
to grab your attention in order to minister to you. The speakers words
started to pierce through my mind. She said, Its all about your attitude.
Its how you choose to respond. Choose to wallow in your negative
emotion. Or choose to believe God is good even then. Make the choice. Get
your attitude to the right place.

Taking in a deep breath, I told God, Lord, Im really devastated about this.
But right now, I choose You. Its my last night here at this conference. Im
not going to let it end with me feeling down like this. Its a huge loss to me
but Im letting it go. I choose You Lord.

When the session ended, the organizers rained colorful, glittery confetti
from the ceiling down on everyone. It was fun, awesome and cool! As I
was bending down to scoop some confetti, a sparkle caught my eye. In
disbelief, I knelt down and right there, among the brilliant, colorful confetti
scattered on the ground, was my necklace. I picked it up with tears in my
eyes, feeling so wonderfully loved and held it up silently to my friends.
Their eyes widened in shock and said, But there was no necklace on the
floor earlier I know After all, hadnt I been staring at that very same
floor for most of the conference session?

Youve got to get this: God is not a thief. He does not need to rob you. He
definitely does not get a kick making you lose your precious possessions.
You think He was laughing gleefully when I was devastated with the loss
of the necklace? You think He was standing there in solemn authority,
nodding His head, saying, Now she has learned her lesson.

Come on! I dont know what your perception of God is but I certainly did
not say a salvation prayer to a God like that. Bad things do happen in life.
Sometimes very, very, very bad things happen. And you know, dear
readers, I most definitely know all about it if you had read the introduction
of this book and I didnt even cover all of what I really went through there.

God is not like that. When I was really young, maybe five or six, I had a
childs understanding that everyone in my family worshipped other gods.

41
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

But whenever my mom brought me out and we were on a bus and passed
by a church, He called out to me. It was always a tender whisper, Child.
No one told me about Christianity. All I knew were the gods my parents
taught me. But I knew that building with the Cross was different. I knew
that voice that called out to me was different. The whisper was filled with
love. I would bow my head, close my eyes and say, Hi. When I was
much older and discovered there was a God called Jesus, my reply became,
Hi Jesus.

The God who called out was a loving God. A God who restores. A God
who blesses. A God who heals. A God who provides. A God who can be
everything and everyone youve ever wanted if you let Him.

Im not saying I have everything now. I know I am still on a journey to

discovering more of Him. But what is important is this: when you go
through your setbacks, when you lose that precious thing or person, where
do you want in life? As the conference speaker said, Its all about your
attitude. My choice? Theres nowhere else I want to be except in His
loving embrace in those setbacks, in those losses, in those defeats.

4 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. When you lose something important, ask God to restore the item back
to you or trust in Him for a greater blessing in place of the lost item.

2. The restoration can take form in either the return of original item or a
blessing where you are able to get an even better version of the item.

3. Dont limit God in how He restores.

4. And if the restoration doesnt happen, choose the right attitude: You
have God who is everything and you have Him for eternity!

Second Best
When we look to God as provider,
we are surrendering our independence
and trusting someone else to meet our needs,
over which we have no control.

Corallie Buchanan
Watch Out! Godly Women on the Loose

Have you ever felt that some requests you asked God for but because
its not coming, you settle? And you dont feel great because its not your
first choice? I used to think only the first choice is the best choice. Any
other choices were no good. But you know, your first best choice is
probably not Gods first best choice for you.

We need to change our perspectives in terms of our ideal wants and needs.
We need to focus our eyes and heart on God as the ultimate Provider for
not just current but future needs as well. If we truly believe that He is the
best Provider, wouldnt what He gives you be the best too? And let me
point out that God does not short-change you.

Now Im sure most of us have the ideal boy or girl we want to have as life
partners. He or she has got to have this or that And so on it goes with
your list of requirements. When I first met my husband, he didnt fit my
ideal list. We only started dating a year after we met. Hes an extremely
likeable guy but just not the ideal imaginary guy in my head.

43
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

So when God placed him in my place and opened

the door, I had two choices a choice to start a
relationship with the goal of marriage or keep it as
friends because he wasnt the ideal. I prayed about
it and feeling the peace of God, I entered into a
relationship with him. Why? Because I trust God to
give me the best.

Dont misunderstand and think it went, And they lived happily ever
after. Our relationship has had its fair share of struggles as any
relationships do. But Im telling you right now, God has indeed given me
the best.

During my challenging health journey, my husband, who was then my

boyfriend, stood steadfastly like a rock by me. Holding my hands and
calmly singing worship songs to comfort me when I was retching for hours
till midnight at the hospital. He is one of the kindest, most patient and
loving man I know. Hes always pointing my eyes back to Jesus when the
going gets tough. Hey, Im not merely waxing praises about him, you
know. Numerous friends have pointed out how blessed I am to have such a
wonderful man in my life.

So I have been asked, If I really need to start somewhere with a basic list,
what do you think we should look for in a life partner? And this is purely
my own opinion find someone who loves God, is kind, speaks Gods
love language to his or her family and friends, and someone who honors
God with his or her actions. Growing old with such a person is worth
envisioning.

God doesnt just give what you want now. He gives you what you need for
your whole life so that youll have happiness. So dont let your own idea of

44
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

best restrict what God can give you. You may have turned away from the
best thing that can ever happen in your life.

4 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Tell the Lord your desires and dreams.

2. He may give you something or someone that does not fit your current
idealistic vision. Dont throw it away simply because it doesnt look
good. Spend some time and you may discover hidden treasures.

3. God doesnt short-change you or gives sub-standard things to you.

Hes not like that. He always wants the best for you. That best may not
be the best to you now. But its the best for your whole future.

4. Find someone who loves God, who loves his or her family and friends
with Gods love and who honors God with his or her actions.

Submission of Love
Submission is not about authority and it is not obedience;
It is all about relationships of love and respect.

The Shack
William Paul Young

I am quite a vocal person with very strong

opinions. When I first came to my current
church and heard about submission in the
Bible, it was still a pretty vague concept to
me. I know we have to submit to God but
in reality, Im not too sure I was really
doing it. I know there were definitely areas which I had a more difficult
time letting go and submitting to what He wanted me to do. In the past, I
had no real desire to find out more about what submission means because
if I really do understand it, then I cant use ignorance as an excuse
anymore, right? Haha!

I only truly started understanding more about submission when my

husband and I were planning to get married and attended our churchs
pre-marriage seminar. See I guessed I couldnt grasp the concept of
submission to God very well. It was more like a theory to me. But now that
I have to practice submitting to my husband, I thought I had better find
out exactly what it means fast.

I mean between the two of us, hes definitely the more easy-going fellow
and doesnt really care if I wanted to watch a particular movie or go to a

46

particular restaurant when we were dating. But marriage is a whole new

different ball game. I simply could not imagine the two of us trying to buy
a house then he decides on one that I hate. Do we buy that hideous house
because I have to submit? Or hes going to make some major decisions for
us that I totally oppose, like move us to Timbaktu, and I have to submit?
Okay, Im exaggerating but you get the idea.

So our marriage was really the place where I learned all about biblical
submission. I found out that it is really about love and honor. You submit
because you trust your husband loves you. And because he loves you, he
will make the best decision for you. You submit because you love him and
want to honor him as the man you have chosen with your actions, clearly
saying, Im standing by us not just for you, not just for me, but us.

And the Bible says husbands to love their wives not love yourself, not
love the us that you both are. But just her. And when you love her, you
make the best decision for her future, not for yourself.

We had a pre-marriage counseling session in the church. I asked the lady

leader assigned to me, What if you know hes making a bad decision? Do
you still have to submit to that? Her reply was, Yes. But you know, as his
wife, you are his helper. Advice him about the wrong decision. Make
suggstions. But you must still submit to his decision. Why? Because that is
his journey to learn from these wrong decisions. To be honest, I really had
an extremely difficult time accepting that answer.

Isnt a waste of time and effort for your husband to make the wrong
journey if you already know its going to be so? But hey, Im reminded that
there are some lessons in life that we have to experience. Because no matter
what people tell us, we just could not make that connection in our mind. Of
course, itd really save you a great deal of time, effort and pain if we could

47
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

just be able to listen and think some stuff through before we stubbornly
wade into the murky waters.

However it turns out, the wonderful thing is if you actively involve Jesus in
your relationship, submission becomes easier and easier. As both of you
actively seek the Lords wisdom in all your decisions, the common ground
where both of you agree gets bigger and bigger. Its no longer about self-
centered plans but all about love plans from God. And as I slowly learn
that in practice with my husband, I started being able to submit to the Lord
more often with respect to my life.

2 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. If you know Gods heart, you will find it easier to submit to Him.

2. Always seek the Lords wisdom for any decisions you make as a
couple. Commit the decision to Him.

Achy, Breaky Heart
I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all;
But whatever I have placed in Gods hands, that I still possess.

Martin Luther

Anyone who has gone through heartbreak

from a bad breakup knows its one of the
worst emotional tortures one can go
through. Imagine how you could have
built a beautiful, intimate relationship with
someone and have your heart so callously
shattered and trampled on.

Youre now a victim of lies, betrayals, cruel words no one can take back,
rejection, and the death of a romance you once thought was super precious.
And now you end up with lacerations and scars no one can see in you.
Your tears flow out like a dripping tap that cant be turned off simply
because your heart hurts so bad. The vacuum of silent loneliness screams
its rock theme at you even in a big crowd.

Eating is a chore. Bathing is a chore. Talking is a chore. In fact, pretty much

anything and everything about life is a chore at that point. Your family and
friends go around in muffled whispers with concern for you. As months
passed, voices start to urge you, Move on. Forget that jerk. Get a grip and
snap out of it. Stop being so emotional and dramatic.

Then maybe you do start living life again and you hide the secret wounds
that have scabbed over. Sometimes, a chance encounter with that person
will tear the wounds to bleed afresh. You get angry with yourself for being
weak, for pining, for hoping that person will regret and come back.

49
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

Im here to tell you its okay to be yourself. Just like a case of severe food
poisoning will take weeks to recover, how much more a severe heart
wound? What I want to tell you is, dont go through that alone. Dont even
just go through it with just your friends and family who really care about
you so much. They cant heal your broken heart. Go through it with Jesus.
Hes the One who specializes in healing the brokenhearted.

Have you ever heard of the clich, Time heals? Its funny but that clich
was the beginning of my breakthrough in recovering from heartbreaks.
One time, my heart was broken just the night before and I was in the train
heading to work. The thought, Time heals, entered.

I started talking to Daddy God, I know myself, Lord. It will probably take
me a year to even dim the pain. The next thing I know, a picture of
something my pastor has shared before came to mind. He said that God
sees our lives, past, present and future, like a Disney parade from above.
God can see the beginning of the parade right to the end at one glance.

Strangely, that picture in my mind changed to God looking at a helicopter

view of my heartbreak recovery period of the whole year. Then He said, I
am Light. 1 John 1:5 (MSG) says, This, in essence, is the message we
heard from Christ and are passing on to you: God is light, pure light;
theres not a trace of darkness in him.

Do you know what the speed of light is? According to Einsteins theory of
special relativity, light travels 186,000 miles per second (299,792,457 meters
per second). Wow! Thats fast. Okay, its super, super, hypersonic fast.

So there and then, I asked the Lord, Lord, I dont want to suffer for a year
or however long it takes to move on. You are Light. You are in me. I am in
You. I am in Light. Compress time. Move me to the end of this pain.
Instead of a year, make it a week. No more tears over this person, Lord.

And for the first time in my life, I was able to bounce back within a week. It
didnt happen with any fireworks or drama. It was almost anti-climatic
even. The pain, heartache all simply vanished by the end of the week.

50
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

Why a week you ask? Why not simply get it over with then? You see, I sort
of instinctively knew that God will do it for me. And being the sentimental
me, I was trying to hold onto the painful memories just a little bit more.

A lot of times, its not that God wont help you move on. But its because
were holding so tightly to someone who has already left us. Let go. Put
your heart in His hands. He will never let you down.

5 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Ask God to compress your grieving period. Dont hold onto your
pain.

2. If you are easily swayed or affected by the presence of the other party,
ask God to remove the person from your life, at least until you are well
again.

3. Ask God to help you forgive and let go of the bitterness by filling up
your life with Gods sweetness either through Kingdom friends or
family who loves you.

4. Lift up an open palm. Look at your palm. Fill it up with all the good
and bad memories with the person into it. Fill it up with all the pain,
aches, anger or love you still feel for that person. (Use both palms if
necessary.) Clench your fists tightly as if youre holding on so tight you
dont want to let go. Take a deep breath and then tell God, Its hard but
Im giving these to you now, Lord. Then with all of your might and
strength, hurl it as if youre throwing an iron ball all the way to the sky
in front of you. Then tell yourself, Its with God now, my soul, my
heart. I accept Jesus peace now.

5. Do the above every day until every last dredge of hurt is given to
your Daddy God.

An Eternal Blessing for Loved Ones
But Joshua let Rahab the harlot live
Rahab and her fathers household and everyone connected to her.

Joshua 6:25 (MSG)

What is the greatest blessing you can give to

your loved ones? Money, houses, all the
material stuff? You know what I think? I truly
believe the greatest blessing is the Person of
Jesus. His salvation, His love, His promises
and provisions everything thats
encompassed in Him!

As mentioned in my introduction, when I first received the Lord Jesus

Christ into my life, my parents were extremely upset to the point where
my dad chased me out of the house with a cleaver knife, yelling, You are
disowned! Dont come back! I was 14 at that time.

With such a reaction, who can blame me for not sharing the Gospel with
my family? Who knows when the knife may accidentally score a point? Ha!
Just kidding. I knew my dad wouldnt actually hurt me. He was just really
angry and overwhelmed.

Let me explain, in the traditional Singaporean Chinese setup, as parents,

you want your kids to be in the same faith with you so that when you die,
your kids can send you off to the afterlife place youre supposed to go
based on whichever religion youre in. Usually, it might not be such a big
deal if Im not the firstborn or if I had a brother because firstborns or males
have a crucial role to play in the said sending off ritual. Since my dad had

52
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

only all girls, well its pretty much my responsibility as the eldest to take
care of things.

So it was really a big deal for my dad. Because really, you really dont want
to end up in the wrong place after you die just because the whole ritual got
screwed up by your firstborn, right? So I didnt really blame him for his
extreme reaction but I was stubborn. I stood firm in my decision to belong
to Jesus. But some things happened along the way and I stopped going to
church for a while. I never stopped believing in God thought. I always,
always, always knew He was and is still with me.

When I came to my current church, my limited knowledge of God

expanded. I started to understand more about Him and the way He loves.
One day, my pastor taught us about prayer. He said you dont need to
keep praying constantly about the same thing over and over again as if
God didnt hear you the first time. Instead, after you have prayed, believe
He has heard you. Believe right there and then His heart is for you. Say
amen so be it to end the prayer. Then if you feel the need to talk to
God about the same subject matter again, this time thank Him. Thank Him
for hearing your prayer the first time. Thank Him that Hes taking care of
it. Thank Him that whether it happens or not, its with your best interests.
Thank Him that it will happen in the right time, right season.

I also read about Rahab, the faith woman, in the Book of Joshua who hid
the spies. What caught me was she only let down one scarlet rope and the
Bible said it was not just Rahab whose life was spared. Her family and
everyone connected to her were included! I thought that was just wow!

So one day as I walked to work, I thought to myself, Rahab had a red rope
which represents the blood of Christ and even her extended family got
saved. What more I who have the blood of Christ? I prayed right then for
the salvation of my parents and sisters. Thereafter, every single morning,
as I walked to work, I would thank the Lord for their salvation. It took five
years to see the first fruit. And the first to receive the Lord was the one who
was the angriest with me when I first got saved my dad!

53
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

What did I do? Honestly, other than praying and thanking the Lord,
nothing else was done. On rare occasions, I would come home from a
Spirit-filled sermon in church and speed throw one or two points I learned
in church to them. It was always met with mockery and rejection. I never
let it bother me. You have to remember that the one they are really rejecting
is not you but the Lord. So dont take it personally.

I had an aunt, my moms eldest sister, whom my parents deeply respected.

She went home to be with the Lord after a short fight with cancer. It was
the first Christian funeral my family attended. On the last day of the
funeral, as we were walking to the bus stop, my dad said, I will go to
church with you this Sunday. I was shocked and asked, Why? He
mumbled, Christian funerals are peaceful.

You see, God can use any reason, any person to change your loved ones
heart to Him. But you need to start praying, thanking and opening the door
for Him to come into their lives. Those times I shared and was mocked, I
treated it as me throwing Spirit seeds into the wild soil of their hearts. It
might take root and grow, it might not. But, Im not going to stop but will
continue sharing in good spirit, not forcefully. If the season or time is not
right, back off. Let God do His work instead.

My mom received the Lord a year later when the Lord sent others to come
in and lead her to Christ. My two sisters received Him much later on, led
by my parents. I think thats so beautiful. Its one of my deepest, greatest
wish for my family to be saved and seeing it happen is miraculous!

When I met my husband, he was very reticent about sharing the Lord with
his parents. I simply asked him, Which will be greater? Your regret in not
seeing their salvation? Or your regret in not sharing because youre shy or
scared of rejection? Im happy to share that his family is saved now as
well, even if it did take a few years.

I told him that its not necessary to go in with your Bible and preach a
whole sermon to them, but share with love. Ask to pray for them. Play
Christian music that sings of the Lords loveliness in your home. Show

54
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

them the love of Christ. Share with them how the Lord has blessed you.
Show them the goodness of God. These are faith seeds youre planting.

And its the same whenever I invite and bring a non-believer friend to
church. I tell the Lord, I give this person to You. I may not be the one to
lead them to You Lord, but I want to sow a faith seed in them for You.
Whether its me or someone else, lead them to Your salvation, Lord.

Our God is love. Show that love to the world.

7 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Share short one or two lines of how good God is to your loved ones.
Keep a good attitude and smile even if they mock or reject. Just end
with, Its okay. I know God still loves you, and move on to another
topic.

2. Do you know you can preach to your loved ones without saying a
word too? You are the best walking testimony for God. Your loved ones
can see the glory of God in your life. They can see how much God has
transformed you. They can see the tangible blessings and provisions of
God in your life. And when they start asking, speak with thanksgiving
and glorify the Lord.

3. Pray for their salvation. After that, thank the Lord for it every day.

4. Dont let fear of rejection, how people start to think of you stop you
from sharing. Its a regret thats not worth it in any way.

5. Dont let the lack of result discourage you. Hardened hearts need time
to melt. Trust God to do His job.

55
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

6. Who wants your loved ones saved more? You? Or God? Do you know
God has a much, much, much greater interest and commitment to see
them saved than you? After all, He gave His only begotten Son to the
death at the Cross for your loved ones.

7. Pray a prayer to cover your loved ones with the blood of Christ daily
for protection. During a very difficult time, my moms depression nearly
had her killing herself. It was during this time she received the Lord. At
that time, I continuously prayed the blood of Christ to protect her. I told
the Lord, Keep her. If this is something she has to go through to receive
Your salvation, so be it. Just keep her life, Lord. Dont let her be
robbed.

Love Seeds
Keep on sowing your seed, for you never know which will grow
perhaps it all will.

Albert Einstein

In the previous chapter I had shared a little

on planting love seeds. And you know what?
Plant them not just in your loved ones, plant
it on anyone else who needs these love seeds.
There are also people in your life who may
not stay there long but come to mean a lot to
you. So much so that you really hope to see
them in heaven one day. But theres just no way to share deeper about who
Christ is due to time constraints. Or it could be someone who may have
difficulties understanding a long sharing of the Gospel.

One such person in my life was an elderly lady who doesnt understand
English and couldnt hear very well. What do you say to them to let them
know about Jesus? How do you pray for them? Going into a long religious
sermon is futile for her. Praying so-called high-level long prayers will
probably end up with her interrupting you halfway, Can we go eat now?
Im hungry.

I found instead the most powerful are the simplest. The way I share about
Jesus is by telling them, If you are ever in trouble or scared, just call out
three simple words, Jesus help me. Thats the divine love seed I plant in
them. When I pray for their health, I just say, Jesus make you strong,
amen!

57
2017 Jenn Cheong, http://kingdomencouragements.com/ebkre

And if there are young children around, keep it fun and happy. For my
two-year-old niece, I would lift up both my hands excitedly and say a short
prayer, Jesus make my Sophies daddy and mommy and Sophie happy
and healthy always. In Jesus name, amen! I do this every time I see her.
And I simply love it that every single time she raises her hands and shouts,
Amen!

Plant God-seeds. Do it with love going to the level your receiving party
can understand what youre planting. After all, didnt our majestic Jesus
come all the way down for us?

3 Practical Wisdom Actions

1. Keep your sharing simple and concise for those who may have
difficulty understanding.

2. Deposit this gift, Jesus, help me. Three simple powerful words to
God to enter their lives. When they find themselves in life-threatening
situations, these words can save them.

3. With children, keep it fun and do it regularly for them to discover

God is a part of their lives.

Prayer

Dear reader, if you have not received the Lord Jesus Christ in your life
before and wishes to do so, please say this prayer out loud to Him:

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving Your Son, Jesus

Christ, to die for me on the Cross. I believe that His blood
has cleansed me of every sin. I believe Jesus has rose from
the dead and is seated with You, Father, right now. Thank
You Lord, for Your perfect finished work on the Cross. I
receive You, Lord Jesus, as my Lord and Savior. I am now
righteous, accepted in You, Lord Jesus. I am now a
beloved child of God and am blessed with eternal life in
You, Lord Jesus. Thank You, Father. In Jesus name, amen.

If you have said this prayer, I encourage you to find a local church to grow
your faith and make new Kingdom friends to love you. Please do drop me
an email to know so that I can rejoice with you. Thank you for reading my
