Company History
The Paslode & Spit brands began as individual companies over 50 years ago and are now the
two core brands of ITW CP.

Founded in 1935, Paslode introduced the very first pneumatic tool in 1959 and went on to
reinforce its position as an industry innovator when in 1986 the first cordless power framing
nailer was launched. The Paslode Impulse cordless range of tools, since its launch over two
decades ago, have literally revolutionised the way in which many building trades work on site.
Operating through a patented linear combustion engine, Paslode Impulse products offer
solutions for both first and second fix timber to timber applications.

In 1949 Spit developed a unique system for fixing into steel and concrete. This system is now
generally known as cartridge or powder actuated tools (PAT). Today, ITW CP offers number
of solutions for fixing components into steel and concrete under the Spit brand. Products here
include cartridge tools, gas nailing tools, electric tools, concrete and steel screws, as well as
more traditional anchoring products.

Globally, Illinois Tool Works Inc (ITW) employs around 55,000 people across 750 business
units in 48 countries they have over 5,000 different product lines spanning various markets
including construction and automotive. In the UK ITW Construction Products employs around
200 people in a range of roles this includes around 50 sales support staff nationwide.

How has e-Xact has helped ITW Construction Products
Many of our major distributors were already on board with e-Xact so it made sense for us to
sign up as well. From a merchant perspective we know that they want one source of product
information, with e-Xact we can meet this requirement. Also e-Xact allows 3000+ branches
without external internet to access our information.
As a supplier it is important that our customers have the most up-to-date and accurate
information on our products, e-Xact enables us to do provide our customers with this.
In terms of administration e-Xact makes it easy we simply send information once to a single
point of contact for onward distribution to all customers. It saves us time answering price
enquiries, sorting invoice queries and sending out COSHH sheets whilst also allowing us to keep
control of our information, making sure it is accurate and up-to-date for our customers.
The future with e-Xact
e-Xact has been able to offer an electronic, online platform for all of our product information
which will aid our business relationships by allowing our customers to access the information
they require quickly and easily. ITW will utilise e-Xact to further strengthen our reputation with
our customers by expanding our entry over time to include extra information our customers
request from us. We hope that we will begin to receive positive feedback as this process
develops.
