3.1 Storage Platforms and Firmware
Storage platforms marked as OLD are no longer available or have been discontinued (end-of-life
(end
statement available). Its strongly recommended not to use this hardware for new installations.

Open Text continues to support d

devices marked as OLD for existing customers.

If not otherwise mentioned, Open Text recommends the use of the latest firmware versions, as those
versions generally provide improved functionality and quality. Open Text does not guarantee that
versions other than the ones tested will behave as expected.

Nevertheless, if a required firmware version for a device is specified, at least this firmware has to be
installed on that device!

Note: A newer (i.e. later) firmware than mentioned as required can be used
If the major version is the same.
The changes in the newer version are transparent for the Open Text software.

3.2 Patches and Patch Numbers

Note: SDK or API versions delivered by Open Text may be replaced by newer versions by
patches.

The patch information in the Knowledge Center has to be checked on a regular basis to see whether
newer versions are available: https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/16475999.
https://knowledge.opentext.com/go/16475999

Patch numbers listed in this document are minimum patch levels required.

5.3 IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
The Archive Server has been verified against the IBM TSM Client API.
It is recommended to use the extended functionality of the IBM Information Archive (collection type:
SSAM - System Storage Archive Manager) or the IBM System Storage DR550 / DR550 E Express. Use
of other devices may imply that data retention functionality is not available.

Customers which want to use hardware other than Information Archive or DR550/DR500 Express
have to address their IBM Software contact for support of certain hardware with the IBM TSM for Data
Retention products.

6 NAS Systems

Important
Network Attached Storage Systems (NAS) not explicitly mentioned
below are not supported as storage systems

The NFS mount to the network attached storage must be a hard mount. It has to be ensured, that the
network connection is permanently available and stable. If the mount point of a NAS system partition
does not respond, e.g. because the storage system is down, the Document Service will completely
hang.

If the backend storage system (stage II) consists of tape devices, it is strongly recommended to
provide enough hard disk (stage I) to keep all your data on those hard disks. Due to the nature of the
Archive Services random access to the data, direct tape access may decrease performance and
wear out the used hardware.

7 SAN Storage Systems

Important
SAN disks without retention periods and WORM feature are not
certified. In general, pure SAN disk are not recommended as storage
systems for content.

7.1 General Information

When using SAN Storage systems the following features have to be supported:

Provide "look&feel" of locally attached hard disks

Data is stored on hard disks only (no relocation to tape, optical, ...)
Provide high-performance and random access to data and metadata (file system metadata, e.g.
directory structures)
Support multi-threaded
threaded access
Standard file system calls (read, write, stat, delete etc.) always return results comparable to
locally attached hard disks

Customers using such systems have to assure against data loss by backup and have to execute
sanity checks regularly

7.2 Infrastructure
The implementation
entation of the connection with which the SAN Storage system is attached must be
transparent to the application.
