MUMC Music Notes
We are very excited to welcome Fred this Sunday. Please
make plans to come and be in services. What better way
to make Fred and his family feel at home than to fill our
great sanctuary? I believe our church is on the verge of
tremendous growth and a fresh commitment to reach our
community.
We are preparing some wonderful music for this Sunday.
Our choirs and brass will raise the roof just a little for
this celebration. I want to thank all who participate in
the music program here at Missouri United Methodist and
extend an invitation to all who would make a commitment
to join hands with us. I know there are talented folks
that need an active environment to share their ministry.
Yes, you all have a ministry. This is YOUR church! For
your church to be everything it can be it requires your
action, your involvement, your support. We want you and
we need you and I pray that you will respond by reaching
out to me. If music is your thing, plug in, turn on and see
where the good Lord takes you!
I was meditating on this little prayer and its worth
sharing. This is my prayer for you.

MONDAY: I Samuel 16:1-13 Focus
Samuel was focused on the past, allowing his grief over Saul to block any
forward thinking.
QUESTION: Has misplaced focus ever caused you to miss an opportunity or make
the wrong decision?
TUESDAY: I Samuel 16:1-13 A New Vision
God instructed Saul to set out. God had a new vision for the nation and
wanted Samuel to be part of that vision.
CONSIDER: Consider a time when a new way of thinking or a new direction was
needed. Consider your thought processes and your emotions as you worked
through this challenge.
WEDNESDAY: I Samuel 16:1-13 Doubt
Samuel was fearful, even though he had received a specific directive from God.
Samuels focus was still behind him rather than in front of him.
REFLECTION: Reflect on a time when you grieved the loss of a family member, a
friend, a job, a place. Did focus on that grief hamper you from moving forward?
THURSDAY: I Samuel 16:1-13 Trust
Even though his fears were warranted and his disappointment real, Samuel
followed Gods plan.
REFLECTION: : The messages we receive from God are usually not as clear and
direct as we read in Scripture. Reflect on a time when you may have felt God
leading you in a particular direction. What prompted you to hear and trust?
FRIDAY: I Samuel 16:1-13 First Impressions
Samuels first impression when he saw Jesses eldest son was positive because
Eliab was strong and handsome, and he looked like King material.
CONSIDER: Consider a time when you made an impression based on appearances
alone. Was your impression correct, or were you mistaken?
SATURDAY: I Samuel 16:1-13 Gods Eyes
The decisions we make and the impressions we form are done with our very
human processes. We often have difficulty putting ourselves aside in order to
see the larger picture.
PRAYER: Open our hearts and minds, dear God, to see through your eyes; to
focus on what opportunities you lay before us; and to trust in your love and
care.
A New Way of Seeing - July 9
Scripture: I Samuel 16:1-13 (CEB)
The Lord said to Samuel, How long are you going to grieve over Saul? I have rejected
him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with oil and get going. Im sending you to Jesse
of Bethlehem because I have found my next king among his sons.
How can I do that? Samuel asked. When Saul hears of it hell kill me!
Take a heifer with you, the Lord replied, and say, I have come to make a sacrifice
to the Lord. Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will make clear to you what you should
do. You will anoint for me the person I point out to you.
Samuel did what the Lord instructed. When he came to Bethlehem, the city elders
came to meet him. They were shaking with fear. Do you come in peace? they asked.
Yes, Samuel answered. Ive come to make a sacrifice to the Lord. Now make
yourselves holy, then come with me to the sacrifice. Samuel made Jesse and his sons
holy and invited them to the sacrifice as well.
When they arrived, Samuel looked at Eliab and thought, That must be the Lords
anointed right in front.
But the Lord said to Samuel, Have no regard for his appearance or stature, because
I havent selected him. God doesnt look at things like humans do. Humans see only
what is visible to the eyes, but the Lord sees into the heart.
Next Jesse called for Abinadab, who presented himself to Samuel, but he said, The
Lord hasnt chosen this one either. So Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said,
No, the Lord hasnt chosen this one. Jesse presented seven of his sons to Samuel,
but Samuel said to Jesse, The Lord hasnt picked any of these. Then Samuel asked
Jesse, Is that all of your boys?
There is still the youngest one, Jesse answered, but hes out keeping the sheep.
Send for him, Samuel told Jesse, because we cant proceed until he gets here.
So Jesse sent and brought him in. He was reddish brown, had beautiful eyes, and was
good-looking. The Lord said, Thats the one. Go anoint him. So Samuel took the horn
of oil and anointed him right there in front of his brothers. The Lords spirit came over
David from that point forward.
Then Samuel left and went to Ramah.

Pre-launch Better Together Groups Meeting

Everything you want to know about Fall 2017 Groups will be shared on Wednesday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 25 from
6:30-8pm. We're offering two days of the same content so choose the best day for your schedule.
This is a very open meeting for those who may participate
in and those who might facilitate groups this fall or in the
future.
Better Together Groups are made up of people who meet all
over the city in homes, public spaces, and church to learn
more about the Bible, grow in faith and meet some great
new friends.
Our focus this year is on offering affinity groups. These are
groups of people who share a similar hobby, stage of life or
experience. Pastor Charity is very excited to share a new
idea about experiential retreats for the congregation at
large.
We encourage two things of those who worship at MUMC:
worship and group up.
These pre-launch gatherings
are great for asking questions,
meeting facilitators, and even
experiencing what group can be
like.
