Chapter ZXSS10 CSN and SSN Networking

Mode

Summary:
Currently there are two schemes for multi-shelf cascading of SS. SSN and SSNI can realize the
cascading of 3 shelves or less than 3 shelves; for the cascading of more than 3 shelves, please
select CSN to realize it. This text principally introduces CSN networking mode and SSN
networking mode.

.1 CSN Networking

.1.1 Hardware Requirements on SS Multi-Shelf Cascading Configuration

The current cascading scheme is only applicable to ZXSS10 1B shelf, and CSN and CSNI boards
(there are 24 10/100M FastEthernet FE interfaces and 2 1000M GE interfaces on the board) should be
configured.

Network cable: normal twisted pair network cable.

Configuration of DIP on backplane: the difference between new shelf and the old one is that DIP is
added beside the 20 slots at the back of the new shelf, and old shelf does not have DIP. The shelf type is 1;
to be compatible with the original shelf, the fist shelf of the new shelf is turned to 3; the sub-shelves are all
turned to 1.The fist shelf type is 3 (0011b binary); other sub-shelves are all turned to 1.CSN board
position: act as active and standby CSN in slot 7 and 8 in the first shelf; CSNI board position: in slot 25 of
the fist shelf.

.1.2 SS Multi-Shelf Cascading Scheme

The two interfaces on the top of CSNI are 1000M GE interfaces, and below that, there are 24
10/100M FE interfaces which are numbered as port 1 to 24 from top to bottom. The functions are defined
separately as follows:

Port 1 to port 16: cascading ports, used for multi-shelf cascading.

Port 17 to port 24: user ports, used to connect to background PC.

Port 1 and port 2: cascading ports of trunk 1, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 1 and port 2
can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 3 and port 4: cascading ports of trunk 2, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 3 and port 4

can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 5 and port 6: cascading ports of trunk 3, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 5 and port 6
can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 7 and port 8: cascading ports of trunk 4, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 7 and port 8
can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 9 and port 10: cascading ports of trunk 5, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 9 and port 10
can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 11 and port 12: cascading ports of trunk 6, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 11 and port
12 can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 13 and port 14: cascading ports of trunk 7, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 13 and port
14 can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 15 and port 16: cascading ports of trunk 8, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 15 and port
16 can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

During the multi-shelf cascading, one trunk of cascading ports (Trunk 1 to Trunk8) of local shelf
should be used to connect to one trunk of cascading ports of opposite shelf; when the status of the above
ports are changed, alarm will be reported.

During the networking, the internal cable connection between CSN and Sun, BOSS interface and
billing server.

Set the internal network port of SUN, BOSS interface and billing server as the internal network IP
168.2.X.X, then connect them to the ports 1 to 16 of CSNI board via network cables to realize the internal
connection; the billing server can be also connected to 2 1000MGE of CSNI board.

Connect SUN to SSNI or to GE of CSNI.

By using this connection method, we can access the intranet of softswitch directly via BOSS
interface and billing server, so this cable connection method is not recommended. We recommend you to
interconnect billing interface with billing network via NIC proxy.

For the cascading of more the 8 shelves, consider to add CSN and CSNI in the 7th shelf. For example:

.2 SSN Networking

.2.1 Hardware Requirements on SS Multi-Shelf Cascading Configuration

The current cascading scheme is only applicable to ZXSS10 1B shelf, and SSNB and SSNI boards
(there are 5 10/100M FastEthernet FE interfaces and 2 1000M GE interfaces on the board) should be
configured. The hardware configuration environment of other SS (such as other SSNC and SSNI with
only 3 100M network port) is not supported in this scheme temporarily.

Network cable: normal twisted pair network cable.

.2.2 SS Multi-Shelf Cascading Scheme

The two interfaces on the bottom of SSNI are 1000M GE interfaces, and above them, there are 5
10/100M FE interfaces which are numbered as port 1 to 5 from bottom to up. The functions are defined
separately as follows:

Port 1: user port, can be used to connect SUN server or background PC.

Port 2 and port 3: cascading ports of trunk 1, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 2 and port 3
can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

Port 4 and port 5: cascading ports of trunk 2, used for multi-shelf cascading. During the cascading,
the ports must be connected to the cascading ports (Trunk) of the opposite shelf; when the ports are not
used for cascading, they also can be used as user ports, but please note: only one port of port 4 and port 5
can be used at one time, it must be either-or, and the left idle port must be in link down status.

During the multi-shelf cascading, one trunk of cascading ports (Trunk 1/Trunk 2) of local shelf must
be connected to one trunk (Trunk 1/Trunk 2) of cascading ports of opposite shelf.

During the networking, the internal cable connection between SSN and Sun, BOSS interface and
billing server.

Set the internal network port of SUN, BOSS interface and billing server as the internal network IP
168.2.X.X, then connect them to the ports 1 to 5 of SSNI board via network cables to realize the internal
connection;

By using this connection method, we can access the intranet of softswitch directly via BOSS
interface and billing server, so this cable connection method is not recommended. We recommend you to
interconnect billing interface with billing network via NIC proxy.

Chapter Softswitch Hardware Cable

Connection Specification

Summary:
The chapter mainly introduces softswitch hardware cable connection specification, including
cascading for single-shelf or multi-shelf SS1B via SSNI, cascading for multi-shelf SS via CSN
and inter-rack monitor cables for cascading.

.1 Cascading for Single-shelf or Multi-shelf SS1B via SSNI

Monitor cable: it is connected to the RS485 port of TIC card on the first shelf;

Other internal network cables are shown in following figure:

Fig. Softswitch Hardware Cable Connection Specification-2 SSNI Cable Connection for SS1B

Network cable of NIC: the NICs in 26 slot and 27 slot are for service+disaster heartbeat (if there is no

disaster environment, then there is no disaster heartbeat message); the NICs in 28 slot and 29 slot are for
NMS and billing message. The NICs in 28 slot and 29 slot can be configured as the active and standby
NICs or the independent NICs as required on site. As shown in following figure:

Fig. Softswitch Hardware Cable Connection Specification-3 Network cable 1 of NIC in SS1B

Explanations:
1. If there is no special NIC to transfer billing message, then the second Ethernet port of the billing
server should be started. The billing server is connected to the corresponding billing network, the
firewall between the billing server and the billing network should be set in order to guarantee the
safety of the billing server;
2. If there is no special NIC to transfer NMS message, then the internal network management mode can
be used, the NIC is shared by NMS message and service message.

.2 Cascading for Multi-shelf SS via CSN

Monitor cable: it is connected to the RS485 port of TIC card on the first shelf;

Other internal network cables are as shown in following figure:

Internal Use Only

Fig. Softswitch Hardware Cable Connection Specification-4 CSN Cascading for SS1B

Network cable of NIC: the NICs/GNICs in 26 slot and 27 slot are for service+disaster heartbeat (if there is
no disaster environment, then there is no disaster heartbeat message); the NICs in 28 slot and 29 slot are
for NMS and billing message. The NICs in 28 slot and 29 slot can be configured as the active and standby
NICs or the independent NICs as required on site.

The alarming box can communicate with SS1B via NIC.

As shown in following figure: (The NICs in multi-shelf SS are configured as the active and standby NICs.
The NMS and the billing message use one pair of NICs respectively or they share a pair of NICs)

.3 Inter-rack Monitor Cables of Cascading

If there are many racks in SS1B, the inter-rack monitor cables of cascading should be well connected.

Inter-rack monitor cables of cascading: connect the RS458 port of the power box at the top of the first rack
(view from the back of the rack, the RS458 port is on the very left of the power box) to the RS485 port of
the power box at the top of the second rack via the original cable, then connect the RS485 port of the
power box at the top of the second rack to the RS485 port of the power box at the top of the third rack, and
so on to the last rack.

Suppose there are two racks in SS1B. The number of the controlling rack is K1 and the other one is K2.
The cascading of inter-rack monitor cables is as shown in following figure:

Chapter SS DIP Switch and Cascading

Cable Configuration

Summary:
This chapter mainly introduces DIP switch and cascading cable connection of SS. Please note
during the commissioning.

.1 SS DIP Switch

.1.1 DIP Switch of Shelf

The DIP switch of shelf is on the mother board and only can be viewed after the blank panels in slot
21 and 22 of backplane are removed. Use torch for lighting to prevent turning by mistake.

If there are more than 3 shelves in SS, the shelf DIP switch is as follows:

Main-control shelf: turn 3, that is 0011 (from bottom to up):

Fig. SS DIP Switch and Cascading Cable Configuration-7 DIP Switch in Main-Control Shelf

Note:

Turn on for 0 and turn off for 1.The same applies below.

Other shelves: turn 1, that is 0001.

Fig. SS DIP Switch and Cascading Cable Configuration-8 DIP Switch in Other Shelves

Internal Use Only

For cascading of 3 shelves or less than 3 shelves, turn 1 for every shelf, that is 0001.

.1.2 DIP Switch on SSNI Board

3rd shelf: 0011

Fig. SS DIP Switch and Cascading Cable Configuration-11 DIP in 3rd Shelf

For 4th shelf and 5th shelf: 0100 and 0101, etc.

.1.3 P Power DIP Switch

Open the P power panel from the front of shelf, then the DIP switch and jumper can be viewed.

The switches in the 1st shelf are all turned to 0, that is they are turned to ON; the switches in the 2 nd

shelf are turned to 1 0 0 0, that is the first one is turned to OFF while the others are turned to ON; the
switches in the 3rd shelf are turned to 0 1 0 0, that is the second one is turned to OFF while the others are
turned to ON.

Jumper 1 and jumper 5 of the last shelf should be short circuits (the jumpers are numbered from 1 to
5 from up to bottom), the other 3 are released; set jumper 2 and jumper 4 of the other shelves to be short
circuits, and the other jumpers are released.

When DIP switches and jumpers are changed, they will become valid by pressing the restarting
button.

Fig. SS DIP Switch and Cascading Cable Configuration-12 DIP Switch and Jumper of Power P in 1st Shelf

Fig. SS DIP Switch and Cascading Cable Configuration-13 DIP Switch and Jumper of Power P in 2nd Shelf

(Here the jumpers are configured according to the real situation, if it is not the last shelf, then jumper 2 and jumper 4 are

short circuits, otherwise, jumper 1 and jumper 5 are short circuits.)

.2 Cascading Cables of SS
Cascading is not necessary if there is only one shelf.

If there are 2 or 3 shelves, then cascading can be realized via SSNI board.

ZTE Corporation Copyright Reserved, No Spreading Abroad unless Permitted. Page 16 of 18

Internal Use Only

Fig. SS DIP Switch and Cascading Cable Configuration-14 Cascading Realized via SSNI Board

Port 2 and port 3 of the 1 st shelf are connected to port 4 and port 5 on SSNI board of 2 nd shelf; port 4
and port 5 are connected to port 4 and port 5 on SSNI board of 3 rd shelf, then the 3-shelf cascading is
realized.

If there are more than 3 shelves, CSN board must be used to realize the cascading. There are 2
TRUNK interfaces and 8 pairs of cascading cables on the backplane, so 8 shelves can be cascaded. Please
note the sequence of cables cannot be wrong. FE1 and FE2 must be used together to connect port 4 and
port 5 on SSNI board of 1st shelf, FE3 and FE4 are connected to port 4 and port 5 on SSNI board of 2 nd
shelf, and so on.

Also please note the cascading cable used is C-ETH-006 which looks the same as the cascading cable
of MSG9000, but the labels on the cables are different.

.3 Monitoring Cables of SS
ZXSS10 SS1b monitoring includes environment monitoring, fan monitoring and power P monitoring.
Now we take shelves K1 and K2 as examples to introduce each monitoring cable.

.3.1 Environment Monitoring

The environment monitoring interface is on the backplane of power P. There are two sockets: DB25
and DB9, as shown in following figure:DB25 can monitor temperature & humidity, infra-red, smoke and
entrance guard of equipment room. To monitor these variables, an environment monitoring transit cable
H-MON-009 should be plugged in DB25; if monitoring is not performed, then the cable H-MON-016 for
equipment room entrance guard sensor loop cable should be plugged to shield the signals of equipment
room entrance guards.DB9 only monitors entrance guard of shelf. Currently it is not supported in ZXSS10
SS1, so a cable H-MON-018 for shelf entrance guard sensor loop cable should be plugged.

.3.2 Fan Monitoring

The fan monitoring interface is on the backplane of power P, there are all together 4 interfaces: FAN1
to FAN4. FAN 1 is connected to the fan on top, FAN2 to FAN 4 are idle in SS1B. C-MON-003 should be
plugged (modular plug RJ45, the 6th and the 7th line are connected in short circuit).

.3.3 Power P Monitoring
Power P monitoring interface is on the backplane of power P and there are 2 RS485, and the
connection is shown as the blue lines in the figure. The cable connecting K1 and K2 is the straight-through
cable H-ETH-009.In K1, the RS485 on top is connected to RS485-1 interface of TIC board in the core
shelf of SS1B via cable C-485-030.X8 jumper of power P should be adjusted. X8 of K1: 3-4, 7-8 are ON
and others are OFF, it is the 485 cascading mode.X8 of K2: 1-2, 9-10 are ON and others are OFF.
