Countrys first water tourism to begin in Madhya Pradesh


The countrys first water tourism will begin in Madhya Pradesh on February 12 to February
21 in Hanuwantiya at Indra Sagar Dam, one of Asias largest man-made water reservoirs with
an aim of attracting more tourists to the state.
The mega event will be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh
Chouhan.
During event named as Jal Mahotsav, adventure sports will also be organised.

After reviewing the activities of Urban Development and Environment and Housing Department in

DBT Scheme for Kerosene from April 1, 2016


The government will unveil Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme for kerosene from 1st April
2016, where the users will buy the cooking fuel at market rate but will get financial support
directly in their bank accounts.
The scheme will be implemented in selected 26 districts of 8 states.
In this regard, states be given cash incentive of 75% of subsidy savings during the first
two years, 50% in the third year and 25% in the fourth year.

Madhya Pradesh Government signed four MoUs with Singapore


Madhya Pradesh and the Singapore government have signed four MoUs during a business
seminar attended by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the third day of his visit to
Singapore.
MoUs signed between both Nations:
1,000-megawatt wind energy plant in western part of the state has been signed by
the Department of New & Renewable Energy with Singapore corporation
unit,Sembcorp Green Infra Ltd.
MoU on urban planning was signed between Madhya Pradeshs directorate of town
and country Planning and the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise.
MoU on skill training between its department of technical education and skill
development and Singapores ITE Education Services.
MoU on food processing between Indias LT Food Ltd and Singapore-based DSM
Nutritional Products.

Madhya Pradesh gets first Mega Food Park


Madhya Pradesh gets its First Mega Food Park promoted by M/s Indus mega Food Part Pvt.
Ltd.It was inaugurated by Union Minister of Food Processing Industries.
The Mega Food Park is expected to cost Rs. 127.70 crore in an area of 53.78 acres.
Key Highlights about the project
It will help to give an impulsion to the growth of the Food Processing Sector in the state.
It will have facilities of 3000 MT Cold Storage, 9000 MT Dry Warehouse, Instant Quick
Freeze (IQF) 5 MT per hour, modern Quality Control lab and other processing facilities for
fruits and vegetables.
The project will help in providing better prices to farmers.

Royal state and Heart of India composed SPVs for Smart Cities
As per the statement of Ministry of Urban Development, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh have
leading the charts in establishing the Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) for the implementation of
smart city plans.

The Ministry of Urban Development will infuse 200 crore for the 20 selected cities only
after SPVs are set up.
Where SPVs have been set up?
SPVs have been set up for five cities which include Jabalpur, Indore and Bhopal in Madhya
Pradesh and Jaipur and Udaipur in Rajasthan.
Madhya Pradesh has set up a 12-member SPV for each of the three cities.
Rajasthan has set up an 11-member SPV for Jaipur and a 13-member body for Udaipur.
The remaining 15 cities will form SPVs in the next two weeks.

Madhya Pradeshs Katni to have Indias longest railway bridge


Katni in Madhya Pradesh to have Indias longest railway bridge of 14 km in length which is
three and half folds longer than the Vembanad rail Bridge that connects Edappally and
Vallarpadam of 4.6 Km in length.
The Vembanad rail bridge in Kerala build by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in 28
months at a cost of Rs.200
Once the project comes to operation, it would be the longest Railway Bridge among
the16 railway zones of the country.
Its total length would be 21 Km included the down line of the bridge would be 7 Km

42nd Khajuraho Dance Festival Begins In MP


The 42nd Khajuraho Dance Festival begun in Khajuraho, Chhatrapur District in Madhya Pradesh
The famous festival to showcases verities of classical Dances including Kathak,
Bharatanatyam,Oddissi, and Kuchipudi giving a picture of the ancient tales like
Mahishsur Mardini and Krishna Rasa the auspicious showcase is organized by
Department of Culture, Madhya Pradesh.
The festival is celebrated on the framework of Khajuraho Temple build by Chandela
Dynasty between 950 and 1050 AD.
The Performances includes Classical dances, Documentaries, Short Films related to
fine Arts and it will be held in front of the temples dedicated to Surya (The lord Sun)
at ChitraguptaTemple and Lord Shiva at Vishwanatha Temple.
The Khajuraho Temple is a group of Hindu and Jain Temples in Madhya Pradesh.
They are one of the UNESCO World heritage Sites in India.

Madhya Pradesh presented State budget of 2016-17


Finance minister Jayant Malaiya proposed the Madhya Pradesh state budget in legislative
assembly in Bhopal on Friday. The budget estimates for 1.58 lakh crores.
Total revenue receipts of the year 2016-17 estimates to be 14 crores which
includes46500 crores as States own tax revenue, 43676.36 crores as share from
Central taxes,11481.63 crores as Non-tax revenue and 24437.15 crores from Central
Grants

MP to have its first ITBP centre
Madhya Pradesh is going to have its first Indo Tibetan Border Police weapon training centre at
Batiagarh, Damoh.
It is going to be established at 1800 acres between Batiagarh and Fatehgarh at a
cost of 2100 crores
The newly recruited constables of ITBP will be given training at the centre for operating
all kinds of small and big weapons including cannons capable of firing up to 5-km
range and sten guns
A similar training centre is already operational in Allahabad

Madhya Pradesh to join National Agri Market platform


Madhya Pradesh all set to join the recently-announced National Agriculture Market (NAM)
platform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to launch it from the stat on April 14 to
mark B R Ambedkars birth anniversary.
Initially, the state government would include only one commodity chana (gram) for e-
auction through the NAM platform.
The Union government has decided to release Rs 15 crore for all 50 mandis to equip
them with online support system, software, hardware, and grading of farm yield.
Mandi traders who contribute in regular auction of commodities carry localised mandi
licence, the trading would take place only in Karond mandi.

Madhya Pradesh has inked a credit concord worth of US $300 million for the Madhya
Pradesh (MP) Higher Education Quality Improvement Project.
The credit has been given by the International Development Association (IDA), the
World Banks concessionary lending arm.

Five Healthcare ATMs have come up in four states that dispense Medicines based on a
prescription unless they refer the patient to a doctor.
Five Medicine ATMS will come in Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and
Andhra Pradesh under a health Ministry pilot that merges telemedicine with a basic
free drugs programme.
Any Time Medicine:These Medicine ATMs will be handled by a multipurpose public health
worker (MPHW) or an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) equipped with a multi-parameter patient
vital monitor to check the basic health parameters.

LED Bulb Ujala Yojana inaugurated in Bhopal


Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Power Minister Piyush
Goyal jointly inaugurated UrjaDaksh LED Bulb UjalaYojana in Bhopal.
Under this scheme over 3 crore LED bulbs would be distributed all over the State at Rs
85 per bulb.
The bulb would be of 9 watt, but it would illuminate like 100 watt bulb. It will come
with replacement warrantee of 3 years. Its minimum working capacity is 30,000 hours.
It will be saving of 91 percent of power also saving25 to 30 unit every year. In other
words one could have saving of Rs 150 to Rs 180 in a year.

Worlds initiatory White Tiger Safari inaugurated in Heart of India


Worlds first White Tiger Safari has been opened at Mukundpur in Satna
district of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated in a states Vindhya region where the feline was first
discovered more than 100 years ago.
(White tiger scientific name Panthera tigris tigris)
It is located adjacent to the straggled Mukundpur Zoo which is spread over 75 hectares.
The Safari has been inaugurated by the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh
Chouhan.
The Safari is outlaid at a cost Rs 50 crore.
Currently, the safari is housing 3 white tigers, including one male named Raghu and two
females, Vindhya and Radha and 2 Royal Bengal tigers. In the coming months it will house 9
white tigers.
Important Facts:
The first white tiger was spotted in Madhya Pradeshs Vindhya region, in which the
Satna district falls, in 1915. It died in 1920.
In 1951, a white tiger cub, named Mohan, was captured. It became the forebear of all
known white tigers in the world after the Rewa princely states ruler Maharaja Aprtand
Singh arranged its breeding.

Indias first woman biker Veenu Paliwal passes away


Veenu Paliwal, Indias top woman biker died in a road accident.
The 44-year-old Jaipur resident died when her bike skid off a road near Gyaraspur, 100
kilometers from state capital Bhopal.

Madhya Pradesh High Court terms reservation in promotions in the State as
unconstitutional
The Madhya Pradesh high court struck down reservations for scheduled castes and tribes in
government job promotions.
(i) The court observed that giving priority to reserved categories over general classes in
promotions is not justice.
(ii) The order affects above 30,000 employees and officers with possible repercussions in
other states.
(iii) The division bench chaired by Chief Justice AM Khan wilkar set aside promotions under the
2002 Madhya Pradesh Public Service Rules that reserve 16% posts for scheduled
castes and20% for scheduled tribes in elevations saying they violated Supreme Court
guidelines.

3-day international Vichaar Mahakumbh begins in Ujjain, MP


i. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat inaugurated the three 3-day Vichaar Mahakum international
conference, during Simhastha Kumbh is underway in Ujjain, MP.
ii. This move is to discover the solutions to various national and global problems from the
perspective of traditional values of life.
iii. Over 3,500 guests including heads of religious faiths and saints are expected to attend the

BHEL commissions 600 MW thermal power plant in MP


(i) Power major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) announced the commissioning of a 600
MW coal-based thermal power plant in Madhya Pradesh.
(ii) The Avantha groups Jhabua Power Ltd developed unit has been commissioned at the
1600 MW Thermal Power Project (TPP) located in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh.
(iii) This is the second project of APIL earlier the power major BHEL commissioned the 1600
MW in Chhattisgarh.
(iv) The New Delhi based BHEL will look into the contract envisaged design, engineering,
manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of steam turbine, generator and boiler, along

MP Tourism wins Best Indian Destination for Wildlife award


i. Madhya Pradesh Tourism has received the Best Indian Destination for Wildlife award by the
Lonely Planet Group. It is to be noted that Madhya Pradesh has 25 wild life sanctuaries including
nine National Parks.

i. Tata Trusts and Madhya Pradesh government jointly signed an agreement on implementing
interventions in healthcare areas like nutrition, mental health and cancer care in the state.

government in supervising successful execution of the identified programme.

Guinness Book Recognises the largest Karma Naach Dance by 3049 people in MP
i. Mandla a district in Madhya Pradesh Organisedevent where the 3,049
participants registered their spot in the Guinness book of world records for performing
largest Karma Naach dance ever to celebrate the culture and history of the Gond tribes of
central India.
ii. The participants formed 61 large circles of 50 people and performed the traditional tribal
dance in spectacular synchronicity also all were dressed in traditional clothing to complete the
attempt, and the folk dance was accompanied by live music.

i. The BJP MLA Rajendra Dadu passed away in a road accident in Madhya Pradeshs Sehore
district on his way to Bhopal to attend the BJPs legislature party meeting. He died on the
spot. He was 53 year old.

MP becomes first state to have Happiness Department


i. Madhya Pradesh is all set to become the first state to set up Happiness Department, with
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan saying it will work to ensure happiness in the lives of
common people on the lines of Bhutan.
ii. Upon this decision the Cabinet has decided to constitute Happiness Department in the state
and the CM chouuhan will head the department.
iii. The centre includes a chairman, a CEO, a director each for Research and Coordination and an
accounts officer, four posts of Research Assistant, six Junior Assistant and five peons.
iv. The state cabinet approved an estimated budget of Rs 3.6 crore for the Happiness department.

Indias first diamond mineral block auctioned in MP
i. Madhya Pradeshs diamond mineral block had been auctioned. The block was believed to
have a precious stone deposit worth Rs 106 crore .This is the first diamond mineral block of the
country which has gone under the hammer.
ii. Hatupur Diamond mineral block was successfully auctioned at Panna district in the Madhya
Pradesh.
iii. Bansal Construction Works emerged as the preferred bidder by submitting the highest final
price offer after two rounds of competitive bidding. Three other companies- Rungta Mines Ltd,
Thriveni Earthmovers Ltd and Pushpanjali Tradevin Pvt Ltd were also in competition for
the block.

Aditya Birla Group to invest Rs 20000 crore in MP.


i. Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla pledged an investment of Rs. 20,000
crore for the state of MP in sectors like retail, telecom and cement.
ii. According to Mr. Birla at Madhya Pradesh Global Investors Summit, MP is among the top
markets for Idea Cellular, which has already invested nearly Rs. 7,000 crore over two decades.

Roopa Ganguly, Ganeshan take oath as Rajya Sabha MPs


i. Roopa Ganguly and Ganeshan two newly elected and nominated Members of Rajya
Sabha have taken oath in the presence of Rajya Sabha Chairman Md. Hamid Ansari in the
Parliament House.

ii. Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, L. Ganesan, who will now represent the state ofMadhya

MP Gov launched Lalima Abhiyan to make state free from anaemia


i. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan decided to launch a scheme-Lalima
Abhiyan to make Madhya Pradesh anaemia-free. It will be effective from November 1, 2016
ii. Free iron folic acid tablets will be provided in aaganwadis, academic institutions and hospitals.
iii. Ferrous escorbate tablets instead of ferrous sulphate tablets will be distributed by the states
Health Minister, Jagat Prasad Nadda
iv. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Lalita Yadav has appealed to public
representatives, non-governmental organisations and government officers and employees to
cooperate for the success of the campaign.

Professor Raj Bisaria to get Madhya Pradesh government govts Kalidas Samman
i. Famous theatre personality and Padma Shri, Prof Raj Bisaria is all set to proud of his
achievement with the Madhya Pradesh government honouring him with its prestigious Kalidas
Samman national award for 2015-16 for achievement in theatre. The ceremony would be held
in Ujjain, which is also the birthday of the 80 year old.
ii. The annual award constituted in 1980 awards personalities in the four fields of classical dance,
classical music, theatre and plastic arts.

Madhya Pradesh CM Launches Five Months Long Narmada Seva Yatra at Amarkantak
i. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched Narmada Seva Yatra at
Amarkantak on December 11, 2016.
ii. The five months long Yatra which will continue till May 11, 2017 aims to turn the Narmada
river pollution free.
iii. The Narmada Sewa Yatra will cover more than 1,900 kilometres in 16 districts and create
awareness about the conservation of the river.

NBWL gives Green signal for the Ken-Betwa Inter-Linking of Rivers Project
i. The National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) on December 26 gave its approval for the Ken-
Betwa inter-linking of rivers (ILR) project which will benefit Uttar Pradesh and Madhya
Pradesh in terms of meeting irrigation, drinking water and electricity needs of people across

six districts in the two states.


ii. The project worth Rs 9,000 crore had got the Cabinet clearance in July 2014 but work could
not begin since it required clearance from the NBWL who were opposing the project citing its
impact on tiger reserve and wildlife sanctuaries.
iii. The Ken-Betwa ILR project will transfer surplus water from the Ken river to the Betwa basin
through a 221-km canal. The concrete canal will pass through Jhansi, Banda and
Mahoba districts of UP and Chhatarpur, Panna and Tikamgarh districts of MP.

Madhya Pradesh plans to develop 1,100 climate-smart villages


Madhya Pradesh has plan to develop 1,100 climate-smart villages n a period of next 6
years to prepare farmers to manage the climate change risks timely and ensure good productivity
said by state Farmer Welfare & Agriculture Development Department Principal Secretary Dr
Rajesh Rajora
Highlights of the plan:
i. According to the plan, 100 villages in each of the 11 agro-climatic zones of the state would
be taken up under the National Agriculture Development Programme (NADP) and Indian National
Mission on Sustainable Agriculture with a cost about Rs 150 crore every year.
ii. Farmers would be encouraged to go for short duration variety of crops and Agro-forestry also
would be adopted by them.

Madhya Pradesh Inaugurates First Crop Insurance Claim Distribution Programme


i. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on December 10, 2016,
inaugurated the programme to distribute Pradhan Mantri Fasal Beema Yojna claim worth 4
thousand 416 crore rupees to 20 lakh 46 thousand farmers of the state from Ujjain
district.
ii. Madhya Pradesh is the first Indian state to start the biggest and first ever crop insurance claim
distribution programme worth Rupees 4 thousand 416 crore.

Nagar Uday Abhiyan launched in Madhya Pradesh


i. The three-phase campaign Nagar Uday Abhiyan has been launched in all 378 urban bodies of
Madhya Pradesh on December 25, the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
ii. Aim :To assess services being provided to citizens and bring them at standard live
iii. The first phase will be held between December 25 to 28, the second phase will be conducted
between January 3 and 15 and the third phase will take place between January 20 and
February 5.
iv. Teams of officers and employees of departments would be constituted in the first phase of the
campaign.

Co-Artist of national emblem Dinanath Bhargava dies at 89 in Indore


i. Dinanath Bhargava, a co-artist in the team that sketched the national emblem Lion Capital
of Ashoka and decorated the pages of the Constitutions manuscript, died at the age of 89 in
Indore on December 24, 2016
ii. Bhargava was suffering from cardiac ailments since past decade.
iii. He was born on November 1, 1927 at Multai in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh and was
chosen by noted painter Nandlal Bose in the group for designing the pages of the Indian
Constitution.

BJP Leader and Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Sunderlal Patwa Dies at 92
i. Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and two-times Madhya Pradesh chief
minister Sunderlal Patwa passed away at Bansal Private Hospital in Bhopal on December 28
after suffering a severe heart attack. He was 92.
ii. He was appointed chief minister for a brief period of two months in the year 1980 and again
from 1990 to 1992.
