Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful day from everyone at the church.
The Lord has been doing wonderful things for the people at church. No wonder
the Scripture says, "This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes"
(Psalm 118:23). This verse is in an interesting setting, in that the psalmist
wrote about something that would happen to the Messiah when He came: that
He would be rejected by the leaders of the people! It is marvelous in our eyes
because the Lord always takes the side of those who are lowly, those who are in
need of a lifting up, those who struggle. He is mindful of all His children! It
doesn't matter what condition they are in: our heavenly Father cares and stands
up for His people! He is strong like that!
We know that this life is very limited. There are weaknesses in our flesh,
time passes all too quickly, and there is no lasting peace and satisfaction
outside of Christ. Yet God does not forsake His people. He is interested in
strengthening you in the inner man. Paul wrote these words to the church at
Ephesus: "That He would grant you... to be strengthened with might by His
Spirit in the inner man." This spiritual power comes to us so that we don't
faint in the day of adversity. When trouble comes, or situations make it very
difficult to even breathe, God provided a way for you so that you won't sink
into despair! He always brings hope to the hopeless. He gives courage to those
who can't take another step. He always provides the means for His people to
regroup and start fresh and new. He touches us by His Spirit in the inner man!
This spiritual power comes to us as we seek Him with all our hearts. It helps us
when temptations come to cause us to veer off the pathway of righteousness.
A minister wrote many years ago that the words "righteousness,"
"sanctification," and "wisdom," are not things or doctrines, but Christ Himself
in the inner man. The Bible says He is our righteousness, our sanctification,
and our wisdom. He is all this to the believer. Without Jesus, I am not justified
before God, I have no right-standing in His eyes, I am not sanctified, and
spiritual wisdom is non-existent. Jesus is all these things to me and for me! I
am perfectly whole when He is in control of my steps. He makes me to have
confidence with God. There is nothing I can do that gives me assurance God
hears my prayers except Jesus made it possible for me to enter the throne of
grace, and make my petitions known before this holy, all-powerful God. Many
have told me over the years that they are not good enough to make heaven their
home one day. They fear death because their actions fall short of God's glory.
They are very true! But Jesus made it all possible to be saved! He made it
possible for our lives to be transformed into the image of God. He gives you
strength and power to overcome the sins and weaknesses of the flesh. By dying
in our place at Calvary, Jesus took our punishment for our sins, so we can claim
the right to come before God unashamed! This was not just for Judgment Day,
but every day! My confidence comes from Him. My masters degree in
theology couldn't do it. The fact that I incorporated a church could not give me
this type of confidence. Giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to missions
over the years did not buy peace with God. But the smallest child can have the
type of faith I'm speaking about. The weakest, sickest person in the world can
have this type of faith in God. It is the miracle of a relationship between man
and God restored. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.
The Bible says, "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our
faith..." (Hebrews 12:2). People fail and fall short for various reasons.
Situations change almost overnight. Time marches on and no one can stop it.
But God's love for you never fails, it never changes, and cannot be stopped. He
will strengthen you today by His Spirit as you yield your heart to Him. He will
transform you from a loser to a winner by one touch from His hand! He will
cause you to be an overcomer, despite everything you face that needs to be
overcome. My wife always told our children that when they are faced with a
choice, to always choose Jesus. That way they will never go wrong. Even if the
whole world goes contrary to Christ's teachings, always choose Jesus. He will
always show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are perfect
towards Him!
