Purpose: The purpose of this placement tool is to give incoming students from outside districts a successful
world language experience. Students who are successfully placed into the appropriate level are more likely to
be successful and continue the world language. Questions regarding credit for students should be directed to
the building counselors and/or principals. This placement is for students interested in a level 2 course or
subsequent courses, and is not for entry into a level 1 courses. All students are welcome to take the level 1
course in any of our foreign language courses. This tool is not for current Shakopee students looking to test
out of a world language level; that process is Credit by Assessment and a counselor can share that process
with a student (ie: a current student who takes a course with Concordia Language Villages and would like to
test out of a level, should go through the Credit by Assessment process.)
What is being assessed: The placement tool is mix of vocabulary and grammar, written skills and/or
speaking skills that are taught over a year. There is an equal distribution of learning targets from each unit.
Step one assesses their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar topics from each level and step two assesses
their productive skills and their ability to apply the knowledge of vocab and grammar.
Administered by: Depending on the world language, most begin with a canvas module asking students about
vocabulary and grammar. Upon successful completion of the multiple choice questions, a student will be
asked written or oral question(s) for the student to demonstrate the skills developed in the level 1 course.
Definition of Passing the Placement Exam: Students who score a 70% or higher will be automatically invited
to the writing portion of the placement exam. Students below this level have the opportunity to discuss options
with the appropriate language teacher.

lagunas y sombras infernales y litigioso caos.
Y otra y otra
vez te conjuro; y as confiando en mi mucho poder, parto para all con mi hilado, donde
creo te llevo ya envuelto.
