DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN BIOLOGY 8

By: Lorie L. No

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the discussion at least 75% of the students should be able to:
1. Delineate the digestion process.
2. Put ones finger on the phases of digestion and;
3. Ascertain how human body absorbs food.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: The Human Digestive System.
Values Integration: Cooperation
References: Basic Biology (p. 121-128) Edna A. Amparado
Materials: Visual, Chalk, Marker and Pictures

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Daily Routine

Teachers Activity Students Activitys

2. Motivation

Motive questions:
1. What have you eaten today? (Student will answer)
2. Why did you choose to eat those
foods?
3. What happened to your food after you
ate it?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation of the lesson
Students will be divided into four groups
and each group will arrange the jumbled
pictures and after arranging those
pictures, each group has a representative
to present what picture did their group

2. Discussion

Class, I know that each group is done,

so present your pictures.
(Student will answer)
Based on the pictures that you
encountered earlier, what do you think is
the topic for today?

Maam I think our lesson for today is about digestive system.

Very well said Rizza.

What is digestion Chelsea?

Maam according to my source digestion is a process of

reducing food particles into soluble particles or molecules for the
absorption of the human body.

Very good Chelsea!

Now that we already know what

digestion is, lets move on the parts of
our digestive system.

Yes, Maam!

Anyone in the class, can list down some

parts of our digestive system here in the
board?

(Student will answer)

Who would like to give me the

definition of teeth?

Teeth are to rip, grind, mash and generally pulverize all that
food we put into our mouth.

Very good, how about the tongue?

Tongue it is a very strong muscle made for rolling food around

your mouth so your teeth can work best.

Great! Anyone in the class can define

what salivary gland is?

Salivary glands this fluid enzymes helps to soften up the food.

Nice answer! Who would like to give
me a definition of Epiglottis?

Epiglottis, trap door belongs to both the respiratory system and

digestive system.

Amazing! How about the Esophagus?

Esophagus is a muscular canal running from the pharynx to the

stomach.

Nice one, can you give me the definition

of Stomach?

Stomach most of the food we eat becomes unrecognizable here

in the stomach.

Very good! Now, lets proceed to the

Small Intestine, what is Small Intestine?

Small Intestine the small bowel has 3 main sections: the

Duodenum, jejunum and ileum.

Great! Next is Duodenum, what is

Duodenum?

Duodenum it is the first section of the twenty-two foot long

small intestine.

Very well said! Now, we already know

what is Small Intestine is, how about the
Large Intestine, any idea?

The purpose of Large Intestine is to pass remaining essential

nutrients into the bloodstream and the storage and elimination.

Nice answer! Next is Appendix, what is

Appendix any idea?

Appendix is a piece of food gels stuck in here causing an

infection.

Very Good! Lets proceed to the last

one what is it?
Rectum is the last portion of the large intestine used for storage
and stool ready for disposal.

Now after knowing what are the parts of

digestive system, lets look to the phases
of Human digestion.

Anyone who knows the two phases of

Human digestion?

The two phases are Mechanical or Physical digestion phase and

Chemical digestion phase.

Great! What are the roles of these two

phases in our digestive system?

Mechanical phase of digestion it involves the breaking down of

large food particles into smaller particles without the action of
enzymes, while the chemical phase of digestion is the breaking
down of food particles in soluble form such as amino acids,
simple sugars, glycerol and fatty acids.

Very well said, so did you understand

our topic for today?

Yes, Maam!

3. Generalization
1. What is digestion?
2. What are the two phases of digestion?
3. What are the organs of human
digestive system?

C. Application
Student will be divided into four groups
and they will have a short presentation on
how the digestive system helps our
everyday living and how to take care of
it.
.
