Details:
The MEI CASHFLOW SC was launched in 2002 equipped with the industrys first fit-for-purpose cashbox that was reliable,
durable and easy to use. MEI enhanced the design in 2006 to lengthen service life in operating environments susceptible
to dust ingress. These enhancements to cashbox optics and the related software changes were made with the purpose of
eliminating the need to clean individual cashbox components.
Although the need should be lessened with the 2006 update, applications that operate in extreme environments have
historically cleaned cashboxes when they can be removed from service. The need was necessitated by:
1. Reduced Capacity
2. Dirty Optics
3. Upgrade of in-service equipment
For operators that want to continue to clean cashboxes, MEI has tested solutions internally. In each case, the cleaned
CASHFLOW SC units met all product specifications and were fit to go back in the field and meet stringent performance
expectations.
As always, MEI looks forward to working with its customers to develop efficient maintenance processes that maximize the
investment in MEI products. There is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Individual solutions will vary by customer and MEI will
help each OEM determine the most efficient path forward (including equipment recommendations) given volume and
application.
Recommended Supplies
1. Ultrasonic Cleaner (The below models have been tested) or a commercial dishwasher
o BT90 Ultrasonic Cleaner holds approximately 2-3 SCLs or 4-5 SCs.
o BT130 Ultrasonic Cleaner holds approximately 3-4 SCLs or 5-6 SCs.
o Blue Wave Ultrasonic Cleaner sized to fit the cash box (http://www.bluewaveinc.com)
2. Optional Neutral PH Detergent (Blue Wave 25-I was used for testing)
3. Optional Drying Equipment
o Dry, oil-free compressed air

Action:
WARNINGS
1. The serial number label must be protected with an over laminate or physically kept out of the ultrasonic cleaner to
prevent degradation.
2. Hardware with black oxide coating is prone to surface rust (handle retention screws). Should rust occur,
performance or durability will not be affected.
3. Certain detergents may leave deposits on the rivet heads, this will not affect performance.
4. Cashboxes should self dry over time in the right conditions; sporadic cashbox capacity may be seen if the cashbox
is not completely dry before use.
5. Temperatures exceeding 70C (158F) during cleaning or drying will cause physical damage to the cashbox.
6. Small scale process experimentation is recommended in order to make adjustments for the actual environmental
conditions.
7. Check with your lock manufacturer before leaving them on the cashbox during cleanings. MEI testing was
performed on units without locks.
8. Rust inhibitors are generally not recommended or required unless the environmental conditions are such that
additional metal surface protection is required. Mainly, low air circulation, high salinity, or low oxygen
environments.
9. Cleaning frequency for each cashbox should be limited to 50 times maximum over the life of the cashbox.
10. Warm water rinse should be performed according to the ultrasonic/detergent manufacturers recommendations.
11. SCXL Cashboxes were NOT tested.
