Final Presentation for Summer 2017

I. Decide on a Unit topic: Civil Rights Movement 101 Student will be able to
summarize important events that happened during this error, discuss and
evaluate issues in this time, identify key players, discover the governments
role, and review landmark court cases that effected the hindrance and
progression of the movement. This lesson is for sophomores.

Lesson Plan

Daily topic: Time Line

Objectives:
1. Students will create a timeline of monumental events in the Civil Rights
Movement
2. Student will identify key players during the Civil Right Movement.
3. Students will define the differences between civil, political, economic, and
cultural rights and will identify examples of these rights within the Civil
Rights Movement.
4. Student will identify landmark court cases that enhanced and hindered the
progress of the Civil Rights Movement.

Procedures:
List the order of your activities be specific (I should be able to teach
straight from your plans)
1. As an opener the students will be asked to come up with one word or
person that describes Civil Rights Movement. The question will be used
by way of answer garden with a url link. The student will be able to use a
mobile device, computer, or tablet to answer this question. The answers
will be displayed on the projector.
2. The teacher will then show 2 short videos from youtube that talks about
the timeline of the civil rights movement. Instruct students to take notes
while watching the videos
3. After video students will be split into groups with no more than 4-5 in
each group (this may alter depending on class size). At least one person
needs to have a tablet or a computer for the activity. Students will access
their google drive and use google drawings to create a timeline based on
the videos and other information that they have learned in previous
lectures. Encourage students to be creative with timelines. Not all the
timelines have to have the exact same dates. The dates should reflect what
the students groups agree upon are most important. Student will be given
15 minutes to complete their timelines. The students will send each of
their timelines to the teacher.
4. Once 15 minutes are up the teacher will facilitate which groups should
present and when. The groups will get up and present each of their
timelines and why the choice each particular event. They will also pick 3
events and tell if it was considered political, economical, or cultural
rights. Each group should use no more than 2-3 minutes to present

Material needed: Student need a tablet, computer, or a smart phone. Student will be
told a head of time so they can check computers out from the library. The teacher
will also need a laptop and a projector.
