School uniform is special clothes worn by all students of a particular school. The uniform
of a school may differ from others. Why should schools use uniforms? Below are some reasons.
First of all, Notre Dames Department of Sociology produced a study in 1998
concerning school uniforms. Their findings using 10th grade students showed that uniforms
have no direct effect on substance abuse, behavioral problems or
attendance. It also claimed a negative effect on student achievements for those students
considered pro-school.
Secondly, uniform helps to create a strong sense school ethos and a sense of belonging to
a particular community. As such it promotes discipline and helps to drive up academic standards,
which is why a uniform is often adopted by schools which are being reopened with a fresh start
after being classified as failing.
Finally, uniform acts as a social leveler, under which all students are equal in the eyes of
the school and of each other. In institutions without uniform students are often competitive and
worry endlessly about their appearance and the clothes they should wear. Pupils without
expensive designer clothes and trainers may be singled out as social outcasts, or stigmatized as
being from poor backgrounds. For these reasons many parents prefer uniforms as they save them
money on buying clothes for school wear. Considering the findings, schools should implement
the uniform as their identity. The government should also publish some kind of rule which
makes uniform compulsory for schools.
2. In institutions without uniform students, one will be regarded poor because he/she
a. does not wear a school uniform d. posses a bad academic record
b. cannot afford to buy a school uniform e. has a bad attitude at school
c. wears no expensive designer clothes
As such it promotes discipline and helps to drive up academic standards .. (Paragraph

Dear Editor,
I am writing to complain about ads on TV. There are so many ads, especially during my favorite
programs. I think they should be stopped for a number of reasons.
First, ads are nuisance. They go on for a long time and there are so many. Sometime the duration
for ads is longer than the program itself.
Second, ads give a bad influence on people. They try to encourage people to buy unhealthy food
like beers, soft drinks, candies, etc. In other words, they make people want things they do not
really need and cannot afford.
Finally, it seems that ads play an important role in the programs people watch. There are lots of
ads in the programs, watched by a lot of people. Meanwhile, some programs which are not so
popular are stopped because they do not attract enough ads, even though those programs may be
people's Favorite.
For those reasons, I think TV stations should stop showing ads. They interrupt programs, and
have bad influence on people and they sometimes put a stop at people's favorite shows. I am sick
of ads and now I watch movie in the cinema.
Sincerely yours,
Masarani S.W.
Health food is a general term applied to all kinds of foods that are considered more healthful
than the types of foods widely sold in supermarkets. For example, whole grains, dried beans, and
corn oil are health foods. A narrower classification of health food is natural food. This term is
used to distinguish between types of the same food.
Fresh fruit is a natural food, but canned fruit, with sugars and other additives, is not. The most
precise term of all and the narrowest classification within health foods is organic food, used to
describe food that has been grown on a particular kind of farm. Fruits and vegetables that are
grown in gardens treated only with organic fertilizers are organic foods. They are neither
sprayed with poisonous insecticides nor refined after harvest.
In choosing the type of food you eat, you have basically two choices: inorganic processed foods,
or organic unprocessed foods. A wise decision should include consideration of allegations that
processed foods containing chemicals are proven to be toxic. It also states that the vitamin
content is greatly reduced in processed foods.

Once upon a time, there lived as neighbours, a bear and a rabbit. The rabbit is a good shot. In
contrary, the bear is always clumsy and could not use the arrow to good advantage.
One day, the bear called over the rabbit and asked the rabbit to take his bow and arrows and
came with bear to the other side of the hill. The rabbit was feared to arouse the bear's anger so he
could not refuse it. He consented and went with the bear and shot enough buffalo to satisfy the
hungry family. Indeed he shot and killed so many that there was lots of meat left after the bear
and his family had loaded themselves and packed all they could carry home.
The bear was very gluttonous and did not want the rabbit to get any of the meat. The rabbit
could not even taste the blood from the butchering as the bear would throw earth on the blood
and dry it up. The poor rabbit would have to go home hungry after his hard day's work.
The bear was the father of five children. The youngest child was very kind to the rabbit. He was
very hearty eater. The mother bear always gave him an extra large piece of meat but the
youngest child did not eat it. He would take it outside with him and pretended to play ball with
the meat. He kicked toward the rabbit's house and when he got close to the door he would give
the meat with such a great kick. The meat would fly into the rabbit's house. In this way, the poor
rabbit would get his meal unknown to the papa bear.

ScienceDaily (Dec. 4, 2012) Influenza, commonly known as the flu, has distinct transmission
patterns around the world. In temperate regions, influenza's occurrence peaks during the winter
season, while in some tropical regions, the disease's occurrence tends to correspond with the
rainy season.
Linsey Marr, associate professor of civil and environmental engineering at Virginia Tech, and
her colleagues, Wan Yang, of Blacksburg, Va., one of her doctoral students, and Elankumaran
Subbiah, a virologist in the biomedical sciences and pathobiology department of the Virginia-
Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, measured the influenza A virus survival rate
at various levels of humidity.
Their study presents for the first time the relationship between the influenza A virus viability in
human mucus and humidity over a large range of relative humidities, from 17 percent to 100
percent. They found the viability of the flu A virus was highest when the relative humidity was
either close to 100 percent or below 50 percent. The results in human mucus may help explain
influenza's seasonality in different regions.
"We added flu viruses to droplets of simulated respiratory fluid and to actual human mucus and
then measured what fraction survived after exposure to low, medium, and high relative
humidities," said Marr.
At low humidity, respiratory droplets evaporate completely and the virus survives well under dry
conditions. But at moderate humidity, the droplets evaporate some, but not completely, leaving
the virus exposed to higher levels of chemicals in the fluid and compromising the virus' ability
to infect cells.
In a past study also conducted by Marr, Yang, and Subbiah, published in United Kingdom's
Journal of the Royal Society Interface, the researchers collected samples from a waiting room of
a health care center, two toddlers' rooms and one babies' area of a daycare center, as well as three
cross-country flights. Findings showed the average concentration was 16,000 viruses per cubic
meter of air, and the majority of the viruses were associated with fine particles, less than 2.5
micrometers, which can remain suspended for hours.
Possible explanations for the seasonality of the flu have been investigated, such as the return of
kids to school, people spending more time indoors in the winter, and lower light levels that affect
the immune system, but there is no agreement on them, said the NSF CAREER award recipient.
The researchers found humidity could explain the seasonality of influenza by controlling the
ability of viruses to remain infectious while they are in droplets or aerosols. The viruses survived
best at low humidity, such as those found indoors
in the winter, and at extremely high humidity. Humidity affects the composition of the fluid,
namely the concentrations of salts and proteins in respiratory droplets, and this affects the
survival rates of the flu virus.

On Thursday, we visited the temples in Prambanan. There are three big temples, the Brahmana,
Syiwa and Wisnu temples. They are really amazing. We visited only Brahmana and Syiwa
temples, because Wisnu temple is being renovated.
On Friday morning we went to Yogya Kraton. We spent about two hours there. We were lucky
because we were led by a smart and friendly guide. Then we continued our journey to
Borobudur. We arrived there at four p.m. At 5 p.m. we heard the announcement that Borobudur
gate would be closed.

Is it important to know what your kids are watching? Of course yes. Television can expose
things you have tried to protect them from, especially violence, pornography, consumerism, etc.
A study demonstrated that spending too much time on watching TV during the day or at bedtime
often causes bedtime disruption, stress, and short of sleep duration.
Another research found that there is a significant relationship between the amount of time spent
for watching television during adolescence and early adulthood, and the possibility of being
aggressive.
Meanwhile, many studies have identified a relationship between kids who watch TV a lot and
being inactive and overweight.
Considering some facts mentioned above, protect your children with the following tips:
1) Limit television viewing to 1-2 hours each day.
2) Do not allow your children to have a TV set in their bedrooms.
3) Review the rating of TV shows that your children watch.
4) Watch television with your children and discuss what is happening in the show.

thick legs, huge sides and backs, large hanging ears, a small tail, little eyes, long white tusks and
above all it has a long nose, the trunk.
The trunk is the elephants peculiar feature, and it has various uses. The elephant draws up water
by its trunk and can squirt it all over its body like a shower bath. It can also lift leaves and puts

Some people agree with the rule because it indicates students mastery of the whole material or
the competence they have ntanaged to have over the past three years. The result of the final
exam is also significant for students future study in the higher level.
In addition, we are far left behind by our neighboring countries that have implemented a higher
graduation gracle standarcl. If the standard is omitted. then student will get left behind even
furlher by those students fiom neighboring cottntries students.
However, some other people believe that imposing a high standard will not be etfective. The
results of the exams have proven to be unreliable. How can you asses the students competence
only in a couple of days. A smart student for example, may get a low grade just because he is
sick during the exam. On the other hand, an idle student may achieve the standard due to luck.
There should then be an alternative way to the national exam.

Ted Robinson has been worried all the week. Last Tuesday he received a letter from the local
police. In the letter he was asked to call at the station. Ted wondered why he was wanted b the
police, but he went to the station yesterday and now he is not worried any more. At the station,
he was told by a smiling policeman that his bicycle was picked up in a small village four
hundred miles away. It is now being sent to his home by train. Ted was most surprised when he
found. It was stolen twenty years ago when Ted was a boy of fifteen!
