Session Hall 3 (Gerlans)

Day 2

Positive Discipline (same)

Classroom Management

Teachers should embed not fear but mutual respect between teachers and students.

Consistency

Sarcasm does not work for the CWDs or children in general. They might not get the real meaning or
might perceive another thing from what other people say.

Application (video of the teacher)

Sir Donald shared his observation about the teacher on the video. He said, it is observed that the
teacher is teaching in a private school. Circle times are good only if you are handling small classes unlike
in public schools where students normally are in large numbers. It is also important that at the beginning
of the class, the teacher has set the rules. In the video, it is observed that the students had only
memorized the rules but tend not to understand because the children didnt practice it.

Day 3

Sharing

Sir Donald expressed his thoughts that in Taguig City, with regard to inclusive education, there is a
limited special education centers in their area as of the moment. Thus, all children are enrolled directly
to preschool. It was really difficult to handle a large number of students considering that these students
are showing red flags.

Another teacher shared her experience from a grade 4 transferee student who was enrolled on mid-
October 2016. The student was showing unusual activities such as throwing garbage to other students
or showing violent actuations. She had learned that the child is coming from a broken family where only
his grandmother is the one that stands as his guardian. Apparently, the grandmother does not know
much from the child because they seldom talk to each other because as per grandmothers personal
observation, the child is considered to be a spoiled brat. What the teacher did to the student is to have
him undergo a modular approach of learning.

The facilitator reiterated that there should be a collaborative task from the teacher, the guardian, and
the parents. It would really be a difficult situation so it must undergo a process from assessing the child
and proper referral system to address the concern.

Roll-out Planning/ Closing Remarks

The districts from NCR were able to make a roll out plan for the inclusive education in their respective
area.
Ms. De Lara felt very thankful because of the sudden increase of the advocates for inclusive education.
She also commended the participants who will roll out the plan to their respective schools.

With regard to the etent of what help can Save the Children extend, KASALI project is willing to support
the DepEd for the regional wide implementation of the project. The organization may help the other
divisions through supporting capacity building and other human resources needs. The organization
pivots only in Paraaque, Taguig, and Pateros. But in the scenario that the budget can accommodate all
divisions, Save the Children is not hesitant to engage the participants on future trainings.

Key points from Ms. De Lara:

1. Maximize the InSeT and LAC sessions
2. Referral Mechanism
3. Data Gathering
4. Report and Monitoring
5. Coaching and Monitoring

Ms. Genia encouraged everyone not to stop as the participants know their roles as a teacher, principal,
or supervisor. She also extended her thanks and praises to Save the Children for their unwavering help
to DepEd through a lot of partnerships they have had as networks.
She added that whatever we are doing is for the good of the children with hashtags -
#parasabatangmagaaral and #parasabayan.
