Full name Tengku Amir Hamzah is Amir Hamzah, but usually called Amir
Hamzah. He was born in Tanjung Pura, Langkat, North Sumatra, on February 28,
1911. Amir Hamzah grew in aristocratic circles langkat who obey the Islamic
religion. His uncle, Machmud, is Sultan Langkat based in the capital city of Tanjung
Pura, who ruled in 1927-1941. His father, Tengku Muhammad Adil (which is none
other than the brother of the Sultan Machmud itself), became deputy sultan to Luhak
langkat Bengkulu and based in Binjai, East Sumatra.
Amir Hamzah can not be separated from the Malay literature. Therefore, not

Asrul Sani (born in Rao, West Sumatra, June 10, 1926, died in Jakarta,
January 11, 2004) is a writer and filmmaker from Indonesia. Graduated at the Faculty
of Veterinary Medicine, University of Indonesia (1955). Had attended an
international seminar on culture at Harvard University (1954), to deepen knowledge
of dramaturgy, and cinematography at the University of Southern California, Los
Angeles, USA (1956), then help Sticusa in Amsterdam (1957-1958).
Together Anwar and RIVAI APIN, he founded "Arena Artist" (1946) and

Additionally, Asrul ever became editor of the magazine New Poet, Gema Atmosphere
(later Gema), Arena (1966-1967), and most recently as general manager Citra Film
(1981-1982).

(collection of poems, 1975), the Court (drama, 1988), General Nagabonar (screenplay
movie, 1988), and Letters Trust (a collection of essays, 1997).

In addition to writing poetry, short stories, and essays, Asrul also known as a
translator and filmmaker. Translation: Sea Silence (works Vercors, 1949), Prince
Young (translation along Siti Nuraini; by Antoine de St-Exupery, 1952), Six Lessons
for Prospective Actor (works Ricard Boleslavsky, 1960), House of the Virgin (novel
Yasunari Kawabata, 1977 ), Villa des Roses (novel Willem Elschot, 1977), Princess
Island (novel Maria Dermount, 1977), Temple Kencana (novel of Yukio Mishima,
1978), Door Closed (drama Jean Paul Sartre, 1979), Julius Caesar (the plays of
William Shakespeare , 1979), Child (works of R. Tagore, 1979), Notes from
Underground (Fyodor Dostoyeski novel, 1979), Beauty and depression (Yasunari
Kawabata novel, 1980), and the Inspector General (drama Nicolai Gogol, 1986).
The film is directed: "Fence Barbed Wire" (1963), "What You're Looking For,
Palupi" (1970), "One Care" (1974), "The Moon in the Upper Grave" (1976), "Crisis
of Life" (1978) "Under the Protection of the Temple" (1978), and others.
2000 Asrul Mahaputra Star received awards from the Government of Indonesia.
