Phillips record-breaking haul is the most ever raised by a challenger at this stage in
a Minnesota Congressional race and is among the highest fundraising totals nationally
among Congressional challengers this quarter. His support comes from a broad array
of individuals across party affiliations and notably does not include contributions
from special interest PACs or Washington lobbyists, which Phillips has pledged not to
seek or accept.
"I am both humbled by and grateful for the outpouring of support I've received since I
announced my candidacy in May," said Phillips. "I am also proud that we accomplished
this without raising a single dime from special interest PACs or lobbyists. Individual
Democrats, independents and Republicans are powering our campaign through
contributions of both time and money because they want more responsible, inclusive
and independent-minded leadership, which is exactly what I'll provide from day one if
I'm fortunate enough to serve."
During his five terms in Congress, career politician and incumbent Representative Erik
Paulsen has accepted $6.8 million from special interest PACs. He continues to
vote 100% of the time with Donald Trumps agenda in Washington including his vote
to raise healthcare premiums for Minnesota families, older Americans and those with
pre-existing conditions and has been noticeably absent from public events in the
district.
Since entering this race, Minnesotans of every political stripe have been inspired by
Deans campaign and his willingness to have conversations with people throughout the
district, especially those worried about Erik Paulsens vote to raise their healthcare
costs, said Tom Perron, senior advisor to Phillips campaign.
The same cant be said for Erik Paulsen. Hes a no-show for his constituents, but hell
show up for the special interests and Washington lobbyists who are funding his
campaign year after year. Meanwhile, Dean is running this campaign the same way he
intends to serve in Congress: by working hard, by showing up, and by listening
and voters in the 3rd District are already responding in a big way," concluded Perron.
