Specific Objectives: By the end of this lesson, Students should be able to:
i. Make and decorate a menu by choosing food for starter, main course,
drinks and dessert
ii. Write 4 compound sentences describing the food they have chosen for
the menu.
Resources: Handout (crossword puzzle and adjectives), pictures of food, markers, oil
pastel, pencil colour, scissors and glue
Procedures
Pre Writing: 1. Students watch a video clip: Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatball
2. List down the food they can see in the clip.
(sardines, burger, egg, bacon, fried chicken, ice cream, bagels, grilled
cheese, candies, chocolate, pancake, steak, pie, jelly, hotdog, spaghetti,
meatballs, banana, pancake, strawberry, pizza, corn, watermelon,
sandwich, meatballs, fortune cookies)
3. Question and answer session:
Who is Flint Lockwood?
What is his greatest invention?
What do you think happen to him?
What do you like to eat?
What do you eat during recess?
Crossword Puzzle:
1. Fill in the crossword puzzle based on the description of food.
2. Check the answer together with the whole class.
Writing: Pre-teaching:
Grammar focus: Adjectives
1. Students are introduced to keywords (describing food):
Taste: sour, salty, sweet, spicy, bitter
Texture: crispy, moist, soft, chewy, dry
(note: through a power point presentation)
2. Students give their own example on food related to each adjectives
Activity 1:
1. Students are divided into pairs. They are asked to think of their favourite
food.
2. They are given a handout with a table
3. They take turn to ask question and answer:
Student A: What do you like to eat?
Student B: I like to eat ..................................
Student A: Why do you like to eat ........................?
Student B: The ..................... is ............. and ..................
4. Student A will write 3 5 sentences about what student B likes to eat
including the reason. (Example: B likes to eat chicken rice. The chicken
rice is salty. He likes it because the rice is soft and moist. The chicken is
sweet and crispy.
5. The students will exchange their work. They read and edit their friends
writing.
6. They will rewrite their work based on the feedback given.
Activity 2:
1. Students are given handouts containing 3 types of cakes.
2. They transfer the information about the cakes into the table (complete
the information about the cakes)
3. Discuss and check the answer together
