Re: 30 Day Notice of Potential Position Elimination, Bumping, and/or Layoff
The Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County (*Clerk’s Office”) relies largely on fund ided by Cook,
; of Cook County (“Clerk's Office”) relies largely on funding provided by Cook County
taxes, The Clerk's Office has been advised by the Cook County Office ofthe President that a Temporary Restraining Order (“TRO”)
Preventing the coletion of the Sweetened Beverage Tax was issued on Tune 30, 2017, creating a projected budgetary short forthe
remainder of this fiscal year.
As a result of this projected budgetary shortfall, effective August 19, 2017, there is a strong possibility that various positions will have
to be eliminated. Even if your current position is not identified for elimination, you may be subject to being bumped out of your
position by a coworker with more seniority. Therefore this letter is your 30-day Notice of a potential position elimination, downgrade,
or layoff,
Pursuant to Article V, Section 3 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (“CBA”) (Reduction in Work Force, Layoff, and Recall) the
‘employees in the eliminated positions, depending on their seniority, may have the right to take another position, (i.e. bump) in
the Clerk’s Office in lieu of a layoff. This will result in a reorganization of the Clerk's Office based on the “bumping rights”
outlined in Article V, Section 3 of the CBA. This is your official 30 Day Notice that even though your position may not be
climinated, you may be affected by the elimination of other positions, in one of the following ways: 1) Being bumped to a lower
salary, and/or grade, and/or job classification; 2) Being bumped to a different work location in a lower salary, and/or grade,
and/or job classification; or 3) Laid off.
In the upcoming days and weeks, you will be notified if you are affected by the elimination of positions. If your seniority
determines that you have “bumping rights” according to Article V, Section 3 of the CBA, a member of the Human Resources,
staff will contact you to schedule an appointment to discuss your available options. After all employees have exercised their
bumping rights, and it is determined that your position is to be laid off, then this will be your official 30 Day Layoff Notice. If
you are to be laid off, then your last day of work will he in pay period #17 which ends August 19, 2017. If you are bumped to
‘a new position, then you will begin working in your new position in pay period #18 which starts August 20, 2017.
Iryou have specific questions regarding these matters, please contact your Union representative at 847-939-9700, or Labor
Relations, at 312-603-6979.
Sincerely,
Roblin Perkins
