Learning Outcomes : Student should be able to
describe what a magnetic field is,
draw the magnetic field of a bar magnet and the
directions of the magnetic field.
Relate magnetic filed lines and strength of magnetic
field,
Explain the use of the a magnet in a compass.
relate the current flow through a conductor with
magnetism.
Describe what an electromagnet is.
Activities :
ENGAGE
1. Teacher shows the students a bar magnet and asks the students to write on the board
everything they know about the bar magnet.
2. Teacher relates the students answer to todays topic.
EXPLORE
3. Students have to gather in groups and carry out experiment 7.15 to classify objects to
magnetic substance and non-magnetic substance and experiment 7.16 to study the
pattern and direction of the magnetic field lines.
4. Students have to record their answer and share it with the class.
EXPLAIN
5. Teacher explains magnetism and electromagnetism and relates it to students
observations.
EXTEND
6. Students have to carry out experiment 7.18 (SPS) to study the pattern and direction of the
magnetic field of a straight conductor which conducts electricity.
7. Students record their observations and representative of the group tell it to the class.
EVALUATE
8. Students have to tell the class what they have learnt in todays class.
