Curriculum overview
Requirement for all first year students
The courses aim to deepen students' understanding of the process of composition and revision, as well as to
cultivate their basic research skills
Over the course of the semester, researching, writing, and editing skills essential to the Brandeis
undergraduate curriculum will be developed

Department Information
At Brandeis, FYW curriculum is handled by the English Department. Before graduation, all students are
required to complete one writing-intensive course and either a second writing-intensive course or an oral
communication course.

Faculty

Drew Flanagan- Is a Ph.D candidate in the department of history at Brandeis


University studying 20th century French and German history. His research interests include
the Second World War and the early postwar period, transnational and borderlands history,
war and society studies, political anthropology and the history of memory. He holds a BA in
European history with High Honors from Wesleyan University and an MA in history from
Brandeis University. And has taught Remembering the resistance, Inside Nazi
Germany:Social and Political History of the Third Reich, & Social and Political History of the Third Reich.

Hanh Bui- A fourth year Ph.D student. She holds a B.A from Stanford University.
Hanh research interests include 16th and 17th British literature, early modern health and
conceptions of the body, materiality, age studies, medical humanities, and ethics. And has
taught Shakespeare in love,The Films of Disney and Literature and Medicine.
