ADMINISTRATION DROPPING OPPOSITION TO TEXAS VOTER ID

Marc Elias issued the following statement on Monday in response to news the
Trump Administration would drop opposition to Texas' strict voter ID law:

"It certainly did not take long for newly installed Attorney General Sessions to
validate the fears voiced during his confirmation fight. After taking the lead in
challenging Texas' restrictive voting law these last six years, the Justice
Department, now under President Trump, is actively siding with suppression.
Make no mistake: this move is just the beginning of the Trump administration's
coordinated assault on the right to vote, and it demands an
aggressive response. Priorities USA will fight to ensure that legal challenges to
laws like the one in Texas go forward, regardless of the Trump administration's
withdrawal from such lawsuits."
