Generator Protection DATA SHEET: TEMBREAK 2 S125-NJ MCCB

Generators may need specially modified protection characteristics, based on their short-circuit
Time/Current Characteristic Curves Time/Current Characteristic Curves
capability.
S125-NJ (20A to 100A) S125-NJ (125A)

If a generator is capable of delivering short-circuit current greater than six times its full load current,
a standard TemBreak 2 thermal magnetic MCCB may be used, with I i set at less than the available
short-circuit current. (Note that MCCBs, with fixed magnetic characteristics may not be suitable for
20 24048 125 1250250
this application.) 32 38477
50 600120
63 756151
100 1200240

A thermal magnetic MCCB with low instantaneous protection may be used where the generator
50-100A(max)
short-circuit current is less than six times its full load current. These are modified versions of the
standard MCCB. 20-32A(max)
125A(max)

Four pole MCCBs with low instantaneous protection have protection on the neutral pole as standard. 50-100A(min)
125A(min)
The magnetic characteristic of MCCBs with low instantaneous protection is fixed at the following values: 20-32A(min)

Model Magnetic Trip Current

S160 3xIn
S250 3xIn Adjustable setting range Adjustable setting range

S400 3.5xIn

Neutral Pole Protection

Neutral pole protection is available as an optional extra on four pole thermal magnetic MCCBs.
The thermal and magnetic elements in the neutral pole are related to those in the phase poles as follows:
Phase Trip Threshold Neutral Trip Threshold
Thermal I r (adjustable) I N (adjustable)= I n
Magnetic I i (adjustable) I i (adjustable)

Motor Protection
MCCBs feeding motors are often only required to provide protection from short-circuits. Overload
protection is provided by a dedicated thermal or electronic overload relay. Tembreak 2 MCCBs without
thermal protection elements are available for this application. Four pole MCCBs with magnetic trip
only have protection on the neutral pole as standard.

TemContact 2 is a new range of magnetic contactors and
thermal overload relays. Current ratings from 6A to 800A
are available in 9 frame sizes and in 3 or 4 pole versions.

Safer
TemContact 2 has upgraded insulation voltage (from 690 to
1000V AC) and impulse withstand voltage (from 6kV to
8kV) in contactors over 40AF.

The electrical arc is extinguished entirely within the sealed

unit, so that no arc flash is exposed. The sealed structure
also prevents dust and humidity from entering the contactor.
An optional safety cover is available which prohibits any
unintended manual operation.
