1. Application Software - any program, or group of programs, that is


designed for the end user. It includes such things
as database programs, word processors, Web
browsers and spreadsheets.

2. Business Software - is any software or set of computer programs that are


used by business users to perform various business functions. These
business applications are used to increase productivity, to measure
productivity and to perform business functions accurately.

3. Multimedia and Graphic Software - is software that can play and view and
edit all sorts of media, such as Music, Videos, Pictures, etc.

4. Operating Systems - is the most important program that runs on


acomputer. Every general-purpose computer must have an operating
system to run other programs and applications. Operating systems
perform basic tasks, such as recognizing inputfrom the keyboard,
sending output to the display screen, keeping track
of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral
devices such as disk drives and printers.

Different Operating Systems
1. Android - is a mobile operating system currently developed by Google,
based on the Linux kernel and designed primarily for touchscreen mobile
devices such as smartphones and tablets.

2. iOS - is a mobile operating system created and developed by Apple


Inc. and distributed exclusively for Apple hardware. It is the operating
system that presently powers many of the company's mobile devices,
including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. It is the second most popular
mobile operating system platform in the world by sales

3. MAC OS - is a series of graphical user interfacebased operating


systems developed by Apple Inc. for their Macintosh line of computer
systems.

4. MS-DOS - is an operating system for x86-based personal computers


mostly developed by Microsoft.
5. Symbian- is the operating system developed and sold by Symbian Ltd.
The OS is used primarily by Nokia. It is also used by a number of Japanese
mobile phone manufacturers for handsets sold inside of Japan.

6. Linux - is a freely distributable, cross-platform operating system based on


Unix that can be installed on PCs, laptops, netbooks, mobile and tablet
devices, video game consoles, servers, supercomputers and more.

7. Unix - Unix (trademarked as UNIX) is a family of multitasking, multiuser


computer operating systems that derive from the original AT&T Unix,
8. Windows - is a metafamily of graphical operating systems developed,
marketed, and sold by Microsoft. It consists of several families of
operating systems, each of which cater to a certain sector of the
computing industry.

5. Computer Communications - is defined as any that occurs through the


use of two or more electronic devices.

6. Computer Networks- is a set of computers connected together for the


purpose of sharing resources. The most common resource shared today is
connection to the Internet. Other shared resources can include a printer or
a file server.

7. Database - s a collection of information that is organized so that it can


easily be accessed, managed, and updated. In one view, databases can
be classified according to types of content: bibliographic, full-text,
numeric, and images.
