Concrete Structures Design Requirements
Wind Speed
Wind speed shall not be less than the following based on the applied loads code/standard:
Nominal wind speed for 3 sec gust 38 m/s (A per ASCE 7-10 / IBC 2012)
Mean hourly wind speed 25 m/s (as per BS 6399-2)
Mean 10 minutes wind speed 27 m/s (as per BS EN 1991-1-4)
The seismic design for all building structure:

shall be based upon local seismic accelerations recommended as per
ASCE 7-10,
IBC 2012 or
BS EN 1998-1:2004.
Local seismic spectral accelerations based upon uniform hazard response spectra for 475 year and
2475 year return period for Doha as below.

Buildings Environmental Requirements
Thermal Insulation
For all new air conditioned buildings, the external walls, roofs
and floors exterior must have an average thermal transmittance
(U Value) which does not exceed the following values:
o Roof U= 0.44W/m2K
o External Wall U=0.57W/m2K
o Floor U=0.57W/m2K

Waste Management
Construction and Demolition Waste
For all new buildings unless or until specified otherwise, at least
fifty percent (50%) by volume or weight of Construction and
Demolition Waste of buildings must be recycled or reused.
Bulk Waste Collection
For all new residential apartment buildings, an area must be
provided for residents to place items of bulky waste such as
furniture and, electrical appliances
Recyclable Waste Management Facilities:
For all new buildings other than villas, a sorting and storage
facility for recyclable materials must be provided

Concrete Reinforcing Bars
Reinforcement shall be from an acceptable source. All steel

reinforcement bars shall comply with the requirements of:
QS ISO 6935 with minimum grade of B500 MPa or
BS 4449 with minimum grades of B500 MPa ; or.
ASTM A615 / A615M with minimum grade of 75 [520MpPa]; or
Deformed and Plain, Low-carbon, -Chromium, -Steel Bars for Concrete
Reinforcement: ASTM A1035/ A1035M -11
Other types of reinforcement, as approved by Qatar
As per project design, other steel grades of less than B500MPa
may be used only for stirrups and secondary reinforcement of
diameter of 10mm or less.
