corner to a top left corner enclosing columns in Grid 5 and intersecting beams in third
bay. The right-bottom to left-top movement selects whatever the box touches or

encloses a powerful selection tool-. Proceed similarly with the first bay columns
and beams. Make sure only 14 points and 24 lines are selected.
Delete beams and columns in first and third bays
Select all members in Frame at elev C (make sure no more than 20 points and 36 lines)
Edit/Replicate

On the top toolbar click plan


Select BASE
Select all points (a total of 20 points)
Assign/Joint-Point/Restraints/

Check extrusion and check apply to all windows

Floor Meshing Options= Default
Ramp and Wall Meshing Options= Subdivide Object with Maximum Size of: 24
Check box for Add restraint/constraints on edge
OK
On top toolbar select the checkmark box
Check Auto Area Mesh (bottom right) and check Apply to all Windows (bottom left)
Visually verify the meshing in elev 1, 3, 4, and 6

DIAPHRAGM DEFINITIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

On the top toolbar click plan


Select STORY1
Draw/Draw Area Objects/Draw Rectangular Areas
Select Property NONE
Drag Mouse from Grid A1 to Grid H6
Close Properties of Object window
Using the arrow icon in the side toolbar, click on the area object just drawn
Edit/Replicate/Story
Select STORY2 TO STORY6
OK
On top toolbar select the checkmark box
At bottom left check both Extrusion and Apply to all Windows
Verify all 6 Area Objects were assigned
On the top toolbar click plan

Select STORY1
On the bottom right, next to GLOBAL and Kip-in, select All Stories
Click on the floor plan to select the Area Object assigned (6 Areas, 24 Edges are selected)
Assign/Shell-Area/Diaphragms
Select D1
On top toolbar select the checkmark box
Check Diaphragm Extent (bottom right) and Apply to all Windows (bottom left)
Visually verify the diaphragm assignment either in 3D or Plan views

MASS DEFINITIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS


On top toolbar select the checkmark box
Uncheck Diaphragm Extent and Check Apply to all Windows
On the top toolbar click plan
Select STORY1
Click on floor plan to select all diaphragms (the All Stories button is still active)
Assign/Shell-Area/Additional Area Mass
Mass/Area=2.338E-6 (Note: this comes from 0.130 ksf/32.2/123 for units of kip-in)
Replace Existing Masses
On top toolbar select the checkmark box
Check Additional Masses (bottom right) and Apply to all Windows (bottom left)
Visually verify the mass assignments
Define/Mass Source
Select From Self and Specified Mass
Check both boxes at bottom for Include Lateral Mass Only
Lump Lateral Mass at Story Levels

STATIC LOAD CASES


Define/Static Load Cases
Load= X1000 Type=QUAKE Self Weight Mult.=0 Auto=User Loads
Add New Load
Load= Y1000 Type=QUAKE Self Weight Mult.=0 Auto=User Loads
Add New Load
Without closing the window select X1000 User Loads and click Modify Lateral Load
Assign FX=1000kips at Story6
Select Apply at Center of Mass and select 0 eccentricity

Select Y1000 User Loads and click Modify Lateral Load
Assign FY=1000kips at Story6
Select Apply at Center of Mass and select 0 eccentricity
