Greater Change exists

to educate and

empower vulnerable women

and children in

Northern Iraq to become
change agents

in their communities.

We seek a transformed Iraq where families

can live in peace and women and children
are empowered to flourish and grow.

We are motivated by Jesus Christ as the only one who can

create a greater change and transformation in our lives.

His love compels us to serve and we rely on Him to lead us.

A Message from Executive Director, Zenat Drown

Greater Change was born out of my experience in Northern

Iraq, where I have spent the last two years with my husband
and two sons helping those displaced by the war raging in this
region. As I spent time with mothers and children who have
endured the brunt of the war, my heart broke. Time and time
again I saw the sadness and desperation in a persons eyes
who sought a change...for a mother to be released from ISIS
captivity, for a place to escape from the leaky and moldy tent,
for a less crowded school that actually taught children how to
read, for a more peaceful place - away from the war that was
ravaging lives.

I opened the Greater Change Community Center with a band of

local community members who wanted to bring change in their
village outside the UN refugee camps. This place has been
overwhelmed with refugees who fled to the relative safety that it
offers, nestled in the mountains of Northern Iraq.

Our goal is to see the community revive through mothers who

again have hope and through youth who are excited about
working through community projects to improve the quality of
life. More importantly, I want to share the Greater Change of
Jesus Christ because, ultimately, it is only when He enters the
hearts of these men, women and children that real
transformation will occur.
We opened the Greater Change Community Center in May 2017,
welcoming 105 students from both the camps and broader
community. With 2 classrooms, reception area, child-friendly space,
kitchen, and counseling room, the Center facilitates an environment
of learning and healing through the following programming:

Basic Skills: Our basic skills courses teach health and

nutrition, English, and photography. The General Health &
Nutrition class was the most requested section from families
and offers material specific to refugees in the Kurdish region.

Child Friendly Space: This space offers safety and stability for
kids, utilizing developmentally appropriate play practices for
children in difficult times.

Trauma Counseling: We provide both group and individual

counseling to survivors of trauma and torture.

We need community centers like Greater Change to help girls
like me get an education so that we can help our community.

Q&A with our Deputy Director, Bayan

Bayan works tirelessly to keep programs running smoothly at our
community center. With a background in nursing and work with IDPs,

Q: What makes you excited to get up and go to work every day?

A: People are waiting for us at the door they come to learn something
new and gain knowledge [about] how to bring change into their lives.
The smiles of the little children I see every day give me hope and keep
me going on.

Q: What change do you want to see in your community?

A: I want to see girls and women with more power and knowledgeI
want to have nice places for the children to play, libraries to read, and a
safe playground where they can hangout.

Q: What gives you hope and joy in your work?

A: Seeing people come to the center every day and the amazing team
we have there. They work so hard like a family. I feel there is life in
the center. That gives me hope.

Q: How can others support you in prayer?

A: Please pray for us to be able to help more. Pray for the staff that
God gives them knowledge and wisdom and for the IDPs with
especially high temperatures in the camp.

beauty behind things that do not
seem so appealing to most of the
