Jokowi discusses security, investment

As the annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Beijing is shrouded with ongoing
rivalry between host china and the united states, president joko jokowi widodo met on Monday with
leaders from the US, Japan and Russia, and in straightforward diplomacy demanded more for Indonesia.

In his first encounter with US president barrack obama on the sideline of the event, jokowi underscored
indonesias commitment to remain actively engaged in the region to ensure stability.

Obama told jokowi that indonesias role as a leader in ASEAN should contribute to the enforcement of
maritime security and the compliance of international norms in the region. He also said that regional
discussions over the regions security would be high in the agenda during the upcoming east asia summit
in naypyitaw, Myanmar, this week.

The summit is a forum held annually by leaders of 18 countries, including the united states and Russia. It
is held after the annual asean leaders meetings.

During the event, jokowi will launch his signature maritime-axis vision to the world amid the protracted
territorial row over the south china sea between china and several asean member countries, such as the
Philippines and Vietnam, who are backed by the US.

Other security issues discussed with obama include indonesias commitment to rooting out Islamic
extremism.

Jokowi told obama that Indonesia, having the worlds largest muslim population, had illustrated
democracy at its best as seen in the peaceful transition of power during the recentlegislative and
presidential election .
Borobudur writers festival explores ratu adil myth

The third annual Borobudur writers and Cultural Festival has kicked off, which means Queen of Justice, as
its central theme.

Held at the world heritage listed Borobudur Temple and surrounding villages in Magelang, Central Java,
from Thursday to Saturday, the event features some 100 authors and researchers, and is expected to
present accurate and interesting stories involving Ratu Adil from across Indonesia.

Event curator Seno joko Suryono told the media that the event is dedicated to historian Sartono
Kartodirjo, who conducted the first research into Ratu Adil in Banten.

Seno added that the myth of Ratu Adil, which expresses peoples hope for a happy life under an
enlightened leader, didi not exist only in the Javanese Jangka Jayabaya prophecy story.

The myth, he explained, had long existed in areas across the country, including west java, bali, Makassar
and papua. Papuan mythology, for example, mentions a Ratu Adil figure named Makar Makeri, who is
largery unknown outside the region.

The event is jointly organized by the Samana Foundation and management company PT taman wisata
candi Borobudur, prambanan dan ratu book (PT TWC)

Another curator, wicaksono adi, said ratu adil figures like kartosuwiryo, a former nationalist who turned
to radical islam, had always been associated with rebellion and was therefore avoided bywider society.

He added that lack of understanding about the cultural identity that linked all communities in Indonesia
could lead to disintegration.

Meanwhile, PT TWCs director Laily Prihaningtyas said the event was also aimed at reviving Borobudur
temple as a center of knowledge.

One festivalgoer, journalist Taufik Rahzen, said the writers festival could lead to a new trend in the
literary world.

This years festival will also show case art performances presented by locals in and around the temple.

The event will be officially closed on Saturday at the Sheraton Hotel in Yogyakarta. British historian peter
carey will be granted the sang hyang kamahayanikan 2014 award for his research into national
heroprince diponegoro.

KPK reminds govt to boost its budget

The corruption eradication commission (KPK) has reminded the government to increase its budget
allocation to enable it to improve its capacity as the front runner in the countrys fight against
corruption.

The leaders of the KPK, who received Finance Minister Bambang brodjonegoro at the KPK headquarters
on Thursday, said an increase in it budget was one of President Joko Jokowi widodos pledges during
his presidential campaign.

The antigraft body claims to have been hampered by a low buddget over the years, which averages 0,5
percent of the state budget.

graft cases, including 75 lawmakers and councilors.

disburse it due to the House refusing to endorse it. In December 2013, the
KPKstarted to construction of the building, which will be able to accommodate
1,300 personnel and is scheduled for completion in 2015
Despite the objection of Jakarta City Council deputy speakers and several
other faction leaders, speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi unilaterally decided to
announce Basuki Ahok Tjahaja Purnama as Jakarta governor in a plemary
session on Friday.

Prasetyo, of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle ( PDI-P ), said on


Thursday that it was better to announce the appointment of Ahok immediately.

Ahok is scheduled to be inaugurated as governor on Nov.18. Prasetyo said


if there was any council member who did not agree with his decision, they could
take legal action. On month after the resignation of former governor Joko Jokowi
Widodo, now the countrys President, Ahoks status is still acting governor.

The delay was due to a rift among the councilors, who have different
opinions regarding the legalbasis for Ahoks inauguration.

Ahok, who was in Gerindra, left the party in protest over the partysrole in
approving the law that would stop direct regional leader elelctions. Since then,
Ahoks relationship with Gerindra has turned sour.

Previously, the parties agreed to counsult with the Home Ministry and the
Supreme Court regarding the rift. Prasetyo said, however, that he canceled the
meeting with both in stitutions because the deputy speakers were nowhere to be
found on the agreed day. He said he was also not worried if the members who did
not agree with his decision did not attend the plenary session

Shipments declined 4.1 percent to 7.96 million metric tons in the year
