Windows 10 VPN Configuration

Click on the network icon in the bottom right hand side of the
screen
Click on "Network Settings

On the following screen, select "VPN" from the left hand side
Click on "Add a VPN Connection"

Enter the following details

VPN provider: Windows (built-in)

Connection name: UoE L2TP VPN
Server name or address: vpn2.net.ed.ac.uk
VPN type: Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol with IPsec
(L2TP/IPsec)
Type of sign-in info: Username and password
Leave everything else blank and select "Save"
After you have saved the connection, click on "Change
adapter options"
On the following page, right Click on UoE L2TP VPN and
select "Properties"

Click on the "Security" tab

For "Type of VPN" select "Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol with
IPsec (L2TP/IPSec)"
For "Data Encryption" select "Require encryption
(disconnect if server declines)"
Click on "Allow these protocols"
Select "Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol
(CHAP)"
Select "Microsoft CHAP Version 2"
Click on "Advanced Settings"

In the "Advanced Properties" window, select "Use preshared

key for authentication", and for "Key": enter "playfair"
Click "OK" to close both windows
Back in the VPN window, click on the UoE L2TP VPN
connection and select "Connect"
When it asks for your credentials, enter your UUN and your
VPN password.
