Lesson Idea Name: Slope of the line.

Content Area: Math.
Grade Level(s): 7/8 Math.
Content Standard Addressed: MGSE8.EE.5 Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the
slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways.
MGSE8.EE.6 Use similar triangles to explain why the slope m is the same between any two distinct points on
a nonvertical line in the coordinate plane; derive the equation y = mx for a line through the origin and the
equation y = mx + b for a line intercepting the vertical axis at b.

Technology Standard Addressed: Empowered Leaner and Knowledge Construction.

Lesson idea implementation:
Students will be introduced to the concept as an assignment in the Flip classroom. When the students come to
class they going to get a laptop, go to BrainPop, and start to practice how to solve and graph a slope of a line.
The students will work for fifteen minutes on their own to complete the assignment. Based on how the students
score from the quiz we are going to reflect on the slope of the line lesson and I will address any point of
confusion.
The aim of BrainPop activity is to inform the students how to get a slope of the line. We are going to apply
what we learned about the slope of the line lesson, to the real world. We also going to find how does the slope
of the line tie to the real world and what are the use of the slope of the line. Students will reflect on their own
words what did they understood from the lesson and work on problems 3-7 in their math book page 50.
Importance of technology:
Website- creation tool enhance the learning experience and help the student to visualize the lesson of the slope
of the line using technology. Yes, however, the use of technology may appeal to student because you can see
the result instantaneously. The experience to connect to the real-world application which we can see it using
technology. I am going to be using desmos as well to help the student notice how linear function can have a
positive slope or negative slope or no slope. With desmos you can see the result instantaneously.
Inspiration (optional):
I want the students to have a great time while they are learning the concept.
Students are going watch a video about the slope of the line and them going to take a quick quiz. Students are
welcome practice graphing and challenge themselves with graphing game.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
I must make sure that student under 13 years old cannot open any account without parent permission or
consent. I will have a word document that include the list of websites I need the student to go through, to do
their research. Its a safe guided way to help insure that all the students are on the right track. I also must
explain the safe use of the internet search for all the student before we start using the internet. We also need to
make sure that we have all the parent consent that their children may be using the computer labs to do some
research.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

Summer 2017_SJB
Classroom Blog and Website Creation Tools
I am trying to introduce the concept to the students first through the flipped classroom activities to see what
they learned before we start the concept at classroom. I want to see the students engaging in classroom
discussion based on what they have gained or experienced through watching the video and going through the
quiz. I would like to see a combination of using the technology and class instruction that student would gain
deeper understanding of the concept of linear function and slope intercept.
Other comments about your proposed activity:
I would like the students to go and challenge themselves, using the game to see how far they can go in
understanding the concept of linear function and how it is related to the slope of the line.
