Local Legislator Brue DeGroot Receives 2nd Award, MODLs Legislator Excellence
Award, for His Work in Tort Reform

JEFFERSON CITY, MO Representative DeGroot has received recognition from another attorney group for
his ongoing efforts to our court system. This award follows recognition from the Missouri Creditors Bar Inc.,
and a freshman of the Year award, both recognizing him for the ongoing work in tort reform.

The award was presented at Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers (MODL) annual conference in
Branson, MO. MODLs President, Clay Crawford, stated, Representative DeGroot has made a difference with
passage of his bill, House Bill 339, which reforms RSMO 537.065. Passage of this statute will save Missourians
insurance premiums and reduce outrageous judgements by abuse of this section.

As a first-term legislator, DeGroot served as a member of the House Judiciary Committee. He also served on
the House Special Committee on Litigation Reform. In his work on both committees he has helped to fine tune
pieces of legislation that would work to limit frivolous lawsuits and end Missouris reputation as a judicial
hellhole. Most notably, Rep. DeGroot sponsored HB 339, which has been delivered to the Governor. The bill
aims to end current abuse of the system and restore integrity to litigation of tort claims.

Rep. DeGroot has been a practicing attorney since 1993 when he graduated from St. Louis University School of
Law. Immediately prior to being elected to Missouri General Assembly, he served on Chesterfield City Council
for three and half years.

I am very honored to have received this award from such a prestigious organization like MODL. The lawyers
and law firms which comprise this group are on the front line of defending our businesses from unreasonable
attacks via lawsuits. The fact that this is the third award I have received as a result of my work in tort reform
really reflects both the importance and necessity of the work being accomplished in the house.
