SGRIP Details

1. Duration of visit with expected start and end dates

1 month. Expected dates 1st December to 31st December 2017, may be extended to first week
of January if need be.

2. Justification of the visit, and Detailed plan of activities:What are going to do there? Try
to relate with justification; something that cannot be done without travelling there.

Professor Somwrita Sarkar teaches and coordinates the Information Visualisation Design Studio
at the University of Sydney and her work is focussed around analytics and machine learning
approaches in city science, complex networks, etc.

Therefore, any mathematical approaches and code she has developed will be available to Avijit
when he visits. We could have access to open data (for example Opal Card data, or Australian
Bureau of Statistics data, which is quite complex in nature).

Besides, the benefits of interacting with the Complex Systems University of Sydney research
group cannot be overstated, which spans a number of different faculties and schools at
University of Sydney:

complex-systems/brain-dynamics/.

We expect to utilise the expertise of the faculty and the excellent research facilities available at
USyd to study about the Geographic Embeddedness of Topological Networks, using the
empirical data available at the lab to develop models of geographic networks in the urban
domain and to test their validity.

We hope that this will culminate in a journal paper and/or poster presentation of the
visualization of such networks at a suitable conference.
