Schneider. Despite the on and off rainy weather, over 400 children, parents siblings enjoyed
free hot dogs/chips/water (over 450 consumed), clown entertainment and face painting and
games by the Millbrae Leos.
Shortly afterwards, a delightful parade on Broadway led by our Millbrae Fire Depart-

The Millbrae Lions have become famous for hosting 2 delicious annual crab dinner
dance events: The Millbrae Lions Club Crab Cioppino Dinner & Dance chaired by Lion
Susan Freddie, and the Millbrae Lions Club Marinated Crab Feed & Dance chaired by Lion
PP Don Beyer. Each popular event starts off with cocktails having their own unique menu,
raffle and entertainment, and both are packed with crowds of well over 300 people. These
sold out events take place early during crab season, with the most recent Crab Cioppino on
Saturday, January 21, 2017 and prior the Marinated Crab Feed Saturday October 22, 2016,

because they go quickly.
Millbrae Lions Ann Schneider has been hard at work collecting used eyeglasses through-
out our community. Placement of eyeglass collection boxes are now located strategically
around Millbrae at various businesses. The collection and recycling of un-used eyeglasses by
Lions is a blessing to those who cant afford eye care costs. Along with White Cane collec-

available to help those who cant take care of their own vision needs. If you have un-used
eyeglasses please deliver them to Chapel of the Highlands in Millbrae, or to other loca-

Girls HIV infection seems
under control without AIDS drugs
A South African girl born with the AIDS virus has kept her
infection suppressed for more than eight years after stop-
ping anti-HIV medicines more evidence that early treat-
ment can occasionally cause a long remission that, if it
lasts, would be a form of cure.
Her case was revealed Monday at an AIDS conference in
Paris, where researchers also gave encouraging results from
tests of shots every month or two instead of daily pills to
treat HIV.
Thats very promising to help people stay on treat-
ment, the U.S.s top AIDS scientist, Dr. Anthony Fauci,
said of the prospects for long-acting drugs.
Current treatments keep HIV under control but must be
taken lifelong. Only one person is thought to be cured
the so-called Berlin patient, a man who had a bone marrow
transplant in 2007 from a donor with natural resistance to
HIV.
But transplants are risky and impractical to try to cure the
millions already infected. So some researchers have been
aiming for the next best thing long-term remission,
when the immune system can control HIV without drugs
even if signs of the virus remain.
