A World of Change

By Louise Nicole R. Alcoba

Change is inevitable.

Oh come on?! Isnt that a lame old paraphrase?

Yes, definitely yes. In the midst of our busy world, change is stirring, a lot of us may seem to
notice, while others dont, several changes are evident while others are not. But, this phenomenon always
takes part in the physis; every single second, minute, hour, day, year and century.

Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change - this is the rhythm of living or simply
saying, We are living with change. However, change isnt always favouring the positive side, isnt
always embracing the advantageous phase rather it is nearing to become a threat. Could we still carry on
with this negativity along? Is it possible to stop? Is there any clear answer to our confusion?

It is only ourselves who can find the answer to our query. Moreover, the first move to go forward
and acquire what we want is to us the getting-to-know process; get to know what really is happening,
what actually change is and what is it doing to the world.

Now, it is time to wake our sleeping thoughts up and scrutinize change.

US the Human beings

From the dawn of time humans were moulded to govern over all the other creations in the
world. It has been an established fact that people have been here to care, caress and orderly use the
resources. But, as the couple of decades ran, there had been an alteration of these responsibilities and
jobs. And, light had almost vanished, that humans are almost blind to perceive the current doings of ours.

People like us have been more concerned with the US, only ourselves, how we would
survive and how we would last long. Transhumanism is whats actually occurring in this confusing state
of ours. Indulging into technology-based revolution to further enhance human intelligence; length of life,
physical and physiological capacities- this is the main point. Along with that, professionals and
practitioners have been altering genes, adding some DNA to another sample, playing with the traits of our
beings to gain our desired outcome. With this phenomenon, humans have been less focused on our exact
reason on existing. It isnt precise to say that we are being brought to the unnatural path which we are
destined to take; rather we are being bombarded with changes and disturbances. And so, this brings
further consequences to whats in front of us.

THEY the Animals and Plants

Flora and Fauna, the essential signs of life; rampant changes are occurring to them.. Ever since, a
big number of the different species of plants, trees, animals, microbes and etc. were brought to existence.
Their fates were to survive in a specific length of time, reproduce, grow and then leave in a natural
process. However, we are not in the early days anymore. And, extinction is what theyre facing right now
and not reproduction a total contradiction to what must have been taking place.
The average rate over the past 200 million years is 1-2 species per million species present per
year. The average duration of a species is 1-10 million years (based on the last 200 million years). There
have also been several episodes of mass extinction, when many taxa representing a wide array of life
forms have gone extinct in the same blink of geological time. In the modern era, due to human actions,
species and ecosystems are threatened with destruction to an extent rarely seen in Earth history. And, the
growing occurrence of mass extinction is one big dangerous change.

IT the Abiotic Component

It is not all the time that the livings are those to be the only ones subjected, to be taken
care of, to be considered. Moreover, the happenings in the human society, with the living can never be
separated from the nonliving. The backdrop of our subsistence is nature- created by God from then on. It
used to be a kingdom, a grand and bountiful place. But, what about now? Disastrous? Hell? The Dungeon
of doom? Harsh words to use. Simply, its not getting better, its getting worse; changing into something
unbearable.

Countless environmental phenomena have been here and there; drastic climate change,
flash floods, typhoons, deforestation, acid rain and etc. These changes strike the abiotic factor that has a
significant impact on various species. For example, the shrinking ice caps, caused by increased
temperatures in Polar Regions, have limited the hunting range of the polar bear, which hunts on sea ice
for seals. Moreover, gases, such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, are released into the atmosphere
by industries that burn fossil fuels, including coal and oil, resulting to formation of acid rain. These are all
outcomes of the human elements. Due to that, more of the surroundings are broken down by these
incidents, further changing, destructing the beauty of His creation. And these, are the changes which we
should unlikely embrace.

ALL- Everything stated is brought about by the word CHANGE. Well, thats already a part of
our lives, what else could we do with it? Many would say, we CANT do anything about it. But, what
would I say? NOPE, we can still MOVE, ANALYZE and CHOOSE, which type of alteration is to be
considered and which are to be set aside.
