BARTON
FAMILY “WINES
July 25, 2017
Dear Mr. Brooks,
can only hope, by the most fortuitous of circumstances, that you are reading this letter and
with equal luck that you are in the presence of a bottle of wine that was made by me at my
winery in Paso Robles. | will not bother you with explaining the many ways in which your music
and life have inspired me, with one exception. It’s the story behind the wine we named “The
Dance.”
My father and | started our winery here in Paso Robles in 1994. We worked side by side until
an unfortunate car accident took his life in the winter of 1998, just a mile from our home on the
winery. From that day forward my mother and I have worked tirelessly to finish the dream we
started together with my Dad, building the winery to what it is today.
In those early years we carried the pain, but never forgot our purpose. | learned the true
meaning of “The Dance” of life during those times. Your song often gave me my moments in
time back ~ memories that brought me closer to my father.
It has been 20 years this January since my father left us, and to this day I tear up when | hear
your song, Not because of what | lost, but for what | have now, and I'm glad I chose to not miss
the “Dance.”
Thank you for making his spirit live on for me each time | listen to your song. I'm sure I'm not
alone in a lasting gratitude for the words of “The Dance,” because for me, it’s everlasting.
