3.3.5 Reports
The Bore alignment application has multiple options for the creation
of a professional report. The setup of the report content is done via
the option pages of the application.
Every report can have a title, which appears on the top of the first
page. This title information appears on all reports (HTML and
internally) and will not be saved together with the measurement files.
1. In the main menu: Select Tools Options
The Options window appears:
4. If you like, you can enter a special text in the field in the lower
part of the dialog window (3). For example, you can enter your
company address or a comment that applies to all
measurements.
Caution!
L Graphics, which you are using for your company logo, will not be scaled in the HTML report. They will
be shown in their real size. If you want to use a graphic for a logo, which is too small or too big you
have to rescale it with dedicated software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop).
A line of text can be set up to appear at the top and bottom of every
page. This text appears on all reports and is not stored with each
individual measurement file.
1. In the main menu: Click on Tools Options...
The Options window appears:
Header & Here you can set up the text that is to appear at the top of
Footnote, top line every page on the left, in the center and on the right.
(2) Select one of the preconfigured options by clicking on the
arrow next to each combo box.
Header & Here you can set up the text that is to appear at the
Footnote, second bottom of every page on the left, in the center and on
line (3) the right. Select one of the preconfigured options by
clicking on the arrow next to each combo box.
You can adjust the type of report, the content and the order of the
information in the report. These settings apply to all reports and are
not stored with each individual measurement file.
1. In the main menu: Click on Tools Options...
The Options window appears:
3. In the Report (2) combo box, select the report type that you
would like to set up. To do so, click on the arrow next to the
box. At the moment only one type of report, Bore alignment
Report is available.
4. Activate the checkboxes (4) next to the information you would
like to include in the report.

When you activate this checkbox, the Options (5) button at the
bottom right of the menu is activated. Clicking on the button opens
the File Information Options menu. Here you can select the
information you would like to have printed.
Caution!
L Attention: If you use an existing name, the existing file is not overwritten. An additional file is created
with the same name.
3. Select the file type (2). Click on the little arrow beside this
combo box. Only files of the selected type are visible. For the
database the following types are available:
ALIGNMENT CENTER Boralign file
ALIGNMENT CENTER Boralign template
Info
L Depending on the data archive, there are different types available. Find the complete list in Tables and
technical information under Allowed file types per archive
4. Browse the folder to find the file you want to open. You can
expand multileveled directories by clicking the + icon.
5. Click the filename.
Short information for the file appears in a balloon tip directly in
the Open dialog.
Click Open.
Alternatively: Double click the filename.
L Not always all measurements performed at a given measurement position will be available for
averaging. Reason is that measurements performed after a move operation cannot be averaged with
measurements taken before move and vice versa.
L If you reuse an existing name for your measurement file, the existing file is not overwritten. An
additional file will be created instead.
The tool bar also presents the Points measured diagram, which
shows the layout of the measured points along the circumference of
the bore, i.e. the angular positions, at which the measurements were
taken.
These points are only shown for sensor measurements.
The color of the diagram reflects the overall quality of the selected
measurement.
The aim of the Analyze tool bar is to enable the user to view the raw
measurement results (i.e. points measured at a given measurement
position) and evaluate how well they reflect the curve of the
measured element.
In theory, a bored element should be perfectly circular. In practice in
most cases, measured elements prove to be a little deformed, which
gives an ellipse as a measurement result.
Sensor
In this mode the diagram represents
the measurement plane of the sensor.
It enables viewing the spread of
measurement points on the sensors
detector.
Line
In this mode the ellipse is shown as a
horizontal axis scaled with angles
ranging from -180 to 180. The vertical
axis in this diagram shows distance
from the ellipse.
This mode facilitates checking
absolute distances of consecutive
measured points from the curvature of
the calculated ellipse.
Circle XY, Phi These algorithms should be used when the sensor bracket
rods are short and rigid.
Ellipse XY, Phi
In such case both X and Y values are reliable, which
guaranteesd more precise results, because of greater
number of calculations parameters (X values are included).
Circle Y, Phi These algorithms should be used when the sensor bracket
rods are long and/or non-rigid.
Ellipse Y, Phi
In such cases, the sensor bracket rods may tend to sag as
the sensor is rotated towards the horizontal position,
which in turn will affect the accuracy measurement result.
This behavior is easy to detect by observing the standard
deviation values - SD values greater than 0.03 mm may
indicate that the measurement result is distorted.
In such situation a Y Phi method should be used - this will
ensure more reliable results as the distorted X parameter
will be discarded.
Laser trend tool bar displays the laser drift values in both horizontal
(red) and vertical (blue) directions on the same graph. It enables the
user to check laser drift occurrence during measurements.
Presence of significant laser drift means reduced measurement
accuracy. Laser drift may appear due to different external causes,
such air turbulence, heat or machine vibrations. Laser drift tends to
increase considerably when performing measurements over long
distances.
This tool bar is occupied by a table presenting all existing laser setups.
The following properties of laser setups are included in the table:
State: This field enables toggling laser setup active/inactive.
Mark the checkbox if you want measurements performed using
the laser setup to be included in result calculations.
Leave the box unmarked to exclude all measurements
performed using the laser setup from results.
At any time, there may be multiple active laser setups in an
overhaul job. All valid measurements performed within these
setups will be taken into account during result calculations.
The Static or Rotating property next to the state checkbox informs
whether the setup is static or rotating.
Laser setup: Name of the laser setup.
Count: Total number of measurements performed within the laser
setup.
This count includes valid as well as invalid measurements.
Date/Time: Date and time of the creation of the laser setup.
1. Select the element you would like to remove from the overhaul
by pointing it and pressing the left mouse button.
2. Do one of the following:
Select Edit Delete from the application menu.
Click the right button and choose Delete from the context
menu.
Press Delete.
3. The application will pop up a dialog asking for your
confirmation:
Choose Yes of you would like to proceed and delete the
selected element.
Choose No to cancel the action.
L Even when a measurement plane inside an element is selected, the properties of the element are still
available for edition.
L Remember that in order to be selected, an element must be wholly encompassed by the selection frame.
For that reason the selection frame must be appropriately expanded in vertical direction as well.
Simple bore
This is the basic measurement element
type.
Reference
Reference element represents a
measurement surface (horizontal or
vertical) -used e.g. for
straightness/flatness measurements.
Adjustment point
Adjustment point is an element at
which results are to be presented and
corrections made. It can be separate
or belong to a group. If an adjustment
point belongs to any group it will be
calculated from the line connecting
reference planes of the group. If an
adjustment point is located outside a
group it will be placed on the line
preset line.
Diaphragm
This element represents a turbine
diaphragm component.
Oil deflector
This element represents a turbine oil
deflector component.
Bearing
This element represents a bearing
component.
Long bore
Long bore represents a long tube or
pipe with two measurement planes.
The distance of the element is defined
as the distance of the first
measurement plane, which within the
element is always set to 0.
Complex bore 1
Complex bore 1 represents a long tube
or pipe with two measurement planes
and a result plane.
The distance of the element is defined
as the distance of the first
measurement plane, which within the
element is always set to 0. All other
distances are relative to this plane.
Complex bore 2
Complex bore 2 represents a long tube
or pipe with two measurement planes
and two adjustment planes.
The distance of the element is defined
as the distance of the first
measurement plane, which within the
element is always set to 0. All other
distances are relative to this plane.
Info
L If the element, which type is being changed has been measured all measurement data will be lost.
In such case, the application will display a warning message and ask for confirmation before changing
the elements type.
L can be set in the Options dialog. Automatic names are updated by the application when the schema is
changed or if elements are added to or removed from the overhaul.
If a name of an element is changed manually by the user, this particular element is excluded from the
automatic naming its name will not be changed by the application.
2. Put the desired distance into the Value field of the dialog,
which pops up.
Info
L Some elements, like for example complex bores, can have more than one measurement plane. Position
of each of this plane can be adjusted separately.
Full Half
Initially after the shim corrections are selected, there are no shimming
points present on the circumference of the bore. They must be added.
Jack corrections are used when the bore can be moved freely in both
horizontal and vertical directions.
In such case, the measurement results are inverted to facilitate proper
jack correction.
3.6.6.1 Machines
3.6.6.2 Subassemblies
The application allows the user to create an empty machine and set
up its components later:
1. Click the left mouse button anywhere in the overhaul view but
over an element to clear current element selection and select
the overhaul
2. Do one of the following:
Select Edit Add machine from the application menu.
Right-click anywhere in the overhaul view but over an
element and choose Add machine from the context menu.
Press Ctrl+G.
A machine with no elements assigned to it is created. You can
now adjust its properties manually. See the Modifying group
settings section below.
To set presets for a simple element, which contains only one plane
(e.g. simple bore or bearing), do the following:
1. Select the element by pointing it and pressing the left mouse
button.
2. Go to the Presets toolbar.
3. Enable presets by marking the Presets Enabled check box.
4. Enter the vertical preset value for the element in the V box and
the horizontal preset value for the element in the H box.
You can ignore the plane combo box as simple elements have
only one possible reference plane.
5. Enter the vertical preset value for the first reference plane in the
V box and the horizontal preset value in the H box.
6. Select the second reference plane from the Plane combo box in
the Last section of the toolbar.
7. Enter the vertical preset value for the second reference plane in
the V box and the horizontal preset value in the H box.
When presets are properly set up and enabled, they can be included
in the result calculations and thus influence required alignment
corrections of the overhaul.
