Software Installation
What you will Need (Recommended Minimum Specification)
Pentium 3 Processor
256 MB RAM
CD ROM
60 MB free hard disk space
SVGA Display
The Power Master Unit has been developed as a 32-bit Windows application.
As such it should present no problems running on most configurations of Windows NT 4,
Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Several third party software packages (such as CHIRPS) are included in the Power Master
Unit. Refer to their operating instructions/authoring company's to determine their levels of
Windows compatibility.
The performance and operation of the Power Master Unit Software will inevitably depend on
the way Windows has been set up on a given PC. There are a number of limitations when using
a single user application in a fully networked environment and where the operating system
controls the interaction between an application and the resources of the computer. Wherever
possible it is recommended that the Power Master Unit machine is set to single
application/single user mode with all local permissions, etc. set.
Operating recommendation
It is recommended that the Master Unit is operated using a mouse.
Portable computers should use an external mouse fitted to the mouse port.
The Power Master Unit can be operated from the keyboard if required.

Error Handling
Error handling facilities will depend on the meter compatibility. The screen below shows
A1700 PB******* -2 with Administration rights selected
Battery Fail Action - If the battery in the meter has failed and a supply failure also occurs, when
power is restored the time and date of the battery failure will be logged.
In this event the meter can do one of three things:
Continue on the tariff scheme, with a consequent time error equal to the duration of the supply
failure (Check Continue as normal).
Action End of Billing Reset, then continue as normal (Check Do billing reset then continue).
Action End of Billing Reset and freeze the tariff (Check Do billing reset then freeze tariff).
Reverse Run Configuration - This allows the meter to be configured to ignore reverse run events
for export meters.
Active Phases for Phase Failure Monitoring - For normal operating conditions,
all three phases are enabled. For certain configurations (e.g. 2 phases of a 3 phase 4 wire) only the
red and blue phases are activated. Leaving the yellow phase unchecked allows display messages
and load profile flags to be inhibited for the yellow phase.
Phase Fail - Phase fail threshold sets a phase failure threshold on A, B or C phase of the
meter as set in Active Phases above. The threshold is entered as a percentage of the
nominal phase voltage.
Example: If the phase supply voltage is 220V and the Voltage Fail Threshold is set at 90%, any
phase falling below 198V will register a phase failure.

C1 XML Files
Introduction
XML files can be created by the Power Master Unit for use with the Elster Metering ARR
Meridian system. It should be noted that this feature is only available for A1700 meters with the
following meter compatibility:
Standard A1700 (Vision) PB*******B/C
Multi-Utility A1700 (Vision) PB*******H
A separate XML file must be created for the Standard A1700 meter and the Multi-Utility Meter.
Make sure that only one compatibility box is checked at a time.
The Power Master Unit is restricted so that only the following scheme items will be downloaded
to form the XML file:
Scheme Id
Active Tariff
Deferred Tariff
Deferred Tariff setup
A1700 Active Display
A1700 Deferred Display
Billing Dates (Only applicable to billing reset during comms)
Appendix D
Note: The procedure above will import all data associated with the PPM scheme.
Specific items of the scheme can be selected for import individually by selecting
them from the List files of type dropdown list.
The scheme will be saved in the Old Master Unit Schemes folder. This can be moved to the
A1700 folder or to another directory.
Note: The format of some PPM scheme items e.g. time and date in the display are not
compatible with A1700 scheme items. These items may not convert sensibly to an A1700
scheme.
For good housekeeping, check the scheme after conversion paying particular attention to
displays A1700 meter options and A1700 meter UI options.
