CALL FOR PAPERS FOR AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2017 ISSUE
The Journal of Social Sciences (JSS)

Dear Authors,

The Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) welcomes the original research articles/review articles, case
studies, short communications for August/September 2017 issue as soon as possible. The Journal of
Social Sciences is a peer-reviewed internationally refereed journal published quarterly by the School
of Social Sciences, The University of Dodoma. JSS provides a venue for social scientists, policy makers,
and practitioners to articulate, ventilate, and argue key questions and concerns towards a better
understanding of social science disciplines and their impact on broad development issues. It provides
information and debate on subjects of interest to a local and international readership.

Guidelines for contributors

1. The JSS accepts original articles in English language only.
2. Types of contribution include full papers, book reviews and various views and/or ideas.
3. Submission of an article implies that the article is original and is not being considered for
publication elsewhere (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or
academic thesis). Upon acceptance of the article by the journal, the author(s) will be asked to

 transfer the copyright of the article to UDOM. This transfer will ensure the widest possible
dissemination of information.
4. The corresponding authors of a manuscript for JSS have the duty to ensure that all the named
authors have seen and approved the original and any revised version of the paper and are in
agreement with its content before it is submitted to the editorial office.
5. The maximum length of the manuscript should be 10,000 words including an abstract of 100 to
250 words.
6. Manuscripts should be printed or typewritten on A4 or US Letter bond paper, one side only,
leaving adequate margins of 1" (inch) on all sides to allow reviewers' remarks. The paper
including the references, tables and figures should be typed using MS-Word, Font Size 12 pts
(Times New Roman). Please double-space all materials, including notes and references.
Quotations of more than 40 words should be set off clearly, either by indenting the left-hand
margin or by using a smaller typeface. Use double quotation marks for direct quotations and
single quotation marks for quotations within quotations and for words or phrases used in a
special sense.
7. Number the pages consecutively with the first page containing Title, article type, author (s),
affiliation and full address for correspondence.
8. Abbreviations and Units: Only SI units should be used.
9. Figures: All photographs, graphs and diagrams should be referred to as a 'Figure' and they
should be numbered consecutively (1, 2, etc.). Multi-part figures ought to be labeled with
lower case letters (a, b, etc.). Please insert keys and scale bars directly in the figures. Relatively
small text and great variation in text sizes within figures should be avoided as figures are often
reduced in size. Figures may be sized to fit approximately within the column(s) of the journal.
Provide a detailed legend (without abbreviations) to each figure, refer to the figure in the text
and note its approximate location in the margin.
10. Tables: Each table should be numbered consecutively (1, 2, etc.). In tables, footnotes are
preferable to long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table. Such
explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should be placed immediately below
the table. Please provide a caption (without abbreviations) to each table, refer to the table in
the text and note its approximate location in the margin.
11. All publications cited in the text should be presented in a list of references following the text of
the manuscript. The manuscript should be carefully checked to ensure that the spelling of
authors names and dates are exactly the same in the text as in the reference list. All reference
should be listed in alphabetical order at the end of the article under the heading references.

e. Abbreviate the titles of periodicals mentioned in the list of
References; according to the International List of Periodical Title
Word Abbreviations.
f. In the case of publications in any language other than English, the original title is to be
retained. However, the titles of publications in non-Latin alphabets should be transliterated,
and a notation such as "(in Russian)" or "(in Greek, with English (abstract)" should be added.
g. Work accepted for publication but not yet published should be referred to as "in
press".
h. References concerning unpublished data and "personal communications" should not
be cited in the reference list but may be mentioned in the text.

Reviewing process

Each paper is reviewed by the editor and he/she has the responsibility for deciding whether a paper is
to be accepted, rejected or referred back to the author for amendment. The editor will be guided by
the advice of the Editorial Board and by other competent referees selected for their knowledge of
both the subject matter and the region under discussion in the paper.
