Vibro-RMDS contains mostly used functions to provide engineers with a collection of the most beneficial tools. A brief summary of the functions available in Vibro-RMDS comes in the following: FFT- Spectrum Plot Machines can vibrate at many different frequencies simultaneously. These frequencies can be related or unrelated to running speed and include both subsynchronous and supersynchronous frequencies. Since these frequencies are associated with the operating condition of the machine, the machinery diagnostician must have some way to determine the frequency content of a vibration signal in order to make an accurate diagnosis. FFT (Fast Fourier Transfer) is used to seize out the frequency contents of a vibration signal. Frequency detection toolbar is inserted in Vibro-RMDS by which you may choose your machine type and then by entering its technical specifications, study if there are machine related symptoms in the spectrum. Machine type analysis available in Vibro-RMDS software is as follows: Gearbox Frequency Analyzer Electric Motor Pulley-Belt Rolling Bearing Frequency Analyzer Sideband Analyzer Harmonic Analyzer PARONS ABPVibro is ready to integrate user designed frequency component analysis modules into Vibro-RMDS software upon customer's request. In addition to this, tables of maximum amplitude peaks and the corresponding frequencies is calculated and shown on the graph. It can 6 also save and load FFT plots from other time stamps to be used by the user for comparison and review. Software Comparison in frequency domain gives the | compressor running near 14000 RPM. user valuable data of each frequency Frequency spectrums during four months of component variation over time. As an operation of the compressors have been example, in one project 12 sensors were plotted in the following picture. installed on an oxygen high speed Frequency Spectrums during 4 months acd Time waveform is the fundamental graphic presentation of machinery dynamic data. It shows how a single parameter (most often displacement, velocity, or acceleration, but also any other dynamic measurement) from a single transducer changes on a very short time scale, typically a fraction of a second, This is in contrast to trend plots, which display the value of a slowly changing parameter over a much longer time scale, typically hours to months. Orbit Analysis Orbit analysis is a tool used to detect failures Hu A like rubs, unbalance, misalignment or oil whip in i Y journal bearing machines. Required are two . "channel simultaneous vibration measurement ai Jiliiililily, and two transducers placed at an angle of 90° ren to each other, plus a trigger signal from a * tachometer probe. Software Noncontact displacement transducers of eddy current type (proximity probes) are sensitive to the mechanical, electrical and magnetic properties of the target part. Target part material, geometry and surface roughness could induce signal disturbance. These transducers are not capable of distinguishing between actual vibration and shaft run out caused by mechanical and magnetic non- circularity of the shaft material which creates error in the measured vibration data from a proximity probe. In order to minimize the effect of this error, industry standards have been published which define maximum allowable limits of shaft run out in front of the probe surface for a reliable measurement. Slow roll waveform compensation is a function which provides the capability to record an unfiltered (direct) slow roll waveform of shaft in lower speeds. In fact, in lower speeds shaft vibration readina is not a iments t HH 1 1 function of unbalance and other vibratory symptom but a function of surface roundness of the shaft. So it is assumed that difference between the displacement signal at higher speeds and lower speeds can reflect net vibration signal. Slow roll waveform compensation will remove both sub synchronous and super synchronous frequencies, including surface defects, imperfections, scratches, etc. In one of hydro power plant projects, displacement transducers were installed in front of upper guide bearing of a 250 MW, 120 RPM Francis hydro turbine. As shown there are scratches on the surface of the shaft which create error in vibration reading. Slow roll compensation was applied to the shaft, orbit of the shaft before and after compensation which led to the removal of scratch signal is shown below.™= is Se eee baw aga a sae de a gs » | e mS x * : : 2 Software Ponca =| Waterfall plots are designed to display multiple spectra (FFT spectrum) versus time, during run up, run down or constant speed operation. Waterfall plots are 3D plots with time, frequency and amplitude axis. Waterfall plots are commonly used to examine how machine vibration changes with a change in an operating parameter. ¥ Trend Plots The trend plot is a rectangular plot on which the value of a measured parameter is plotted — - versus time. Trend plots can be used to |. display any kind of data versus time: | | Displacement, Velocity, Acceleration, gap voltage (radial or thrust position), rotor speed, ea a and process variables, such as pressure, gf 2 = = 2 2 temperature, flow, or power. Trend plots are used to detect changes in these important parameters. They are used for both long and short term monitoring of machinery in all types of service and are, typically, a kind of a steady state plot. FFT of vibration measured horizontal and vertical under the driver seat is depicted below. + aor ‘Reeaeion fied tm) g a ‘0 ~ Frequency 2) As it can be seen on frequency plots above there are high amplitudes at 30 Hz vibration while engine running on idle speed 15 Hz. So there seems to be high 2X amplitudes at idle speed. Research team suspected of a resonance near 30 Hz, so experimental and finite element modal analysis were performed to find any possible nearby natural frequencies. Analysis showed a translational resonance near 30 Hz. The corresponding mode shape is shown. In fact results indicated that 3rd natural frequency of the chassis was 30.4 Hz too near to 30Hz which is two times (2X) idle speed (15 Hz) and therefore caused disturbances to the passenger seats as a result of high vibrations due to exciting forces with frequencies near a natural frequency. To decrease vibration transmitted to body, changes should be applied to the chassis in a way to either increase or decrease mentioned natural frequency to either 25 Hz or 35 Hz, so that when engine working at idle (15 Hz), 2X component of the forcing function will not excite any natural frequencies of the system. m 1 Project ZANJAN POWER PLANT Flexible Rotor Balancing Of Gas Turbine Flexible rotor is defined as a rotor which exhibits considerable lateral deformation near or below its, maximum design speed, in other words flexible rotor is a rotor which passes or is operated near one or more of its lateral critical speeds. Flexible rotors cannot be just balanced in two planes and would need to be balanced in the vicinity of all critical speeds below the maximum design speed of the rotor. It is also often necessary to balance a flexible rotor at its operating speed. Therefore balancing flexible rotors needs special tools such as a vibration analyzer capable of phase and amplitude measurement. Moreover it should be able to plot amplitude vs. speed, phase vs. speed and amplitude vs. phase graphs also known as polar plot and Bode plot. In this study balancing of flexible power generating turbine is of interest. Turbo generator discussed here is a 162 MW gas turbine from Siemens Company called V94.2 in the company. Rotor unbalance may be defined as a situation in which the geometric center and the center of mass do not coincide. In reality, these centers never coincide exactly, but the goal of rotor balancing is to reduce the unbalance to the point that machine life is not negatively impacted by the residual unbalance. The balancing technician attempts to bring the center of mass and the geometric center to the same point or close enough to meet a predetermined balance standard. There will always be some residual unbalance. A rotor that operates at a Single Plane Balancing: For this test one aluminum disk was installed on the middle of the shaft, one accelerometer rotational speed below 70 percent of its critical speed is considered to be a rigid rotor.
