CL1106 Numerical Methods In Engineering [2 0 1 3]

Course Learning Outcome:


After successful completion of the course, student will be able to
apply statistical methods for data analysis
solve algebraic equations, numerical differentiation & integration problems
evaluate numerical solution for ordinary & partial differential equations
solve characteristic equations related to structural engineering
develop computer programmes for numerical methods

Syllabus:
Error analysis, types of errors, accuracy & precision, stability in numerical analysis, Curve fitting, Method
of least squares
Interpolation & extrapolation, general interpolation formulae, finite differences, difference operators,
differences of a polynomial, Numerical differentiation & integration
Solution of non linear algebraic and transcendental equations, Newton Raphson iterative method,
Numerical solutions of ordinary differential equations and partial differential equations using finite
difference technique, its applications to structural engineering problems
Solution of Eigen value problems, iterative & transformation methods
Applications of C Programming for problems of structural engineering

Self Study:
The self study contents will be declared at the commencement of semester. Around 10% of the questions will
be asked from self study contents.

Laboratory Work:
Laboratory work will be based on above syllabus with minimum 10 exercises to be incorporated.
