Rules for Behavior

1. All school rules will be upheld and strictly enforced. See student handbook.
2. Respect will be shown to the teacher, classmates, and to the classroom. There should be no
talking when someone else is talking. Property belonging to the class or to others should
also be respected as if it were your own.
3. Students are expected to be on time, and prepared by bringing required materials to class
each day. These materials include binder, paper, pencils, highlighters, homework,
assignments, etc. Successful students are prepared to learn. Students should be in their
seats with pencils sharpened, homework out, and warm-ups started.
4. There is no eating, drinking (except water), or chewing gum in the classroom.
5. Students are expected to be on task and focused on the assignment at hand. Participation is
essential in the classroom, and therefore cooperation with peers during group work and
class discussion is a must, in order to succeed.
6. All grooming items, personal notes or work for other classes will be taken up if they are out
during class. Any cell phone or electronic device that is confiscated will be returned
according to Opelika City School Board policy. Consider yourself warned!!!
7. A zero will be given to anyone talking during a test or quiz REGARDLESS of whether you
have turned in your paper or not.
8. I will be available for help most mornings at 7:30 or scheduled afternoons. You MUST get a
pass from me the day before you plan to receive extra help in the morning. If you do not get
a pass, you will not be allowed to receive extra help.

Raising your hand, not your voice:

1. In order to indicate that you need to get out of your seat in order to, gather
materials, sharpen a pencil, throw something away, etc, you must raise your hand and be
acknowledged to go do so.
2. If you are indicating that you need to leave the classroom in order to go to the bathroom,
office, nurse, etc., before raising your hand, you MUST have the appropriate pass filled out
and ready for my signature on your desk.
3. In order to participate in the class discussion, ask a question, or contribute to the lesson, be
sure to raise your hand and wait to be called upon. There is no such thing as a stupid
question, and there is nothing wrong about a wrong answer.

Discipline Actions Given by the Teacher

Students will be given at least one verbal warning but no more than two. If inappropriate
behavior continues, then the student will receive detention to be served from 7:30-8:00 in the
morning. A note will also be sent home to the parent/guardian and must be returned signed for
the student to serve his/her detention. If the student comes to serve his/her detention after
7:30 a.m. or without the detention notice signed by a parent/guardian then the detention will
not count. The student will then be assigned 2 days of detention before it becomes a referral. If
the student receives a second detention, the parents will be notified and, if needed, the student
will be sent to a counseling session in the guidance department. On the third offense, the
student will be written up as a referral.

Make-Up Work Policy

The student is responsible for getting all make-up material or making arrangements with the
teacher. If a student knows that he/she will be absent, make arrangements to gather the work to
be missed ahead of time. All make-up work must be turned in within one week after an
EXCUSED absence. After one week, all work that has not been turned in will be assigned zeros,
including tests. No tests will be made-up in class. You must schedule a time with me before or
after school.

Grading Policy
Grading will consist of the following:
Assignment: 10%
Quiz/Lab/Activity: 25%
Test/Project: 65%

Assignments: This will include daily work and homework. You must show all of your
work in daily work and homework, when necessary, in order to receive any credit.
Homework assignments will be collected at my discretion. Success in mathematics is
achieved through practice; therefore, it is very important that you do the homework that is
assigned daily. Homework (that requires work to be shown) with just answers will NOT receive
any credit. Homework will be graded on the completeness and effort of work on the assigned
problems. In addition, students should attempt EVERY problem. You are responsible for
making up homework assignments if you are absent. Mathematics is not a spectator
sport! Please ask questions when you do not understand. Participation is an essential part of
learning! Participation includes demonstrating ideas and concepts with others in class,
attendance, having all materials out and ready at the beginning of class, contributing to class
discussion and group work, and maintaining a classroom environment conducive to learning
(i.e. not disrupting class).
Quiz/Lab/Activity: Quizzes will be given periodically on the previous days lessons. You
must show all of your work. If you are absent the day material is taught or on the day a quiz
is given, it is your responsibility to set up a time to make it up. Similarly, if you are absent on
the day a lab/activity is assigned, it is your responsibility to make it up and turn it in within 1
week.
Test/ Project: Tests will be announced in advance. There will be review time in class when
available. If you are not present on the day of review, you are still responsible for
taking the test when you return to school. If you are not present on assigned test days, it
will be your responsibility to take a make-up test within 1 week. You must show all of your
work on tests when applicable. Projects will be assigned periodically throughout the year and
graded as a test grade.
