ISTQB Test Analyst exam sample questions

for practice Testing process

This is A demo on Sample Questions practice during the course
for ;
Chapter-Testing Process
Focus on: Test Analysis, design and Test progress monitoring
processes.

In ATA exam, most of the questions you will have scenario based.
Hence deep understanding on processes with examples is required for more practice.
You also need to revise the foundation syllabus before getting started for TA exam preparation. If
you have grip on that syllabus it will be easy for you.

billing system. They follow V-Model. Let us assume, now they have completed the SRS phase. The design
phase is started. As a Test Analyst you have been asked by your Test Manager to start working on the
project activities after SRS stage. Assume you have adopted one of the following as per the Advanced
Test Analyst [ATA] refined Testing process. Which option is the correct one.

A. Started Planning, monitoring, and control, Analysis simultaneously.

B. Started only Analysis, Design, Implementation simultaneously.
C. Started Execution, Evaluating exit criteria and reporting, Test closure activities simultaneously.
D. Started with monitoring, and control, Analysis simultaneously.

Answer: A.

Explanation:
As the Test Manager has given to you this project after requirement phase completion, you need to identify
the feasible activities to start with design phase as per the ATA Test process. This project is at the initial
stage of the design phase. We will have Planning, monitoring and control, Analysis, and Design activities
only at this stage of your work. Implementation can happen once the design is completed. Option A has
the refined process steps correctly in the same sequence as per ATA Test process and they have been
adopted simultaneously to execute. Hence A is the right answer.

7. In a Testing organization of one of the IT Services companies have lot of Test professionals worked on different
development models. The Testing practices head has got an urgent requirement. The requirement is; The
customer has the Agile development model under practice since 3 years. They have well established with several
improvements of these practices. During the customer call, the practice head mentioned that he has Test
Analysts who worked on Agile projects. The customer felt they do not have time to do orientation of their Agile
practices for a new comer. The Head says in the call; they can start the testing activities without any orientation.
There is a gap in between them. The following options denote one of them. Select the right one:

A. In reality; always there is a significant difference between how the lifecycle is described in the
books and what it is actually doing or being practiced by the teams. The Customers will have
tailoring on the practices. In this case the orientation is mandatory to any Test Analyst even he/she
has the work experience on that model.
B. The Agile practices followed by IT industry globally; it is same sequence without tailoring.
C. The Customer need not conduct any orientation due to they will not have budget defined for the contract
Testing professional orientation duration.
D. None of them are correct.

Answer: A.

Explanation:
With reference to the Development model process of ATA Test process, the tailoring is allowed for any model by
the IT organization. Without tailoring the models can not be adopted or implemented. Hence in this case the
customer will have a tailored process and the newly hired Test Analyst need to have orientation on their process.
In most of the organizations they allocate the schedule for contractors orientation. Here the customer has not
planned in their activities for the new comers orientation. Hence the right answer is A.

8. A Test Manager has been heavily loaded by the test organization. He has Test Analysts. As per his current work
status, he has to do lot of Test planning, Projects monitoring and control activities. He has one Test Analyst who has
several years of Software testing experience and also he is well aware of one of the existing projects. The Test Manager
felt to utilize him for Test planning purpose on that project. The Test Analyst raised objection as he has to complete the
Role based activities. The Manager advised him to handover those activities to a junior resource. It was followed the
same way by the Test Analyst. Now the junior resource has neither exposure nor experience for the Test Analyst
activities. He has done the below mistakes; He has not done properly the Test Analysis, design. Instead of that he wrote
the test cases as per his application knowledge and executed them for integration test phase. During System test entry
criteria, some of the integration bugs were identified and the build was rejected. What are the right processes they are
suppose to follow as per the ATA guidelines:

A. As per Test Analyst role; Determining the Right tests and test cases, Designing them and executing them
are the primary areas of concentration for the Test Analyst. The junior resource is not educated or not
trained or not monitored by the Test Analyst in these areas to perform well.
B. The Junior Resource has done well in place of Test Analyst. role, as per his background even though the proper
orientation was not given by the Test Analyst.
C. In most of the cases the Integration defects can be flowed to System Test areas.
D. None of them.
Answer: A.

Explanation:
As per the ATA guidelines, the role is very critical to follow the steps as mentioned in Option A. Even though due to
resource constraints or workload or time is very limited, the Test Analyst need to plan for giving training to the junior
resource to execute his activities correctly and need to monitor always. He has just handed over to the resource and not
trained and not monitored. Hence failure happened. Hence Option A is the correct answer.
