1.0 Task

Professional Education

Observe and keep a record of the condition and facilities available in the school.

1. Observe and record the types of services available in the library, lab facilities,
equipment for co-curricular activities and facilities available in the staffroom.
2. Observe and take note of the situation at the canteen and other areas at school
during recess.
3. Take note of the usage of ICT facilities.
2.0 Objectives

School based experience:

i. Gives students exposure to the teaching profession in school.


ii. Gives students exposure to the facilities available in school and the ability to
relate situations using critical thinking skills, creativity and innovation.

Observe the library facilities in the school that available for the student.

2. Analysis of the issue on focus:

2.1 Strengths:

Provided with daily day newspaper


The book was divided into fiction and non-fiction
Comfortable and conducive

The space was too small.


Not enough table and chairs.

3. Suggestions for Improvement:

Provide more space with tables and chairs for students to do activities in
resource center.
Add on more academic books.

2.1 Strengths:

The food prices are very affordable.


The canteen surrounding is in a clean condition
Provide a place to put the plate and glass that had been used

2.2 Weaknesses:

Not enough chair and desk


The food serve is not nutritious

3. Suggestions for Improvement:

Increase the number of desks and chairs at canteen so that the students are not
rushing at one time.

Serve more nutrient food.

Observe ICT facilities in Science Laboratory.

2. Analysis of the issue on focus:

2.1 Strengths:

i. Have teachers to guide the students.


ii. Accommodate the classroom of 20-25 students for one session.

2.2 Weaknesses:

i. The apparatus was too little.


ii. Dusty.
iii. Teacher does not stress on the application of ICT in classroom.
3. Suggestions for Improvement:

i. Invite professional computer literate to conduct a class or an activity on How to


Use and Implement ICT in Classroom for teachers and students.
ii. Vacuum the computer laboratory regularly.
iii. Include a slot on ICT class in the school timetable.

Essay

I was assigned to lead a School Based Experience (SBE) for one week
beginning on 1st April 2013 until 4th April 2013. This is first School Based Experience
(SBE) for me as a student teacher. For School Based Experience (SBE), I can choose
any primary school that I want to attend to lead this program and I have chosen the
Sekolah Kebangsaan Convent Father Barre which located in Kedah. I have chosen this
school as a place for me to go for this school because its located at my hometown and
near to my house. During SBE, I was not alone as trainees because there are 4 trainees
from other IPGMs undergo with me.

While performing SBE in school, I was asked to make observation of the school
organization and the facilities available at the school. My observation on school
organization, I found that the structure of organization starts with headmasters. The
headmaster is assisted by senior assistant teachers. Every person in the school
organization has a job and their own role. Headmistress job is as a supervisor and
regulator policies and objectives of the school which founded and coordinated policies
and objectives from the Ministry of Education and also the State Education. Besides
that, she also need to determine the school goals, plan and implement teaching and
learning curriculum, lesson plans, timetables and so on. The duty of senior assistant
academic is to assist teachers in curriculum management, daily administration and
others.
On my first day of SBE, I have observed the library. In the school library, the
school administration provided daily day newspaper in various languages. Besides that,
there are also many books that divided into new version. The book that provided for the
students was very useful. However, there are also some shortcomings in the library
which is space in the library are very small and cramped and not enough tables and
chairs. One suggestion to improve the school library is to provide a space with chairs
and tables sufficient to enable the students can do their work while in the library. Other
facilities are available in the school is canteen. One of the benefits of the availability of
canteen is that it can provide food to school children. In addition, the price of food
offered is also very affordable. The area around the canteen is very clean. Canteen
management also provides a place for the students to put the glasses and plates which
have their use. However, the number of tables and chairs was not enough for the
students to enjoy their food and food sold also unhealthy. Therefore, in my opinion, the
canteen management should increase the number of tables and chairs so that students
do not rush to get somewhere and add nutritious meals to students. The staffroom are
quite small and there are alot of teachers who do not have table to sit and do not have
an appearing condition and not conducive. The staffroom should be well organized so
the teachers will be comfortable to do their works. In my opinion, add on more tables
and chairs for teachers to do their works. Besides that, the teachers also can decorate
their own staffroom to look more attractive. I have also observed the use of ICT in
science laboratory. In the laboratory, there are teachers who are observing the gestures
of the students. Moreover, the laboratory can only accommodate 30 to 40 students for a
session. Equipment in the laboratory is also inadequate and dusty.

In conclusion, I feel very happy to be given the opportunity to perform SBE.


Besides that, I also felt like this experience with my huddle with teachers and pupils of
the school.
