PRE-SCHOOL/PRE-TWINKLE STEPS

1. Parent Participation

Let parents attend an individual lesson as well as an already functioning group class to familiarize
them with the dynamics.

Offer them reading material.

Stress the importance of their involvement in their childs learning process (being present at the
individual lessons as well as group classes, ensuring that child listens to DVDs and practises).

In some cases, parents are taught the violin before their kids start.

Ensuring good stance and posture

3. Starting with bow hand

3.1 Do preparatory exercises for strength, coordination and dissociation.


3.1.1 Hands behind back, on instruction show bow/violin hand
3.1.2 Learn names of left and right fingers
3.1.3 Add different finger combinations to exercise 3.1.1
3.1.4 Tug-of-war with fingers. Goggles.

3.2 Bow hold

3.2.1 Slide-thumb-flip-baby finger


3.2.2 Hold bow vertically. Move bow, follow movement with eyes
3.2.3 Touch nut/point of bow with different fingers
3.2.4 Touch different parts of body with nut/point of bow.
3.2.5 Drwings: face, house, name etc
3.2.6 Bowing on shoulder, using Variation rhythms

3.3 Violin position

3.3.1 Left arm on r.shoulder, right arm over tummy.


3.3.2 Let child follow violin with eyes
3.3.3 Insert violin over left ear. Let child say no with head.
3.3.4 Crane exercise
3.3.5 Touch nose with outside of LH/left pinky
3.3.6 Swing fairy/dwarf
3.3.7 Play trampoline on strings (on Variation rhythms)
