Mining Logic in MSIP

Two Types:

Priority Logic (Mine To)

Proportional Logic
Sample Block for Discussion
Not just material percents
We also must consider

TOPO%
Partial%

We will assume the following:

TOPO% = 100%
Partial% = 50%
The most important thing
A Multiple Ore Percent model knows the percentage of
each block that exists within each zone, and depending
on coding will know the order of deposition, but DOES
NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHERE WITHIN THE BLOCK THE
MATERIAL EXISTS!

This is important to remember as we discuss the logic

for how MSIP cuts mine through blocks.
Proportional Logic
Proportional Logic

Partials are proportionally distributed to

each zone in the test block, until partials
are exhausted.
Percent Mined = Percent Available * Partial
Percent
Using proportional logic...
with the following considerations:
Partial%=50, TOPO%=100

Material Type Percent Mined

Waste 40 22*50% = 11%
Seam 40 23*50% = 11.5%
Waste 50 32*50% = 16%
Seam 50 20*50% = 10%
Waste 60 3 * 50% = 1.5%
Priority Logic

Priority is set in order of deposition

1. Seam 40 Heading Waste

2. Seam 40 Coal
3. Seam 50 Heading Waste
4. Seam 50 Coal
5. Seam 60 Heading Waste (a.k.a. Seam 50
Footwall Waste)
If we mine using priority logic

We mine in priority order

until Partial% is exhausted

until Mine To constraint is hit
If we mine using priority logic
With MineTo=Seam40

50% partial available

Available material:
Seam 40 Heading Waste = 22%
Seam 40 Coal = 23%
All other material unavailable due to Mine To restriction

Material Type Percent Mined Partial Remaining

Waste 40 22% 50-22 = 28%
Seam 40 23% 28-23 = 5%
Waste 50 0% n/a
Seam 50 0% n/a
Waste 60 0% n/a
If we mine using priority logic

With MineTo=Bottom Seam

50% partial available

Available material:
All material in block
If we mine using priority logic
with MineTo=Bottom Seam
Partial%=50

Material Type Percent Mined Partial Remaining

Waste 40 22% 50-22 = 28%
Seam 40 23% 28-23 = 5%
Waste 50 5% (32%) 5% - 5% = 0%
Seam 50 0% (20%) 0%
Waste 60 0% (3%) 0%
Partials Mapping in MSIP
Partials Mapping

Keeps track of the percentage of each block

that has already been mined
Allows us to pick up material left behind by
an initial cut
Partials Mapping - Example
Starting with the result of the Priority Logic
mineto:40 example:
Partials Mapping - Example
If we take a second cut ...
with MineTo=Seam 50
Cut Partial%= 55%
Pre-Mapped Partial%= 45%
Red = Unavailable due to MineTo restriction

Material Type Percent Mined Partial Remaining

Waste 40 22% 45-22 = 23%
Seam 40 23% 23-23 = 0%
Waste 50 32% 55-32 = 23%
Seam 50 20% 23-20 = 3%
Waste 60 0% n/a
Some Tips
Checker Cut

Will ensure that no material is

left behind
Some Tips
Block Model Filtering

Can be utilitized to get better feel for where to

draw cut boundaries
Live demonstration
Some Tips
Cut Edges at Endwall

If cut endwalls barely cross into neighboring

blocks, waste can be overestimated
Follow block boundaries when possible.

Tip: It can be helpful to

label model blocks with
material percents when
digitizing cuts.
Some Tips
Cut Edges at Hanging Wall and Footwall

At HW and FW, we are constrained by either

TOPO%, previous cuts, or MineTo constraint
Oversizing cuts at HW/FW can ensure all material
is properly captured inside cuts

Tip: Oversize cuts at

HW/FW to ensure all
material is captured
Two IP Configurations

Multiple Multiple
Ore Percent Material
Percent
Two IP Configurations
Multiple Material Percent

Met% and Ox% shares same seam item

Separate met/ox summaries in report
Met and Ox zones both count toward accumulative grade
items
Not supported by MineSight Atlas

Multiple Ore Percent

Requires different code item for Ox%

Recommended configuration
Met and Ox zones treated as separate bins for grade
accumulation
From MMP to MOP:
Add Ox Seam Code Items to 3DBM
Project File Editor

Populate Seam Codes with User Calc

For Example: Ox Seam Code = SeamX + 900
P61201.dat or cp-modelcalctool.pyz

Adjust Area Configuration

Replace SEAMX with the Ox Seam code items

Adjust Material Set Configuration

Replace Ox zone codes to reflect new seam numbering scheme
